how do I update the system when I change the cassette? how the system knows which one is installed? and do I need to do adjustments to the rear derailleur? and how?
Hi Javier, thanks for the question. If you are using synchronised shifting then you will need to let the system know the new cassette size in the e-tube app. If you don't use this then you don't need to tell the bike it is a different cassette, as the distance between the sprockets is the same regardless of cassette size. In terms of mechanical changes, you will need to adjust the b-screw and possibly need to adjust the length of the chain. If you use a Garmin head unit and want to know which gear you are in then you will also need to change the cassette details in your Garmin device. Hope this helps.
Ah I see, I’m afraid not no. The new shifters communicate with the RD via Bluetooth. The old 11-speed ones did it via cable. They simply aren’t going to be compatible I’m afraid.
Yep, I believe the third one is spare when using the disc break shifters, but is used for the rim brake shifters. Still not compatible between 11-speed components and 12 speed components (except for satellite shifters).
Campi has been doing a 13 speed for almost a year now. Shimano never seems to ever catch up lol and the groupset is heavier than their old stuff, what a rip
Hi Marco, thanks for the feedback on the groupset. They do often seem to be slow on the uptake in the race to be first out with new things don't they. Clearly this new groupset isn't for everyone, and if getting the biggest number of sprockets on the back wheel is appealing then you're right, Campagnolos excellent 1x, mechanical, Ekaar groupset is a great choice. I haven't weighed the two Ultra Di2 groupsets side by side, but believe the new one is only 8g heavier, which I think a lot of people will see as a reasonable sacrifice for the improvements beyond simply an extra sprocket. If you could have a Wishlist for any of the main brands what would you be looking for in the next groundbreaking groupset?
The new 12 speed chain won’t work properly with the 11-speed chainrings. You may be able to bodge it, but you don’t want to spend all that money on a 12 speed groupset for it to not work perfectly.
I installed the new 12-speed group set in September 2022 and works great. However I recently discovered that it is not possible to update shifters through the spartphone app. any longer! A major step back of Shimano, against user friendly components!🤔☹
Yep, you are sort of right - to update shifters they need to be connected to another item, such as the RD, which will then allow you to update the shifters via your phone. An annoying aspect for sure, but not a deal breaker - still a fantastic bit of kit.
Small detail: the box is priced 208€ in Europe! Sure, great product, customer service is crap!!! Last, official Shimano representative replied to me not to bother, it is not a necessary update!! Really?
@@dimitriosnservis3875 I've been in the workshop today testing this out. The information from Shimano suggests that you simply need to connect the shifter to (they say the RD) and you should be able to update it. This obviously isn't going to work as their is only one port on the RD and without it being connected to the battery it cuts out. I tried by connecting using a cable to connect directly with the spare port on the battery, but this still failed to update. I will investigate further and try and get more information from Shimano for you as, needing the junction box to connect to the laptop doesn't seem like a sensible solution going forward.
Great overview! Can't wait for my order to go through in 2025...
We still have two full groupsets available if you are in the UK.
@@wecycle384 Thanks! But I'm looking for a whole new bike, and that's my challenge.
Good luck - and stay calm, the right bike will arrive eventually!
Really good presented, as always 👌💯
Great video! Thanks for making
Glad you enjoyed it James. Let us know if there is anything else you would like us to cover in upcoming videos.
Thanks for that
Can I put a Sram 12 speed road cassette with the R9200 groupset? for the 10-33 cassette range...
Hi Anthony, haven't tried this, but it is very unlikely to work well due to the different chain requirements.
hi, how many wires does it need to connect the rd to fd to battery? is it the ew-sd-300 I??
Hi. Just one cable from RD to battery, and then a second cable from FD to battery.
And yes. EW Sd300 wire
thank you for your reply , appreciate it, Is it external or internal ew-sd300??

Is the sti 8070 dia compatible with the new dowels?
Hi Alexandre, I’m not sure what you are asking? What do you mean by ‘dowels’ and ‘dia’?
@@wecycle384 Can the R8070 Ultragra STI be used with the new R8100 group?

does it come with a battery charger
Yes, a USB cable that connects the rear derailleur.
So why is it 500 grams heavier than the 11 spd?
I don't think it is 500g heavier. Think the difference is only about 10 or 11g. I may be wrong, so happy to be corrected if you have the numbers.

@@wecycle384 I think sram and campi lead the market on groupsets, so I would easily choose a wireless sram groupset 👍
12 speed cassette is ridiculous, 13 is just laughable! It's just one-upmanship!
