Siyeon transitioned from rock band singer to cute idols to rock idols
Minx era for Dreamcatcher is exactly a love-hate relationship. Sometimes they can talk about it very comfortably and have fun with all the nostalgia feelings. But sometimes, they can feel uneasy when someone mentions about minx coz in the end, it is their darkest time with full of disappointment, desparation, stress and sadness; especially for Siyeon. She once said that during minx hiatus, she hated listening to any kind of music and cried alot everytime she laid in bed.
Exactly as you said, after saw all minx contents, i just treasure Dreamcatcher way way more. Minx maybe their darkest time but thank to this, we now have 7 fearless girls, who made stable foothold in the music scene and ready to challenge any obstacles.
I think all their recent success and festival invites etc have really helped put the curse of Minx to bed for them a bit - all the comments back then about 'failed idols' when they disbanded mean very little these days. Without Minx there is no Dreamcatcher and their initial drive to make that concept work must have at least partially come from knowing that they were lucky to get a second chance and would be unlikely to get a third.

Some things about Happyface. They knew what they had in those girls so they weren't going to let them go. The company had no other artists at that time other than Dalshabet who were in the end stage of their careers. Their CEO is not one of the ruthless business types who run most of the Kpop agencies. He's a creative type who focuses on the music. He created Happyface along with E-Tribe, the duo of songwriter/producers behind Girl's Generation's iconic hit Gee. It's hard to follow Korean corporate doings because everything is super secret and nobody talks, but in 2016 Happyface went from being an independent company to becoming part of Imagine Asia, a very large multimedia company. Reading between the lines it's seems the Happyface CEO put his company on the line to get the financing needed to rebrand Minx into Dreamcatcher, and produce their very expensive debut MV. Jo Dong Hyuk doesn't work for peanuts. That makes me respect Happyface even more because their are some very bad Kpop agencies who treat their trainees like slaves (cough, Star Empire, cough). Yoohyeon was initially accepted by one such agency and left after one day. I don't know how she found her way to Happyface, but it's where a fragile, sensitive person like her could thrive and blossom.
Anyway, the girls would not have been told about the high level negotiations between Happyface and Imagine Asia. That's where the bad feelings come from. They didn't know what was going to happen to them. It's was pretty standard at that time for a failed group like Minx to completely disappear. It hit Siyeon the hardest because of all of them she was clearly born to do one thing. Stand on a stage and sing.
Their CEO was also a fan of jrock and visual kei, which was partially the genesis for Dreamcatcher's commitment to their rock/metal influence!

