A true story of regret, reflection and redemption in athletics and how losing it all and learning the hard way ultimately changed a life for the better.
The former Ohio State star, Maurice Clarett captivated the country with his running back skills in early 2000s and was on pace to be one of the best ever to play but his fall from the top was far and the world never got to see what could have been for football’s favored back from Youngstown, Ohio.
Ryan, Channing and Fred reminisce about how amazingly talented Clarett was on the field and size, stature and running back skills were something the game has never seen before. Detailing his path fast tracked from highschool to playing at Ohio State to winning a National Championship in 2003, However, no one knew that his game-winning touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl would be the last time Clarett touched the football on a major stage.
Growing up with gangs and hustling to make his way, Clarett lived on his own from his teenage years and found football as a means of getting him out of his surroundings and into a different level of living. With all the talent and work ethic needed, Clarett could write his own ticket straight to the NFL in a short time with the accolades and perception surrounding him.
Using the fame and fortune of his overnight stardom to a disadvantage, Clarett ran the streets and allowed his upbringing to be at the forefront of poor decisions and criminal activity which ultimately cost him his career and freedom. Clarett reveals what really went on with his football suspension from OSU, his mental health struggles, details of his aggravated robbery, dodging death, missing out on the NFL, embarrassment and finding purpose through pain in prison.
Although his football career and life was a tragic tale of an athlete at the top of the world who lost it all and never got it back, it’s also one of triumph as Clarett uses his life experiences to better himself, fuel his passions and everyday try to impact and make a difference in someone's life.

Maurice mention Coach Prime on your podcast y’all could create a “Pivot” move to reconnect these two men.
Coach Prime players , coaches & support staff need to hear his empowering message. Watching Colorado vs Stanford game tonight Coach Prime needs help with these young players.
Watch your podcast all the time & I truly believe you & your guests sharing your life experiences connects with viewers & lives are being changed.
Coach Prime need’s everyone in the “Village” to step up & give him a “helping hand”. When young people get to comfortable it’s easy for them to “check out” so you need to build a tag team of men like Maurice.

SHAME ON YOU OSU, YOU HAVE A MAN COMPRABALE to a Deion Sanders in his stance and love for our youth, redemption, forgiveness, accountability. Listen to this man speak, listen to his heart, when you have another school realizing the value of this man speaking and ingratiating themselves to him. The amount of transparency , clarity, pain, redemption- these are things that we often do NOT SEE commonly in our Black communities. The Pivot Podcast is doing something that many other programs aim for, but cannot achieve. You are making a DIFFERENCE. Period. Changing the narrative on Black Men, Athletes, Families, Addiction, Redemption- essentially all parts of the human condition. Please keep doing this important work, speaking for those who are voiceless, and evolving perspective for the world. Bravo, God Bless Brothers.

I was a fan of Maurice Clarett while @ tOSU and prayed for him during his struggles. I’m more of a fan since his release (physical jail, mental jail). Goes to show that what we might think is a dead end is really an open road to success (however you define success). Cudos to Maurice for pivoting and cudos to The Pivot Podcast for this incredible episode.

This is therapy for the guest, but it’s also therapy to the viewers. You guys need to invite a few viewers onto the show to express the experience of watching you’ll show. From the good to the bad I(we) need a show so many people can relate too!

I wasnt really feeling this episode when the thumbnail popped up because I've heard his story before. But none of this has ever been told before like how OSU did him and all the details of his life. Glad i clicked now. And i hope other young brothers listened too!!
