As a photographer i just love this vlog. One can see the conflict that's going on in your mind to decide if you want to move, stay put or find a different comp. Plus the hit and miss of shooting different comps and trying out different shots. Most vlogs just cover the best parts but this one was very relatable.
Some beautiful work Michael! I would be interested in how you were able to combine some of these images. There was so much movement in the surf, and it appeared that your tripod was moving, yet the rocks and sea stacks were in focus. It appeared that you were bracketing manually as opposed to allowing your camera to do that for you. All in all, I loved the video and the images you came away with.
I just love your style of photography/video. Just the right blend of explaining and photos. I know from experience it can be hectic, but you always sound calm. Nothing better on a Sunday!
I’m just gonna go ahead and live vicariously through you Michael because we rarely get the combination of sunset and seascape motion here in New England. Sunrises maybe but the juice is in sunsets. Great job👍🏼
As always, educational, relatable, enjoyable, and enviable. Heading that way in a couple of weeks for a family vacation. Hoping to sneak down there with the camera.
I always watch your videos with great enthusiasm. It is always fascinating and instructive. Your city has a wonderful nature. Thank you Michael for your good energy. 🙂
Really nice video and images! I occasionally shoot seascapes and use a Sony body too. I highly recommend protecting the hotshoe with the Nikon hotshoe cover that Nick Page recommends. The smallest splash of water in there will cause you great frustration possibly for weeks. The plastic Sony insert is useless. Again, wonderful images! Inspiring.
Really good stuff Michael! Great sunset at an iconic location. Surprised you weren't fighting more photographers and tripods that day. Conditions looked superb!
I love it. I was hoping to see a pic in landscape orientation that filled my screen so I could really see the detail and colour. Beautiful none the less.
You know, I always face this dilemma when the light is good and I have only two hands. In your vlog I could feel the pull and push of light in both directions. Love this golden gate shot more though.
I love this seascape blog, Michael! I appreciate that you explain your thought process for compositions, and that you show what each shot looks like before the final edit. I live in So Cal and one of my bucket list shots is of the Golden Gate from Marshall’s Beach (and also from Mt Tam). I’m not that far, just need to pick a good weekend and go!
This vlog was amazing. Totally understand that chaotic adrenaline rush chasing beautiful light and grabbing as many compositions as possible. Great video, it’s amazing that you can still vlog hahaha
Your camera for showing the viewers what you were doing had a massive wide angle stabilized image. Your hands were viewable so it must have been attached to you. Can I ask what you were using?
This was an excellent seascape vlog! Enjoyed hearing your process and confirmation of how chaotic these types of shoots are. I was literally down there in November at Marshall’s beach and struggled to find compositions because I didn’t allow myself more time before sunset.
Amazing video Michael! Seascape photography is my favorite type of photography as well and I totally agree with you, isn't relaxing at all but at the same time the excitement of getting that motion in the water is rewarding at the end in post. Love this video.
Wonderful and inspirational as always Michael! Great job!! You should consider some of those boring video explaining how you shot your vlogs, as video settings or pictures profiles. I find that your video have the highest quality among landscape photographers and content creators I know of... not only for the content!!! Congratulation and keep on with your amazing work
Two comments: firstly, I love the style of this vlog and being able to see you do the work from your go-pro. To see exactly how you are creating the images and how you react to the scene is awesome! Keep that coming. Seeing you in action is fantastic and a great learning opportunity for us viewers. Secondly, could you do a video for how you edited one of the multiple exposure images. I reckon that would be great!
Thanks, that’s a great idea, I think I have been putting off post tutorials since I do not enjoy making them quite as much, but I think it’s time for a new one on the channel
@@MichaelShainblum, I bet post vids are probs not as fun to make, maybe just one of the multiple exposure ones? But otherwise, love this vid man. Looking forward to the next one! Side note, I just did a shoot at the beach on a storm night... Did you find that the sand wrecks the tripod and it's a pain to clean afterwards
I think this is best video I have seen Thank you 😊 For sharing going out on the field and showing how to compose and mentioning to be careful with the sea waves, A very useful video learnt a lot for it.
I have watched many of your videos Michael, and I really love all the pointers you are giving. Seascape photography is soon to be a new genre of photography for me, at least so much as being serious about it. I have two questions. First, I noticed that you include an Induro tripod in your equipment list. Is that a tripod that comes or has available spike feet for it, or do you find that the spike feet isn't something that is needed for seascape photography? Secondly, what type of shoes or boots, or whatever do wear when shooting seascapes. I have been going over and over in my mind how to keep my gear safe from water and spray, and how to best keep salt and sand out of my vehicle after I am finished with a shoot. Do you have any pointers for that? Thank you.
Fun to watch, excellent images. You've got great "save the camera from the wave" instincts. I was also impressed at your dexterity while changing settings and taking exposures. A great demonstration as to what separates the professionals from this amateur.
Wonderful set of photos. Love watching how you set up your shots and the thought process that goes into it without being long winded. One question I have is why you don’t use an L-bracket, seems like it would make your tripod a lot more stable in wavy conditions. It’s one of the first accessories I buy when getting a camera.
Really enjoy your videos. I also have the A1 and am interested in using F lenses with it. Are you manually focusing all of those with the Novoflex + 14-24? I want to try a Nikon 200 f/2 and am looking for a good adapter.
Very nice, seascapes with moving water are my favourite to shoot. I agree it isn't relaxing though haha, I always have one eye on the waves ready to grab my camera when a rogue wave comes in
Another great video. Loved your sunsetting shots. Hey, one shot I would have taken would have been the comp over your shoulder of the lighted bridge, sky, etc. when you signed off. That's just me. Maybe next time.
Thanks, done way too many of those those though and I was pretty exhausted. I actually did that exact thing in my other POV Marshall beach video which you can also watch on the channel as well. It’s the “How I shoot seawcapes POV”
@@MichaelShainblum Will definitely check that out. I know exactly what's that like having too many shots of the same subject/same angle. At least you might have had a different "look" to the clouds, better or worse. Keep up the good work.
All your seascape vlogs are awesome ! Amazed by the versatility of all the shots ..Just wondering whether u found time to take some telephoto images as well .
Stunning images 😮😮😮👏👏👏 I’m absolutely gutted as was suppose to be over in 2020 for Yosemite trip with stop over before and after in SF with this beach picked out for visit and as yet trip postponed to 2023 currently 😔😔😔
First Michael, some gorgeous sunset images, but a question. A number of photographers would shutter (no pun intended) to think of using a center column for any photography, let alone on the beach. Do you not find or not that it lends itself to less stability or its something you willing to “put up with”. I can see that it makes for raising and lowering your tripod much easier and quicker.
Terrific video, beautiful sunset, and really enjoy the POV with go-pro, feel as if right there with you, and learn a lot. Definitely prefer that point of view rather than b-roll of watching someone walking between tripods or unzipping camera bag. Look forward to next video!
Hi Michael, great work and fabulous location. I wonder Michael did you re-focus every time you took an image or were focusing permanently 1/3 up from the bottom of the frame. Anyway, super work....