Siyeon said she's a mezzo and debuted with a whistle note and did all the high notes for Minx, she in general prefers lower chesty vocals and belts so I can see why she would lip sync some parts back then, the funny thing is she would often do all the notes live like with WDYCTMH which is a high -> whistle -> low but occasionally she would drop one or the other in live performances. She also nailed all of Beyonce's notes and adlibs in their radio cover of End of Time at 19.
I recommend checking out their crossroads live performances of the b-sides when you check those out. My absolute favorites are Black or white and jazz bar from those. Also tension has an english version they did at primavera. Primavera sound actually uploaded their full set and performance on yt as well.
They had the same stage presence then as they do now. If I'd found them in 2015 I would have been a Minx fan. If they'd had a big company behind them they would be standing where Twice is now. But they didn't. Their CEO admitted that the company failed them with poor promotion and a lot of mistakes, like the recycled comeback (good song, I like it) and no album with their debut song. They worked so hard, performing in rather sleazy venues all over Seoul. It's clear when you watch their live performances that they were having fun especially early on. The negative feelings they have about Minx came near the end when they didn't know if their Kpop careers were finished or not. Dami and Siyeon wanted to do different kinds of music, but the other three had no problems with mainstream Kpop at that time. This Autumn performance in 2016 just before they were pulled back to begin transforming to Dreamcatcher says everything you need to know about Minx. love shake was their first comeback, but it was a recycled b-side from their labelmate dalshabet. so imagine making your first comeback and reusing a former b-side track. they climbed a very steep mountain from ground zero.
Jiu was deemed the visual so she got most screentime early on. Minx had potential it was just a sea of this concept at the time, so they got lost in the mix. I know some people say it was failure but it was just wrong timing which ironic follows them even into Dreamcatcher journey.
I was fan from hearing them from a festival even before Minx debut with a song called "Action" and honestly SuA caught my eye the most. Long black haired suits her well, so I understand the fanboys going crazy on her parts lol.😅
The original 5 girls don't talk about Minx very much at all. It's too painful for them. If you watch enough of the video compilations that are out there you get snippets here and there. Siyeon staying in her room for weeks during the month or two before they transformed, Sua's hatred of short hair, Jiu being stressed and sensitive, really very little. Gahyeon and Handong love to tease them about Love Shake so I think they're pretty much over it. All I've seen about their debut with Chase Me is Sua saying how worried she was that it might not work. I can't find the clip where she said that, but watching the 'Making of' videos for Chase Me and Good Night again made me realize they were better than the actual MV. You get to see a lot of the shots that were cut from the MV's and of course the girls behaving just like they did as Minx when the cameras aren't rolling. Actually, after winning, they are much more relaxed about their MINX past as you can see from (ENG) [Dreamcatcher's Note] 지니뮤직 PLAY COLOR 'MAISON' 촬영 현장 on their official channel. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/GpK7JcVmKm4/v-deo.html SuA, JiU and even Dami are dancing enthusiastically to Love Shake along with Handong while Gahyeon is commenting. Yoohyeon and Siyeon are seated in the background getting their hair and makeup done. Yoohyeon is seen laughing and while you never see Siyeon's face, at the 1:30 mark her cheekbone rises indicating a smile before she makes a finger sign circling the left side of her head to indicate the others (SuA in particular) are crazy. I also think that Siyeon has let go of most of the trauma now, otherwise JiU being the thoughtful leader she is, and SuA being so close to Siyeon (i.e. SuaYeon) would not dance and sing that loudly in front of her.
What's wrong with the shorts Yoohyeon and Dami have technically been legal adults for weeks now. (/sarcasm). Being those 5 they did amazing with some super generic and tired out material and really questionable clothing decisions from unseen executives. They mic-checked the hell out of that... dock. "If Twice and Gfriend never debuted" their talent and charisma would have made them huge by 2018... doing THAT over and over. We're all glad Twice and Gfriend debuted for a lot of reasons.
I don't think it can be overstated how stressful it must have been for them to use Dal-Shabet's b-side as the title track for their first mini-album. Have to speculate that the future of Minx had been in question for a while.
It is not a good sign for sure and likely affected the members. :(
Not gonna lie I actually love Minx's songs including some of their b-sides but just couldn't put myself on watching their mv's so I just listen when watching reactions.
I think DC doesn't hate Minx's songs but the nightmares of its memories.

Shake It was released in the Summer 2015, 10 months after Minx have debuted with Why Did You Come to My Home. Yoohyeon and Dami had just graduated from High School in February, a few months before. That's why everybody's looking so young. In comparison, Gahyeon was still in 10th Grade, still a Freshman in High School and Handong had already finished High School.
The songs were still not bad) Although some incomprehensible effect was used in the production, making their voices difficult to distinguish..
But one song is still included in the main playlist of Dreamcatcher for me, because there they sing with their voices and it just sounds very beautiful..
Song name is "I Just Like You (나도 너처럼)". There seems to be even live version for it

30:40 question. I'm a casual fans from minx era. I don't like the song, but they're really attractive and charismatic even back then. their variety show content are really fun to watch. i saw minx siyeon sing(not minx song) and I just hope they change their concept to more girl crush side. but I got even better concept 'dreamcatcher' which are concept that are trying to fit the member instead of the other way around

I love Love Shake l, well not as much as the DC songs but it's a bop for sure. Also, not my cup of tea especially seeing them giving too much fanservice on the mv is a little bit weird considering they were young but maybe it's the bias in me for them that I am able to jam with it.
30:40 snippets of them dancing a little bit or them discussing a little bit of minx era is spread throughout their videos. No video (that I'm aware of) that that is the main agenda.

