I was shocked to hear about his suicide, the next school day, cuz i never thought women in a family can be such an monster, that guy was literally living away from his parents for studies, n this is what he paid. It is time we hindus shun the common interpretation of shivling as spread by western indologists. True, hindus try to highlight the metaphor of Shiva and Shakti in the western interpretation. But all this is not necessary if we only refer to the authority of Shaiva texts. Shaiva Siddhanta depicts Shiva the Brahman as Pashupati , lit lord of Pashus lit cows - cows stand for the atmans tied in Paasha lit the snare of Maaya or illusion . These Pashus rid of snare, run and flock around Pashupati looking up to Him for final moksha. This is what is symbolically depicted in a shivling, the bottom circular plate represents the atmans looking upto the central image depicting Shiva. The particular shape symbolises the formlessness of Brahman, like we use the infinity symbol in mathematics. It is said that once Brahma and Vishnu when debating who is greater of the two, , were confronted by Shiva in the form of a boundless tower of Jyoti with no reachable beginning or end the Linga form. This is the beauty of Hinduism, its ability to beautifully present the most abstract concepts in a very powerful manner. Infact there is a famous temple in Tamilnadu by name Aavudiyiar Kovil where shiv Puran was written by Manikka Vaachagar one of the greatest Tamil shaiva Saint. In this temple, the shivling has only the bottom circular plate, and no central image. His devotees are left to see Pashupati as formless or in any desired form such as Dhskshinamurti , Nataraja etc as they desire. The word Aavudiyiar means Pashupati in Tamil I'm happy to share my this learning with all hindu friends and lovers of Hinduism.

If is is just a symbol it could be a Diamond shape right? but it's not and the shape is very specific and matches Phallus. It's symbol of Purusha which is Universal consciousness. In our tradition (all Dharshana shastras) Consciousness is given masculine gender and Prakriti (ever changing manifestation) is given a feminine gender. Shiv Linga is the symbol of the formless infinite in which all finite forms in time and space ultimately merge and disappear . It’s more aptly called Jyotirlinga, the source and destination of infinite light which is self effulgent.

It is time we hindus shun the common interpretation of shivling as spread by western indologists. True, hindus try to highlight the metaphor of Shiva and Shakti in the western interpretation. But all this is not necessary if we only refer to the authority of Shaiva texts. Shaiva Siddhanta depicts Shiva the Brahman as Pashupati , lit lord of Pashus lit cows - cows stand for the atmans tied in Paasha lit the snare of Maaya or illusion . These Pashus rid of snare, run and flock around Pashupati looking up to Him for final moksha. This is what is symbolically depicted in a shivling, the bottom circular plate represents the atmans looking upto the central image depicting Shiva. The particular shape symbolises the formlessness of Brahman, like we use the infinity symbol in mathematics. It is said that once Brahma and Vishnu when debating who is greater of the two, , were confronted by Shiva in the form of a boundless tower of Jyoti with no reachable beginning or end the Linga form. This is the beauty of Hinduism, its ability to beautifully present the most abstract concepts in a very powerful manner.
Infact there is a famous temple in Tamilnadu by name Aavudiyiar Kovil where shiv Puran was written by Manikka Vaachagar one of the greatest Tamil shaiva Saint. In this temple, the shivling has only the bottom circular plate, and no central image. His devotees are left to see Pashupati as formless or in any desired form such as Dhskshinamurti , Nataraja etc as they desire. The word Aavudiyiar means Pashupati in Tamil

Shefaliji and Madhuji typify millions of Hindu women in this country who anchor and nourish beautiful families, and are widely respected. This itself disproves the fake feminists' hypothesis that Hindu women are oppressed. This is not to say the society is totally free of all oppression of women, nor are the so called developed western society. But certainly , neither the culture not religious faiths of hindus can be cited as reason, unlike the case with abrahamic religions.
It is unfortunate that the new generation of women lost in global pop culture and bereft of roots following migration and break up of joint families , have lost sense of their inherent status as equals and complementary in hindu men's material and spiritual life. Senseless pursuit of sheer equality as the solution proposed by western feminists, may assuage the individual ego; but in the long run it will result in a dysfunctional society and hence harm everyone alike, as some western nations are already realising. .
Sanatan dharma then shows the way by extolling the Shiva Shakti confluence as the source of all universe. Every hindu deity has associated Shakti as consort, given equal importance. This principle is easy for Hindus to understand and should be the basis to reform any aberration in parts of our society. Not the senseless competitive one up- manship so vulgarly depicted in many of the TV serials in the name of woman power and in media debates. Much appreciate Shefaliji and Madhuji. As for Madhuji, she changed track some years ago after going some way in the feminists path - that speaks volumes for her seeking truth in preference to adulation.
Why are these kind of conclaves not held more often ?

Shiv Linga is not a penis or phales. Linga means Symbol (unique Indentification). Penis in sanskrit is called Purush Linga not Linga. Purush means man and Linga means main point.
Devine Sky ... You are right, but in the tantrik tradition we do show Union of Shiva-Shakti as a Linga standing atop a Yoni. It is only when the Absolute Transcendental works hand in glove with its immanent Shakti that the dance of creation happens. So both explanations are right.
Dude Please! Don't bring Pseudo science and Abrahamic morality into our culture. Linga means symbol I agree, but symbol of what? If is is just a symbol it could be a Diamond shape right? but it's not and the shape is very specific and matches Phallus. It's symbol of Purusha which is Universal consciousness. In our tradition (all Dharshana shastras) Consciousness is given masculine gender and Prakriti (ever changing manifestation) is given a feminine gender. Hence Shiva Linga is a representation of both masculine and feminine genders. That is Purusha & Prakriti or Shiva & Shakti. Let me tell you, most of us who understand this are not ashamed of Shiva Linga being a phallic symbol but are very proud of it because with one symbol we explain what universe is.
