- What's it like to spend seven days at sea and never see dry land! That's what happens when you cross the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary 2. In this episode of @windowseatworldtravel, we hop aboard the only active passenger ocean liner on the planet as we (loosely) retrace the path of the Titanic. What's it like to traverse the icy North Atlantic? Is there enough to do on board the ship? What's it like to leave New York City and never once see a sliver of land under you dock at Southhampton, England a week later? Find out in this episode. And learn about the ship's storied history and the famous people who've stepped aboard similar ships in the past. Plus you'll meet the very special World War II veterans we traveled the ocean with, and learn how they made their mark with everyone else on board.

103 years old and still partying til 2AM; what a G!!! 😂
My first-ever cruise was on the QM2, and we dared to book a round-trip trans-Atlantic crossing, which meant we were at sea for 15 nights! Not once were we bored. We met wonderful people, attended all kinds of enrichment sessions, explored the ship, and relaxed. I think what astounded me most wasn't that we never saw land for a week at a time (we expected as much), but we were stunned at how many birds were flying over the ocean, thousands of miles from land. Those birds have a lot more stamina than I ever imagined!
Experiencing any seasickness?
@@travel_with_renix6956
Not a bit. I've heard that some do, but they must have especially sensitive stomachs.
Not a cruise. It’s a CROSSING. ❤
Do not try and educate americans, they know everything, just leave them alone and they will be happy. You start on them you better remember what happened with Sadaam.
@CarlosAlberto-ii1li Uh. Ok.
That’s a great tribute to those who served .
Thank you! It is an amazing experience with the veterans.
This was our first ever ocean liner crossing. We went to every war veterans seminar and found it fascinating. Meeting, and being able to thank the veterans was an honour. Thank you Jeremy for your fantastic hosting of the seminars and also for providing this video.
Thank you! Hope to see you onboard next May!
I was on one of these crossings in June of (from NYC to Southhampton) last year. Listening to the stories from these veterans was absolutely the highlight of the trip for me, especially the gentleman who had been a part of the Tuskegee Airmen.
He just turned 100 years old! I was on that crossing too - amazing bunch of men.
Jeremy, well done. Thanks for sharing this adventure and thanks for honoring our Veterans.
My pleasure!
Nice to see everyone dressed up appropriately.
Agreed - it is very classy.
I did this on QE2 in 1996 and 2003, and on the QM2 in 2006. There’s a lot to do onboard, but my voyages were a day or more shorter than they do now. I sailed west to east each time. I will never forget my first sight of Liberty Enlightening The World, “our” statue gifted by France.
I’m from Liverpool, the QM2 is docking here for 2 days can’t wait to see it with my son tomorrow, i thought your video was informative and found the titanic on the map very interesting. If i could travel even close to where the titanic sank omg the feeling and experience i’d get would be unbelievable. Perfectly presented by the way.
I was on one of these crossings and had these brave man on-board and was just blown away by their stories!! Love to you all from England
She's a great ship.
We've been on quite a few ships over the years but our first cruise was on the QM2.
We did the transatlantic Southampton, New York, then back to Southampton.
Loved every minute of it.
It's for us the best ship in the world. And we are back on her in April 2025 for a 2week med cruise.
Nice synopsis. Boredom is a mystery to me. People should revel in the quiet hours at sea away from our “busy, busy, busy” world. Sitting on a deck chair with a good book and not having touristy shore excursions sounds like paradise to me.
This past November [2023] there was a westbound 'greatest generation' crossing. One impressive sight was a 104 year old, D-Day veteran swing dancing with young ladies in the Queen's Room 🙂
That was definitely Steve Melnikoff! He’s a hoofer!
I love this 😅
I'm going next year to avoid airline travel and carnival cruise ship passengers. 😁
Well done! The only way to cross. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
This is truly the only comfortable way of crossing the Atlantic. After my first crossing, I only fly if I have no choice.
Agreed. It is amazing!
My parents and older sister emigrated from England to the United States in 1954. They were passengers aboard the S.S. America. For the rest of their lives, our mother and father had nothing but lavish praise for their experience on board that ocean liner, back then. We flew to visit Ireland, England and Wales some eleven years later, when the airlines were in their heyday. By that time, travel by ocean liner was quickly declining. While in England that summer, we saw from a distance the 1936 RMS Queen Mary while she was moored at her dock. It must have been Southhampton, but possibly not (I was 7 years of age at the time). The adults in the group were sure of her identity, but we didn't drive any closer. Nevertheless, she was a very large ship, even from where we were - maybe 3/4 of a mile to a mile away.
