    Just got home with my harness. Going to start on this next week. (Jury Duty tomorrow.) Found this and it looks like the one I'll watch out in the driveway.
    Wish me luck!
    I'll keep you posted.

      Very doable, just a couple difficult spots to work as noted in the video. Another commenter suggested the rear bumper wiring is easier to do if you lower the spare tire first. Good luck!

    Nice job here. Really appreciate the detail and tips around wire protection and the threaded bolt hole in the rear to keep the wiring tight and secure.

      Thanks for the feedback! I was pleased to find that threaded bolt tab when I got under there and thought others might find it useful as well.

    Thank you for pointing out the difficult parts of this installation. I'm in the middle of this install and have been frustrated. A video from a company that sells this kit makes it sound like it's a breeze to install.

      What, you're not a fleet-installer working on a factory-fresh vehicle for the 350th time? In seriousness, though, thanks for the positive feedback. I do want to show how you will experience the install as the owner of a used vehicle. Not all vendor guides are fair in showing how the job will go when your car has a few years and 100k miles gumming up the works.

    Under the truck u have to take the plug off the body then remove that clip then the waterproof cover comes off. 6:20

    Nice video, good information. I would like to add a couple of points if I may. If you remove the spare tire it makes it a lot easier to work in the space, especially if you are crawling around on the ground. The rear plug is held up by a trim type clip. If you use a screwdriver or trim tool to remove it you can reuse it and don't have to cable tie the plug back up to the chassis. There is a clip on the topside of this plug as well that is released by removing the trim type clip from the plug (it slides out) DO IT and the weather proof plug will release.

    • @nonedispose7420
      @nonedispose7420 Рік тому

      The weatherproof plug is the worse design ever. Why does it have to be so hard to remove? Not very self-intuitive.

    There's noting attached to the blue clip at the bottom.Seems like it was previously cut. Is this normal.That's the only thing missing Is this needed or can I just run it from the inside out?

    Very informative video. Can you put a link to where you got the wiring kit? Or possibly the brand and part number of the kit? I have the same vehicle and want to do this installation. Thanks.

      Thanks for the feedback! I went to eTrailer.com and then searched by vehicle type. The Tekonsha T-One kit with seven-way connector is the first thing that pops up.

    Why does the OEM kit have you remove all yhe interior and third row seat?

    • @aaronvienot
      @aaronvienot  2 місяці тому

      I am not familiar with the Honda OEM kit you describe, but it is possible some of the rear interior would be removed to install the trailer hitch receiver, and ideally, the trailer wiring kit would be installed at the same time. But since the wiring may not be required for small accessories such as cargo baskets and bicycle carriers, some owners will have a hitch receiver installed but skip the wiring. That was how our Pilot was equipped when we bought it used. I then added the wiring kit as shown in the video.

    What aftermarket kit is that? Been struggling to find one that fits 2012, the only one I've found so far says only for 09-11 pilot and 17-21 Ridgeline. I'm a little lost!

    • @aaronvienot
      @aaronvienot  2 роки тому

      I got mine at eTrailer.com (no affiliation, just good service in my experience). Start with the vehicle selector at the top of the page, after that you should see "Custom Fit 20XX Honda Pilot Accessories" with a number of choices. One of the first should be "20XX Honda Pilot Trailer Wiring."

    • @aaronvienot
      @aaronvienot  Рік тому

      Is it possible you have a trim line that did not include the factory trailer pre-wiring? Check with your local Honda dealer to confirm the options list associated with your VIN. Also, did the vehicle ever take accident damage to the left rear quarter and possibly the damaged harness was not replaced? In that case, you'll need the replacement wiring harness section from a Honda dealer or from an auto salvage yard.

      eTrailer.com, although any other dedicated supplier of trailers and related kit should have options.

    THE DUST COVER!!!
    youtube won't let me paste pics, so I'll try to explain it here.
    The factory plug (with cover) is held in place by a clip. Pull that clip out so the connector hangs free. The clip that you pulled out is held in place by another clip. Lift up on THAT clip (I used a small screwdriver) and remove the hold-the-plug-in-place clip from the plug.
    The cover will slide right out. Connect the factory plug to the trailer light plug cable, THEN slide the hold-the-plug-in-place clip back into the connector.
    Snap the clip back into the frame under the bumper, aaaaaaand yerdone.
    P.S. Thanks a $#!+ load for now making me realize the wheel on my spare is horribly rusted and needs to be replaced.

      I haven't had a chance to test it on a 7-way trailer, but AFAIK there's no reason why it shouldn't. Got any experience with a setup that failed?

    i can’t get my cap ofd

    • @aaronvienot
      @aaronvienot  2 роки тому

      Which step are you at? Is this the dustcap on the 7-way inline connector below the bumper? If so I'm not aware of a magic solution for that one, you just got to keep working at it. A touch of penetrating oil around the edge might help, and maybe warming it up with a hair dryer.
