This is an epoch film. Thank you. My '68 CB350 did not appreciate Million Dollar Highway because I was ignorant and didn't re-jet my carburator for high altitude. Modern motorcycles are the ticket for touring the Rockies! Yankee Boy Basin is not to be missed in the early summer. The wild flowers are incredible. Thanks again.

But rejetting is a great opportunity to find a nice big pull off, take a small hike, and maybe find a quiet tree under which to take a nap.
But yes, fuel injection is a whole lot easier!
My family drove this route four times that I can remember, but this summer at the young age of 44 I finally rode it myself on a motorbike. The experience was amazing and totally different than the old family car!

Having lived in Telluride for 30 years and now Ridgway for six years, this video showcases many of my go to neighborhood rides. It’s always a little fun and interesting to see and hear the outsider perspective and narration on my corner of the San Juans. I recognize every single shot before you tell us where it is, and occasionally mis-speak in the naming of things, which is to be expected. It would have been fun to run into you on the back roads here, and who knows, I may have passed you at some point😊 I had considered going to that dusty lizard, but having recently attended one in Moab and another near Ridgway, I opted out for that one. You made an interesting omission of showing Telluride, probably because of threatening weather, which doesn’t bother me, but you showcased Silverton and Ouray instead. Next time, you might remember not to miss Old Lime Creek Road , which is the historic alternate route to Coalbank Pass . It’s no more challenging than anything else you rode, but is quite fantastic , In the fall especially. Happy trails to you Ian !

I recently traded a 2023 KTM 890 "S" for a 2023 Husqvarna 701. The 701 will run 80 mph reasonably well (with my Madstad windshield). Just South of Rico, you can run Scotch Creek Road (NF-550) up to Hermosa Park Rd, and then go North where it comes back out North of Rico or East where you came up from Purgatory. Scotch Creek was exceptionally challenging when I first did it back in 2005 on an 02 R1150 GS.

Also, Last Dollar Highway starts up by the airport in Telluride and comes out on CO 62 South of Ridgeway. It has a few small challenging sections, but most of it is easy. I recently did that with my son. He was on a 2020 KTM 390 Adv and I was on my 17 R1200 GS Rallye. Very scenic.

This is such a nice video to watch. For the last few weeks, we've seen horrible storms and watched political candidates try to outdo each other. This video brought me back to an earlier time when families traveled for a week in a station wagon. Listening to Dad trying to sound like a trucker with his new Radio Shack Cobra CB while my mom would giggle at him. Dad would pull the microphone away from his 70's mustache and say in a stern voice, " Come on now, this is serious stuff! There is a pigeon plucker ahead at milepost 16 ! ". My mom would laugh and say something like, "16 miles of butt puckers ? What kind of person says those things?" That was the same summer I got my first knife from some campground in the Sequoia National Forest. Something in your video triggered that lost memory. I guess times change. I think this is your best video. In a way, I could hear Sam Elliot in your voice, a calming tone with beautiful videography, dirt roads, mountains with endless trees. It was Perfect. Now I want to find and buy an old Buick station wagon.

Ian: 1. Holy smokes this is killer stuff! so well done. 2. Welcome back to Team690, we're happy to have you. This is the sweet spot for this bike for sure... I see the Veridan cruise on there!

Man such an epic place. Great video. I like to see long form.
I wish I could ride there but I get altitude sickness something terrible.

Nice work Ian - really enjoyed the change of pace. You know you could take this channel where you wanted to and we would happily follow. I love Colorado too and would love to get back there on a bike.

Ian this is one of your best videos! Of course it was more nice for me since I was in some of those areas back in 2016 on my Victory.

Since i agree with you on almost all opinions, what would be your pick:
    Africa twin 2018 DCT or GS 1200 2013~ vs GSa 1200 2013~.
I have currently AT and thinking about going to GS from year 2008 to 2014 would be in my budget, but since i ride quaite a lot of offroad i prefer to have cheaper bikes, so im not dismissing oilheads. Im looking for change because of frustration with AT suspension quality, despite doing tune by specialist its still to harsh for me, so my current priority is suspension comfort, because otherwise i know both bikes will do good job of what i need.
With that in mind would you recommend for me to sell AT and get GS?

Sounds like you need a lighter bike. Big bikes like that are heavy and really beat on the suspension.

what you called a glacial pond is the beginning of a Cirque lake from the head of the glacier holding into the top or side of the mountain. They can become quite large over time.

That was great! I come from the Texas "hill country" where the hills are measured in tens or hundreds of feet. I couldn't do those passes, especially not alone. I was getting short of breath watching your video! Yes, more videos like this. I watched it all the way through before I even realized it was over an hour in length.
