    For all of his success Phil is somehow criminally underrated. He was a monster of a player, singer, songwriter and showman. He was a consummate professional, had an otherworldly work ethic and just recorded hit after hit. Whether it was with Genesis or Solo, everything he produced was brilliant. Everyone knows the hits, but there is much gold to be mined in the deep tracks.

      Big time underrated. The late Taylor Hawkins said Phil was an inspiration to him. The late Neil Peart said Phil’s timing was impeccable. Unreal musician.

      I kind of get where you're coming from, but Phil Collins is one of the most successful and beloved artists of all time. How is that underrated? I think you mean his success maybe outshines his actual abilities. As in people who aren't really familiar with him see the superstar, but don't really know he's a monster musician, that he's technically very gifted. They only see the singer. Or maybe you mean that critics always loved to hate on him? That is true, and Phil notoriously resented that.

    What I really wish for is that Phil Collins could see all the fabulous comments his fans leave so he knows how much he is loved. Phil we love and miss you so very much. I am sending best wishes and much health your way.

      my 2 year old grandson asks to watch this video every time he sits on my knee in front of the computer. He drums along on the desk the whole time. He does have a beginner set of drums at home. When my daughter comes into his room to video him on the drums he says,""Mommy no pictures and pushes her out of the room and shuts the door. He's a riot.

      Phil is more fluent than powerdrummer Chester Thompson.Difficult to tell from this simultaneous drumming but it makes for a more musical sound. My favourite drummer in this style is Simon Phillips , Collin's countryman. A great technician.(from a semi-professional drummer )

    It’s heavy to watch Phil doing what he really loves best. As a drummer, especially in the old Genesis days, his greatest strength was as a very detailed colorist. He never failed to create drum parts that elevated the music. He pioneered new drum sounds in the 80s that defined the decade. And along the way created some of the most memorable drum breaks ever. It’s not an athletic competition.. it’s music. And Phil is an unbelievably musical and creative gentleman.

    • @bignasty3274
      @bignasty3274 2 роки тому

      @Dave Tourle
      Yes he can play the genre but he doesn't play them all well. Phil isn't a very technical drummer and hasn't been a well travelled and played session drummer. He was 19 when he joined Genesis who themselves were formed in 1967 so Phil hasn't been exposed to the music industry at that level like say a Simon Phillips who is a complete master of the art and acclaimed but fellow drummers and industry executives as one one of the all-time greats. I have a recording of Phil playing with Jethro Tull and an interview with Ian Anderson saying he was a "disaster"
      So whilst he can play the different aspects of music genre he doesn't play them all well. I could name 20 drummers who are more technically accomplished than Phil. I've been a drummer for over 49 years now and still learning and whilst I do like Phils work I wouldn't class him as anywhere near the best drummers in the world IMHO.

Phil, thank you for bringing the world so many wonderful songs for so many decades...God bless you and thanks again for the wonderful music.
    As each of us grow older, let us remember the lyrics from a James Taylor song - "Oh, September grass is the sweetest kind, it goes down easy like apple wine Hope you don't mind if I pour you some, made that much sweeter by the winter to come..."

    Phil Collins became the new frontman of Genesis in 1977 as a very good lead voice and as one of the best drummer of the world. With a surprising and brillant solo career in parallel all over the world, like "In the Air" (his first LP) and "I wish it would rain down".

    Thank you, JOKER, for keeping this video up here. This is just like watching an Olympic athlete perform years later. Thank god this was put on film so we can still see it now. Phil Collins is the greatest drummer of all time. And he basically gave his body and his spine, to the drums. He's in too much pain now to do this anymore. He's losing his mobility from the damage. Just like I am. He is easily the hottest man who has ever lived. No matter what age he is, he will STILL be the hottest man who has ever lived.
