In Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, we had a very large barrel making industry for our grain flour mills in Minneapolis from the 1860 to the early 1900s. Around 1900, barrels for wheat flour and grain were discontinued in exchange for flour sack cloths. Many of the Norwegian immigrants came to Minneapolis to work in the flour mills at Saint Anthony Falls, in Minneapolis. I would imagine that some of our barrel makers came from Norway.