Love Shake, it's a good song. But I discovered it after discovering them as Dreamcatcher of course. But I do like it. Its catchy imo. And I did watch some people covering it on youtube but by using electric guitar, and its dope lol.
But for sure, if i would listen to this song during the time it is released, i think i wont stay long. Cuz that time I am into Gfriend and I listen to them a lot lol.
But I truly respect the fact that Happyface sticks with the girls rather than disbanding them completely. Cuz Dreamcatcher is just one of the big things I must say, that I discovered in my life. Never been this type of stan into kpop before, total obsessed, everyday Dreamcatcher, laugh, emotional, nervous, warm, the feelings just different. 💘
I dont know what to recommend for video related to minx, but I think I saw some video there where they talk a bit here and there about minx. But I do really really waiting u to react to more of Dreamcatcher's song especially the B-sides lol. Anyway, thanks for the reaction 🤟🏻
I actually like the song, but I really hate the concept. here's hoping for DC version of their sunbaenim song.
Jiu's voice is suitable for this kind of concept, but still, i love her voice in DC. and yoohyeon's too. the other 3 are out of their comfort zone and the 3 are most affected esp Siyeon.
Thankfully they flopped.. and also thankfully they re-debut. imagine if they just disbanded to nothingness (sadness for the world).

Thanks for the video. The differences between Minx and Dreamcatcher is huge haha. But there are some hints of Dreamcatcher in Minx. Definitely got a hint of their vocals for sure. If you get a chance, I recommend watching their "Wings" by little mix cover. It's the same outdoor fancam that you watched their "Love Shake" performance. There's also their "End of Time" cover as well. JiU shows off her fuller voice in this cover so I definitely recommend this! Hopefully you'll get a chance to see these.

I also think that they tended to showcase their harmonies more as Minx. Though Dreamcatcher have been doing a lot of harmonies in their latest tracks which is really satisfying to hear. They used to just do most of their harmonies in covers.
If you get a chance to see their dance practices, they were definitely really good dancers as well and they all looked awesome! Minx pretty much had the hints of it all: the talent, the vocals, the dance, and the visuals. Luckily, the CEO of Happyface really believed in them and gave them such a strong concept that they are able to pull off as Dreamcatcher.
I personally really like WDYCTMH, but this one gets a bit annoying to me 😅 Siyeon HATES Love Shake and I can see why. Also the MVs are uncomfortable to watch, but the vocals are amazing as always. I very likely wouldn't be a fan if they stuck to this concept, so the change was only for the best 😊
Love Shake can be a little repetitive but I think the melody is incredibly catchy. Looking forward to exploring a couple of other Minx songs! I have Why Did You Come To My Home and I just Like You on my list for Minx.

The way they dress them like little girls and do those dances is disturbing. The way most korean males views girl groups is disgusting. Do you know the recent scandal? A girl group asked to sing and perform at military when they were doing vlive and the girls said they don’t want to perform for military man and a lot of male fan wrote hundreds of disgusting comments online about this group. The clip went viral and the comments were so bad.
I don't think I would be able to appreciate minx if I hadn't known them as dreamcatcher first. It's just mainly coz I'm really not into to the cutesy concepts. I still find the MV somewhat disturbing though..

Making them lookhot is fine but why did they dress them like little girls? If they want to make a video like that then they should dress them like adults not like young little girls. It’s disturbing.
It was the fashion in 2014 (seriously, look at any other kpop video with this concept from that era, they blend in completely) but the costuming choices make me really uncomfortable given how young Dami and Yoohyeon were.

minx and dreamcatcher staff are diffrent btw. so yea diffrent management
the main top management is the same. sure some of the other staff like hair stylists, managers, etc might have changed but that's normal over the course of 7+ years.

@@mushroomexpress3049 depends what you mean by staff. if you mean just people around who help out, sure some or many have changed since minx. but the top management hasn't changed. management makes the decisions, not staff and I think that was the question he was asking. the ceo is legend for essentially risking the company by giving them a second chance.
