This is just absolutely amazing. Let’s Active are one of my favorite bands, and they are sooooo underrated. Although, much like Big Star, they are now a musician’s type of band, as in, a lot of their fans are musicians. They are a goldmine of inspiration, even 37 years later. Wow. Thank you, Mitch. ✌️😎🤘
MTV at its cutting edge best...Easter Dixon at his Drive In studios...honestly this version of new wave/alt is really just 60s surf /garage rock gone to college right? Fantastic times...
@@GrimKardashian LOL ..resorting to a Winger comment? i'm so offended :)) actually Kip, Reb and Rod would be a pleasure to hear after listing to this nonsense. Eric was way too FN good for this. I should know He was in my sister's band in 1982 and they played the W.S. coliseum.
Yes, thanks so much for archiving and sharing this!!! Just stumbled across this while also discovering the Fleshtones for the first time! This kinda stuff needs to be saved so that others can experience what the underground music scene used to be...well done!
Well it's just so sad that we didn't see the whole song of "Shakin' Street" because I was just getting into the groove when the editor cut it off. The "Blue Line" instrumental is a very nice compensation though.
+Johnny Canucklehead Yes, this the one and only Peter Z...saw the Fleshtones so many times over the years.. fun bunch of guys cool band with fun music!! miss the cutting edge fun show!
+Notch Roberts I don't miss the show as I grew up in Canada and we didn't get that at all on Much Music as far as I remember. The Fleshtones I saw once at NYC's Danceteria June 21, 1983. I actually hated them when I saw them live. I'm sure I'd think differently now vs. the narrow-minded idiot I was back then.
+Johnny Canucklehead ohh geeze that is too bad they did not syndicate the cutting edge or have Canadian version I do recall MTV having shows or reports from other parts of the world..as far as the Fleshtones, they are still liked very much in Europe..they tour over there often, garage music has had a big revival..over there. We just saw them last summer in Rehobeth beach de. They still rocked the house I should post the video I took that guitar player still jumps around the room as he plays live too crazy..haaa
+Notch Roberts Ah, such is life. We had our own shows and our local Nite Dreams had tons of cool videos back then. As far as the past, I leave it there. Good on any old band making money now but I'm more into the NOW and always have been. Check out the Raveonettes and Allah-Las from today.
I miss this band and listen to them several times a week as I loved their music.
What's so sad is MTV used to show really cool stuff like this. Not anymore
As soon as MTV got rid of this for 120 minutes, the game was over.
Classic! Joining Mitch and company here is guitarist Tim Lee of The Windbreakers from my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi.
Thank you for posting this! I remember watching this back when. Rest in Peace, Faye Hunter.
Mitch Easter was on the verge of becoming a huge producer in the 1980s.

Every Dog Has Its Chair
Big hair for everybody
I saw Let's Active at The Russel House,( USC Columbia,SC ) December 1985. I discovered Big Star that same year. Mitch Easter is such a cool rock star.
This is golden.
So much charm with hooks and gorgeous chords to match...the music of Lets Active puts the vulgarity of todays indie rock to shame.

Great segment! With the great Don Dixon, Mr. "Praying Mantis" himself! 😃👍
Man, I miss the Let's Active days in W-S!
if u mean Winston Salem this is what ruined WS this shit sucks And Eric what were u thinking!?
@@loumason6120 Smooth brained take. Go listen to Winger.

@@loumason6120 Okay, bitter old man. Go call Eric and tell him that.
OMG!!!!!!! I had totally forgotten about this show! Peter Zaremba!!!!!
Nicole Gasparini I would like to know if the show ever was released on DVD. Wouldn't that be great,?

Did anyone else besides me get Don Dixon's solo album, Most of the Girls Like to Dance But Only Some Of The Boys Like To?
I just bought this on Mp3va per your recommendation. Whata great find, thank you! It sounds like the love child of Joe Jackson and Marshal Cranshaw!
Bought it when originally released. Love it.
My friend had it, but sadly I can really only remember "Praying Mantis" from it. Great song though :)
It is now called FIDELITORIUM RECORDINGS
KERNERSVILLE, NC
Love this band!
This is just so great. And yeah, Easter Records!
Easter, what a mensch
This is an amazing video.
Cool as heck! Recorded there around that time.
Mitch Easter RULEZ!!!
Best episode of mtv cribs ever

Is Drive In Studios still around on 2016?
Nice MC5 cover!
Excellent
Does anyone know what the song is they are covering at the beginning?
“Shakin’ Street” by (I think) MC5
That's a much bigger garage than I had pictured!
Wow, i was there...ha
Good thing Dixon was out in the yard.
What is the deal here? Isn't that the Fleshtones singer popping up at the mic on the right?
