I saw her a number of times when she danced with the Royal Ballet in London. Her technique was rock solid, she always delivered. Her musicality and shear artistic beauty was breathtaking. When she stepped on stage, you could feel the audience hold its breath. You couldn’t take your eyes off her for a moment.
I have been watching ballet since I was thirteen years old. I am now seventy-five. No one in that time is as exquisite as this dancer. She will go down in ballet history as one of the greatest dancers of all time.
Nessuna come lei.
I take the liberty of saying, although I am not an expert, that of all of them, Guillem is the one that gives me goosebumps the most, due to its lightness, agility, and artistic expression. In the black swan also is sublime. none is like her. Too bad I never saw her live.
This is from the June-July 1999 run of Nureyev's Swan Lake in Paris. Sylvie danced 4 performances with Nicolas: 18, 24, 29 June and 2 July. The performance on 2 July was the last time I saw Sylvie in this role. Needless to say, it was unforgettable! Nicolas was a fantastic, sensual dancer: perfect partner for Sylvie. Once you have seen Sylvie in a given role, this sets the standart and all the other ballerinas seem ordinary in comparison. As I said to Sylvie once: 'You are divine. All the other ballerinas are mortals.'
I couldn’t agree with you more. She is just on another planet another galaxy another stratosphere she is just perfection beyond no other dancer I have seen no other dancer except Natalia, but Sylvia just her lines are impeccable like she is so incredibly strong and disciplined. She is the best ballerina I’ve ever seen especially performed Swan Lake

@@janel342 No. It’s cameras. You can hear them at the 1 minute mark and every time she holds a position especially, the camera shutters start going off.
I think it is the dress rehearsal, so there are usually press photographers clicking away, it is distracting, but is permitted for the sake of publicity/archives.
Enfin, bref…
Has anyone notice that her pointe shoes are hold in place with transparent elastics and not with ribbons? Keep in mind that this is not the most safe way to keep pointe shoes in their place.
@@theGoodchoice4U Elastics tend to become loose after a while. Other ballerinas would have made sure that the shoes were tied tightly on their feet but Sylvie never had such kind of insecurities and she went on to perform on stage with elastics on her shoes.
