Ive been asking my husband now for 3 months to change my oil...he still hasn't done it! So...thanks to you, I am off to auto zone to get me a filter and some oil and DO IT MYSELF!!! I grew up on a farm, I am not afraid of hard work...but I know nothing automotively speaking. But this looks easy enough!!! Who knows, maybe Ill be back to see how the brakes are replaced. Thank you so much for the step by step, people like me really appreciate the little details, where others may know this and it seem silly to them. Thank you, wish I had a lift like yours...but its rolling underneath for me!
That big plastic cover, blocking easy access to oil filter, is removable. Also helps from getting oil from filter, all over underside of plastic cover.
I'm getting ready to do an oil change on my boss's 2009 mazda 3 tomorrow, and this right here is the question I've been looking for an answer to. The other 2 or 3 vids I've seen for this, the plastic cover seems to be missing before they even start. It's just a few bolts, right? I'm trying to figure out why she left it in the way..
And this is why you consistently see mazda with bent splash guards. Mechanics and techs too lazy to undo four bolts, and instead, pull it down and warp the plastic! LOL
there are some debated regarding whether or not the filter should be primed, since the pouring may introduce particulates into the clean side of the filter
You can do that, only when your filter is pointing upward or oil will be spilled.I have been doing without prime for over 30 years and i never had a problem. Just unnecessary. All you need is just smear oil around the filter ring; so it will be easy to remove for the next oil change.
With a filter this small it’s really not necessary cause the filter fills up almost instantly but if you have an older Chevy or dodge some Ford’s have 1 quart oil filters and that is the application you would use this method
Really appreciate this guide. However, when I purchased oil filters for my mazda, it did not come with the exterior can... So I guess I need to reuse the can?
The filters they give me when I do the on sale or deal crap from AutoZone, advance, or O'Reilly's are way smaller then that. They tried that when I had a 1500 truck an they gave me a tiny filter I said he'll no they said it's compatible. I said give me the one my truck calls for they said okay but we can't do the sale with that one??? After that never wasted money on them sales again. In my mind smaller filter is bad for longevity of vehicle? I could be wrong.
Every 03-09 Mazda is lol. My mechanic's explanation is that the steel for those is produced in the coastal Cities of China and shipped over to Japan where it sits for a while before it is used. While it's sitting unused in those humid climates it corrodes prematurely, so by the time it's shaped into the body of the car it's already gone bad. 10 years down the road the rust spots start appearing. I have an '04 Mazda and half the car is covered in shoddy rust jobs, and it's still rusting all over the place. Got involved in a slight fender bender which chipped away a small piece of the paint near the headlight. That spot turned orange, the black over the span of a month. It's as if they used pig iron instead of steel. Sad: for its age that car performs like new. i plan on driving it until its floor rusts through and i got holes for my feet like Fred Flintstone lol.

All the mazda.3 sound like a samurai sword on start up 😆
Fr😂😂

I lost mine, it ripped of, I figure because of that, It must of got caught while backing up in the snow because it was bent like that.
I must be really lazy. I enlarged the hole for the filter access.
@@bobsoft 😂😂😭 for next time bro
Yep, Charged me $25 bucks for a tie strap...nice fix..
If you have the time. I'm trying to make money,if you don't need to remove it, don't.

what kind of oil does take? 10w 30 or 5w 30?
Very intelligent lady. I like the way she followed every single step.. Very precisely done. Great 👏

I have never heard about priming the oil filter
Or replacing the drain plug gasket... So unnecessary
Until you experience your first oil leak my boy.

guess it makes sense if you think about it.
1:59 are you sure thats not the dipstick?
Its nice you can prime your filter... I cant do that on a cobalt
It’s awesome to see a woman working on a car in a field that seems to be male dominated.
But why does she call the dipstick "the drain plug" at 1:22?
Kid, have you ever heard of a small mistake? We all do it as human beings, obviously she knew it was a dipstick
@@rarukuxcarung3706 if you’re gonna be educating people on important stuff, you shouldn’t be making mistakes like this on something this important.
Love ur Mazda 3 videos I have the same car
Lovely video thanks a lot
What is being held in the black sump? It's located just left to the oil drain plug
What if we install the new oil filter without priming it? I did that and then added the new oil after installing the new oil filter..
I always do it without priming it. I think it just comes down to preference.

Which oil is best for 2.0 LF engine
80% of engines oil filter is sideways? Let’s see her prime them not necessary at all. You should rub oil around the rubber seal on the oil filter.
Y the hell you say it's a 17mm from the drain plug. I go out and buy one drive 1/2 hr back home and it's not a 17mm
Why does the car have that raspy noises at the start of 6:29? Mine does that too but it goes away once the car has warmed up
Old or slipping belt maybe
In my car, it's the starter
Really appreciate this guide. However, when I purchased oil filters for my mazda, it did not come with the exterior can... So I guess I need to reuse the can?
Some cars are cartridge filters that don't need the can, they just gave you the wrong filter for the year of your car
My Mazda 3 idling rough , it cuts off during acceleration from a complete stop
The underside of that mazda 3 has seen better days.. they rust so easy.
That's for sure! We hope this video was helpful and thanks for checking us out! +Levi Roberts
Levi Roberts I wonder why they rust so easily? It’s very common
Shame but mazdas always like to rust easily
They even rust inside, my 2009 Mazda 3 has rust under the seats, the bolts leading to the cabin air filter were even seized. It’s crazy.
Should see mine, this is nothing 😂
If u put a 1/2 qt of oil in the filter before the change, u would put 4 qt's in after. Not 4 1/2.U over filled!
Woman moment
I need a oil pan 2006 Mazda 3 2.3l 4 hatchback pls pls..
All mazda owners now know why their splash guards are hanging, it’s because poeple like yoh are to lazy
I took mine off-roading and it broke off haha flew over some rocks and got airtime
She said what ¡ clean up after your self!!!! 😂😀

Great video but mine is a paper filter not a regular filter
+randy foreman Thank you for your feedback!
It's interesting that the mazda 3 uses both. Not sure why they use both??
Can you go to a reg filter from a paper one
@@neto5059 If it has the Plastic housing with the insert filter? Then no.
The 2.0 L engine uses the spin on filter as shown in the video, but the 2.3 L uses a cartridge style filter.
good job. The car is so rusty on the bottom
