- Rachel's car has been giving her trouble lately, so she pulls into her local mechanic to diagnose the problem. The mechanic gives her an extremely expensive quote, a number so high she cannot afford to get it fixed. Another customer overhears Rachel speaking with the mechanic and, seeing that the mechanic is trying to scam poor Rachel, she decides to intervene.

happens all the time. I remember taking a reporter with me to one such mechanic with another mechanic with me. It made a great story and the guy ended up going bust.
Many years ago, I took my car into the dealership to have a tail light replaced. The Service Dept told me it was more than a light - there was an internal part that needed replacing which cost $50 plus labor. This was 1972 so that was a lot of money. What he didn’t seem to know was that my dad was the used car sales manager there. I looked for my dad, told him what service said, and he got royally pissed off. Apparently the part service wanted to replace didn’t even exist. The tail light was replaced and so was the service guy - he got fired.
Tried to play her and ended up getting played himself, classic.
I’m glad that the other woman came to Rachel’s rescue.

Remember in real life, there are always going to be some mechanic shops that will treat u with respect and not scam you. Other shops would scam you to try to get alot of money
This is why I do my own work to mine and my wife's cars. Alot less likely we'll get taken advantage of and I atleast know the full job will get done. Easier and cheaper as well

My dad taught me how to work on cars and to realize when something is wrong to check to make sure the people who work on my car did the job right I once had a argument with a repair shop they were to change my oil and clean the motor cause the car been sitting for for a while I paid over two hundred dollars didn’t even get the car home n it stopped my brothers n I checked under the hood n under the car they didn’t do anything when i called n complain they wanted to charge me more money I told them forget it we fixed it ourselves

This is what happened with my uncle, the mechanic did the same thing to my uncle but unfortunately my uncle felt for it and actually paid for everything then later he found out he was scammed.

Mechanics like this guy disgrace their job by scamming people, luckily this black female was available to witness firsthand. This bastard will be going to jail for this!!!
I had a mechanic try to tell me I needed a head gasket replaced but little did he know I do know something about cars and I argued with him and went somewhere else and all I needed was just as I thought it was the overflow reservoir cap needed to be replaced it wasn't holding pressure. So his $1200 quote cost me $50 for the cap flush and fresh coolant and no labor charges.

My dad taught me to always take a man preferably one who nows about cars with me to the mechanic shop to have car worked on, and always ask around for price quotes to get a idea about the price range. Most mechanic shops will scan women who knows nothing about cars. Shame on that mechanic! Scammers love when women pull there cars in for service, easy money. And when a part is being replaced, ask for old part taken off to be replaced.

My Grandfather ran a transmission shoppe in the 50's & 60's. He had a lady come in one time who thought she needed a new transmission, but what she really needed was fluid added which he did and just charged her for which was about a Buck and a half. She was real happy for that.

They were all lies. If she had a bad transmission, she would have been hearing clunking noises when driving and shifting gears. If the drive shaft was bad, you wouldn't even be able to drive the car. It was a scam.
And if the timing chain was broken, the engine wouldn't even run.
There are mechanics just like him in real life. They scam or rip off people, that's why I try to find a reliable mechanic or take it to a commercial car dealership like Toyota for my Camry.

I am a female, I took my truck in and got an estimate for 4k. I fee days later my brother brought same truck in and got an estimate of 350.00 dollars. Then we confronted them with both estimates. And took my truck to a different mechanic who was and still is honest and excellent.