This is a beautiful way to travel - and it makes sense that it would give your family members such a lifetime of great memories.
Definitely on my 🪣 list!😊
I have sailed QM2 numerous times through various ports. Each trip was wonderful.
Thank you for sharing this AWSOME Video. Thank you for your service!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love to go on with the veterans. Is there a link to those sailings?
That's so cool. I've been watching first the QR2, then the QM2, since 2004, docking in Quebec City across from my home, since i was a kid, every fall. When i finally make it to Europe, i will come back on the QM2. Hopefully in a few years .....
It is an unforgettable way to travel. And there’s nothing cooler than seeing a massive cruise ship at port and wondering about the people onboard - who are they, where are they going? Finally you will get to experience that for yourself with the QM2!
What's the "QR2"?
Definitely Top on my List.
You’ll love it!
I've done the 80th anniversary crossing, such a joy.
What a delightful video from Cheshire in the uk x
we are crossing westbound this december, cant wait, the weather should be interesting!
You’ll have a great time. It’s an amazing ship.
Crazy thing is it takes Queen Mary2, 7 days to make this trip from south Hampton to New York, the first queen mary used to make this trip in four days and the SS United States took three days. 7 days is roughly the same time it would’ve taken titanic to get from south Hampton to New York had it not sunk. I definitely wouldn’t mind booking a trip from south Hampton England to New York on queen Mary 2, this was how people used to travel back in the day.
Southampton (1 word)
I did a half world tour on the P&O Aurora. That was a beautiful ocean going ship, definitely not a cruise ship. It was a perfect size. I'd never travel on those huge floating blocks of flats that are killing tourism in many places.
Love this! So cool!
I took my bucket list crossing on her in December (flew to the UK & crossed back), and have to say that seven days were not enough. I now want to scrape the money together to do either a round trip, or the Holiday Caribbean trip.🥰
Want to join me on the WORLD trip? That's the last item on my bucket list.
Strangely i need to watch this content instead of historians who speak about ocean liners, a bit sad. I mean don't get me wrong but i'd like a somber in depth dive on this ship.
Man I'd love to be on a cruise with these brave men & women. I'd love to talk to them.....that would be priceless.
Come along! We’re sailing with them again the last week of May!
@@windowseatworldtravel that would be so awesome......I hope to make it 😊
It is wonderful to see you here , hello from Kansas City
Hello! I’m miss KC and all that great BBQ! Especially Gates, though I realize that’s an unpopular opinion :)
No Gates is good, there’s a new one called Kansas City Joe’s that’s all the raves. I still like Smokehouse on North Oak and Ollie Gates 👍🏻
It has always been a dream of mine to Shake the hand of a WWII VET!! and have never known where to go or have the time to... And I have also been planning this year to go on the Queen Mary 2... So are you telling me that in the most random of places, I will finally be able to check off that bucketlist item?!!! Please tell me they do the Vets things every trip 🙏🙏
It’s not every trip! But they are planning one in late May/early June 2024 just before DDAY. Check with Cunard asap and book passage!
@@windowseatworldtravel Thank you!! 🙏💪
@@windowseatworldtravel Btw, I am from Puerto Rico which is why its a bit hard to achieve that "handshake" in the first place haha... If I lived in the states it would be easier to run into one, or go to at least 1 event. But planning a trip to the States just for the handshake is a bit of a stretch 🤣Although well deserved for the Vet lol
Which is why this would be an amazing random addition to an already great trip, if I planned it for that date. So I think I'll move it from 2023 to 2024 just for that! Thank you for making this video! Keep up the good work 👍
I think QM2 shouldn't be ends in terms of service as an last ocean liner, there should be another ocean liners after QM2 ,of course to continue services as well as in memory of QM2, the next ocean liners should be QM3 ,her length should be near about 400meter and breadth should be 60 to 62 meter to carry more passengers and to fight very casually against North Atlantic 's unpredictable weather and massive waves due to very rough seas and storms. QM 2 is an remarkable example of an ocean liners which tackles very easily Atlantic's unpredictable weather and massive waves due to rough seas than many modern day cruise ships.
