I really love using OpenSCAD and am thrilled that you posted this video. While certainly not as intuitive as SketchUp, Fusion 360 or FreeCAD, there is some beauty about coding these models this way and watching it unfold before your eyes. I also enjoy calculating with RPN & RPL, which also allows you to watch computational solutions unfold step by step. Certainly there are faster ways to accomplish this, but to my eyes this is so elegant in OpenSCAD. Thank you for posting this video!

Love openscad, and especially the hull() transformation that can give very sleek designs.

I find the greatest value in CAD, CAM, CAE... software in general and am shocked at how little these are viewed in comparison to other maker vidy's as to me these are the tools/knowledge necessary for all the others to exist.

@@Juiceboxmakes Yes, but rewarding and some of us still consider it fun ; )

@Kenneth Hicks oh I love freecad. It's a highly addicting thing in my mind. It's a shame more people don't watch these videos. You're correct

And of course you can animate and see if everything works before printing. Vive OpenSCAD ! And if you want even niftier things there is the wonderful BOSL2 library which grows in features all the time. The only really things missing is a constraint system integrated in the language as in SolveSpace. Kudos for Caleb to encourage this series of comparisons.

Great vdeo, this software seems quite nice to use. I draw many things like this in Mathematica, and it is quite similar workflow. I tried some other plotters and blender api and some other apis, and they were all very complicated and unfrriendly to use and you hat to write a ton of strange code, to do the most basic things. This one is actually very clean and straight to the point!

ua-cam.com/video/WKx0iBNX5V0/v-deo.html here there is an introduction to OpenSCAD by its main developer, Marius Kintel. It is quite old, but still good to learn the basics.

Hey Caleb! Chris here from Sienci. I've got many years of experience in SolidWorks and more recently Onshape and would be more than happy to help with a video on that if you'd like. Is it best to follow up with you through email?