Love the POV style in this vlog. Definitely captured the frantic nature of shooting seascapes in changing light & tides.
The lighted bridge with the fading blue sky would have been a sensational last shot of the night. Talk about romantic scenery...
Brave getting out in the water like that...both for the gear and those waves...they get me every time when I am there.
Beautiful! Glad you didn’t get swept away.
Merci beaucoup Michael pour vos explications. Quelles magnifique photos. Marc from France

Beautiful and skilful images. Really enjoyed watching your process. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Val!
Thank you much for showing how you do this. I absolutely love your beach water pics. Now that I see the gear you use I understand.
Wow! Some great shots of a great sunset. Thanks for the motivation.

Spectacular Vlog. Thank you so much for sharing
Spectacular images Michael
The Picture in a video feature is cool. Most engaging video, good sir!
This video is really well done. Love the pov, showing us type of style

Nice work! Never found the center column is that useful before.
What a pleasure to see the Nikon lens on that body. The 14-24 is such a good choice for seascapes.
I love your method with the shot appearing quickly on the side of the screen and camera stats. So helpful thanks. That was almost wetsuit photography.
Really good stuff Michael! Great sunset at an iconic location. Surprised you weren't fighting more photographers and tripods that day. Conditions looked superb!
The Return of the King(of seascapes)
Nice shots Michael...I really gotta get over to the coast again.
Wow!! You got it! The video brings us right into to the action and we can appreciate the final gorgeous images even more!

Thank you Michael. 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

Really useful seeing what you were doing to capture the sunset and the bracketing in particular. Thanks.
Epic conditions Michael! I really like these POV style videos!

Did you focus stack any of these or just focus on your foreground rocks and let the f/16 do the work?