I took this cruise from England to NYC (Atlantic Crossing) THE most cruise I have ever been on!! I was with my Mom and she like Napkin folding class etc...I hated the "class" system. Yes it was years ago, but I did not like that my waiter talked with me and got in trouble cause he was not supposed to interact with the travelers. I went to Matre De and complained, saying I paid for this trip and want to be able to talk to anyone. Crazy boring stuff. I was crying when I landed in NYC and just wanted to go home. I have been on about 40 cruises..this was worst by far
Would feel weird being where she sank! This is a trip I should plan on
You definitely should. It’s unforgettable
Loved my crossing southampton to New York just before covid. So much so im doing the round trip October 2026,,gives me time to save up for my commodore club bill 😂
I'm curious, when would the crossing face the worst weather? It's when I'd like to make this crossing.
One of the people looking at the tip of Manhattan skyline at the beginning of the video looks just like the British actress who plays the psychiatrist relative of Doc Martin.
I will definitely cross a number of times too..
Ballroom dancing does not take place "pretty much every night." It takes place EVERY night!"
Forgive us for the mistake!
I was on the QE2 three times transatlantic it was the 5-day Crossings then so it wasn't quite fast and it was under Steam and then I took the QE2 from Cape Town to Southampton in the 14-day trip it was an ultimate trip in my opinion
Sounds amazing! Cunard knows how to do it right!
Even though Im afraid of the ocean, I would love to sail on QM2
You gotta give it a shot!
Great video, good conversation is the priority.
Queen Mary 2 is actually supposed to resemble the Original 1936 Queen Mary, those black lines on the front of the super structure are supposed to resemble an open promenade deck
Didn’t know that! Very cool.
Hello, on arrival to Southampton, how did immigration formalities work? Did everyone had to line up airport style to have their passports checked?
They actually handle immigration during the cruise - you visit an onboard immigration agent at your appointed day and time during the crossing, they stamp your passport, and you’re all set! It makes getting off the ship a breeze.
@@windowseatworldtravelThey didn’t stamp my passport when I sailed this summer. I was so disappointed!
Hard as I tried I couldn't convince my wife to do a westbound cruise on QM2. We opted for a 12 day R/T New England-Canadian from Bklyn next year. Ironically she decided on doing a 15 day Transatlantic repo on Royal with 5 ports and 5 seadays btw the Canary Is and Bermuda. Go figure.
Are you doing the NE-Canada with the Independence Day celebration as a part of it? My friend and I will be traveling on that one!
Did u cross the titanic's sinking coordinates? What about icebergs on the route
Not the precise coordinates. And no icebergs on our crossings! But they do still exist out there at certain times of year.
Too royal for me. I like wearing clothes that are actually comfortable.
It’s crazy you only have 4K subs SMH!! It’s a shame, go to studios instead of UA-cam
8:14 yeah no thanks
I am very sad to hear that 3 dogs survived the Titanic. 3 Babies would of matter more then 3 spoiled, pretentious dogs.
What an odd comment.
One week of doing nothing is not for everybody. Even if they gime me for free the ticket I wouldn't do this trip.
Mid-20th Century, not mid-19th Century.
The quality has gone drastically downhill the past few years. After this years trip , NEVER again. The food was inedible, skimpy, cheap. The room steward pushing us to get up each morning, the balcony rooms nothing special. But it was the food that made me sick. Never again.
When did you cross this year?
Wait, you telling me rich people would rather save their dogs then literal people? That's just sad.
The Titanic lifeboats were typically filled to just 60%, even less so for the first few lifeboats since the passengers didn’t necessarily believe it would totally sink at first. So the small dogs that survived probably didn’t really take up space from anyone else.
I'd save my cat before strangers 😆
The dogs saved are "lap dog" sized breeds...meaning they wouldn't have taken up a seat. 😊
Why the h3ll would you include on your map the location of where the Titanic sank? Do airlines tell you about where all planes have crashed? I've done this crossing several times and you do NOT do it justice. No video can do this experience justice. Thanks for trying. 0:54 ... the chip??? The word is SHIP!
Well I hope you find a better video out there.
Are there anyone under 40 there m everyone looks 60 plus
Plenty of people under 40.
Let's have more video of the ship, and MUCH less of you.
Can’t wait to see your video!
Must have been crap if it only managed 11 minutes and 27 seconds.
Huh?
