    A couple days before I found this awesome channel, I did the same thing on the C major (ionian). I took the 3 notes per string shape and made couples of 3 and 4 notes connecting to the next octave. For the first time I was able to improvise over a basic Cmajor cadence without much thinking because the shapes were now symmetrical! I also added some notes outside this shape without even realizing! And I thought... THIS is gold! But now that I see you teaching this... I know it' s PLATINUM. I know I will improve my playing greatly through your videos. So Thank you in advance Sir!!

    Yet another light just went on. I’ve been completing the two week challenge and it just hit me that these are all just the octaves running up the neck. I don’t know why it took so long. You said that in the octaves video. For some reason I have to watch your videos multiple times before it sinks in. Thank you.

    Chris I found this to be very clear and complete and excellently presented. You also did not go too fast and I could clearly see everything in the video. Nice! Also at the end you nicely went over the rationale for doing this and what it could do for my playing. A wonderfully complete wrap up and explanation as to why the "assignment" is one to definitely pursue. May I make one technical comment? I have noticed over several of your last videos (I am working my way through your videos from earliest to latest), that the intro musical demonstration is of MUCH higher volume than the rest of the instructional part. I feel a bit blasted out on the intro and dive for my volume control, but then when you start the tutorial, I have to turn you up again. I thought you might like the feedback. Cheers.

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 роки тому +1

      This was a weird one that I found recently. It’s so very odd how guitarists can miss something right under their fingers, and then suddenly it’s there!
      This exercise felt like it literally fell off the fretboard and landed on my foot like a ton of brick. But I had never even considered it’s existence before that. Even knowing that first pattern which is arguably a pretty “common” extension of the pentatonic scale (boxes starting on the b7 and building in octaves).
      Glad you like this stuff!!

    Great video Chris! How do you recommend “connecting” the line ascending from the high a note and back down through the 3rd position you showed us (starting on c)? The fingering seems to get a little funny coming off of the g string and down the d string aiming for the c and sliding to a. Thanks so much for the awesome content!

      Yo Freeman, thanks for the comment.
      I use the pinky descending there, it's tricky...very tricky, but doable with some time spent on it. But no matter how much time you do end up putting into it, that transition from the B to G string with the pinky is "not fun"
