I got to see Tower Bridge being raised and lowered twice when I was in London two years ago. Once from near the HMS Belfast, and once from the tour on the walkways above.
So that's the bloody thing that blocked my view of the HMS Belfast on the Thames Clipper a couple months ago then. I do wonder why it decided to stop right next to it as if in some way showing off how big it is or something.
Can't wait for 8 minutes? Imagine waiting to cross the runway at Gibraltar airport when 2 planes come in, the whole peninsulas' traffic stops for at least half an hour
Difference mate. London’s a large busy metropolis whereas Gibraltar’s a small nation with only 34,000 living there. People don’t have the time to be waiting in London.
The most interesting sighting in London, the Tower of London, is very close by. The bridge tour, access to the working parts, is very interesting and impressive as well but I missed watching the bridge opening for a ship. This video redeemed that missed event. Thanks
I love s bridge architecture and design, any bridge has their personality, it gives me spiritual, intellectual and educational history distinction from others. It is best way to connect and bridge the gap between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.🤗
And ...there are huge 'counterweights' below the road sections which swing down into enormous spaces specifically designed for them underneath... There have been videos presented by - for example - Tony Robinson, from beneath the bridge, explaining exactly how the counterweights work. (There are 'niches' within which persons qualified to be there, can safely stand to watch the counterweights to the lifting roads, being moved into and out of position, though, _I_ _wouldn't_ want to stand there, even _if_ I was allowed to!!)
This video should have more views it was insane and very interesting also if you happen to scroll down then i hope you have a really really nice nice day
It's likely she doesn't sail up as far as the other bridges, but moors up somewhere between the two... I'd be more likely to wonder what her turning circle's like, or is there an inlet somewhere upstream where a big cruise ship like her can turn to come back downstream towards the estuary and North Sea... Plus, exactly how she (and other ships around her size) manoeuvres around the hazardous wreck of the 'SS Richard Montgomery' in the Thames estuary, safely...?😮
That thing is tiny, but more expensive than a disney cruise :O i went on that ship and it was nothing compared to disney cruises. What a waste of money.
We've got two bascule bridges in Poole. I never get tired of watching them raise and lower.

What an excellent video and a wonderful teaching tool
Wow, fantastic engineering !

Wow.
Xjkaskksisksosos
London’s got busier roads
The problem is not 8 minutes. Its getting stuck at the tail of the traffic light which takes long time to clear. Like the snake effect.

Oh wow I was down by HMS Belfast watching it all happen, I had no idea you did it! Impressive.
❤️❤️my all time favourite Tower bridge🥰

That bloke in charge of the bridge deserves legendary status, Or at least an OBE
Massive? That’s a rather Tiny cruise ship... compared to most.
SalPitera Studios That’s what I thought too. Most cruise ships are WAY larger than that one and more expensive.
True but the London river is not that big compared to rivers where bigger ships go to so to them it is massive
crazy puppets I get that. Still doesn’t make the ship massive. Title was clickbait.
SalPitera Studios CLICKBAIT
Massive in the perspective of how much they need to open the bridge. So not clickbait
What happened next WILL surprise you!
Bakeey Lol
Always a good video! Keep it up
No, please let it back down again!

Wow - that's cool! How about they try it with the Harmony of the Seas next?
It would sure be a great ride, if it were remotely possible.
Now that is something I would LOVE to do!
Great video Londonist!
Great, nice video..thank you...
Informative video. Thank you Author.
Good, now I know a lot now.

The few days that I was in London I saw it open!
That is impressive.
Whoa....how deep is the Thames?!!
You really should make these videos longer or give us extended ones
what's the difference between a longer video, and an extended one?
Always good vedio
Oh and I forgot Merry Christmas love to come up to London soon to see you it was like last Christmas the last time I saw you from Archie your nephew
Amazing
I jumped off tower bridge last weekend ... the video is on our channel
I wonder how exactly the bascules are lifted?
It used to be steam engines, now it's hydraulic motors with electric pumps.

So filmed in July and uploaded in November 2017???
I didn't read all the comments but did anyone ask how much the cruise cost?
How does it get past london bridge? isnt that one too low
London Bridge is up stream of HMS Belfast, so it does need to!
im guessing boats that are thin wont have to close the road then!
why didnt they just elevate the bridge a bit higher so that tall ships can pass freely?
Maybe because the road would be about 100ft higher.
So...where was the ship??
cool video.. nice1
think thats big well ever seen the oasis could that fit
Ciaran Mrs bailey
Why does Tower Bridge open but other bridge like millennium bridge does not?
WINHONG because the tower is the end of the port of london.
The millennium bridge doesn't rotate 'flat', it rotates upwards
If you know what I mean
how does it get pass london bridge?

lights do not apply to cyclists in London, you should leave a gap in the bridge, that would help get rid of a few !
That is giant
It looks a bit like PAC-MAN in the arcade

Sailing barge will? Is that some English joke I don't get?
I think that's actually just the vessel name. If it is in fact a joke, I also don't get it.
Ok thanks.
Nøderak The presenter's name is Will
Ok thanks
Why lift it fully for the queen, she's in-elected and she's basically a tourist attraction.
That's part of the whole tourist attraction.
You've literally answered your own question, for tourists....
ROUND UP ROUND UP ITS THE POINTLESS WALKING TALKING TOURIST ATTRACTION WHO PAYS TAXES TO HERSELF!!
You guys are the best.
Because she is our Queen. Sovereign. Head of state. She has infinitely more of my respect than any politician.
