@@isaacmedina6403 you can get a protune even with no hard parts installed ( i.e. intake/jpipe). My local Subaru shop, and many others, have tuned a completely bone stock 22 to about 300hp/350tq on 93 and 340hp/400tq on e30 blend. You can get a protune any time. Now if you plan on buying parts like the intake/jpipe then you will need a protune before you can use them. So if you plan on buying parts it's best to wait till you have them to get the protune. Or you'll pay for the tune on a rock then pay again after you get parts.
I'm glad you were able to avoid the Mexican Federales this time and get some good races in. That blue STI sounds....Ominous I think best describes it. Downright wicked in your recording. You gave him a good run 👍 With your up coming pro tune I think you might just have the edge over this STI.

So this is an argument that I have heard a lot over the years. This is my second Subaru and I'm part of a group of people who have owned dozens of Subarus over the past two decades. I don't believe that any car can be excluded from going fast in a straight line. Subarus are designed to do a bit more. Be more of a jack of all trades, but that does doesn't mean that they can't drag race. As for racing on the dirt they can most definitely do that but they have to be equipped for it. Just like driving in the snow, I wouldn't do it on snow tires. I would want to be properly equipped. But just like in a drag race I would want to be properly equipped there as well upgrading the clutch. Getting good tires. I respect your opinion and do agree to an extent. I just feel this statement how Subarus were designed for something else isn't completely accurate.
@@HeavyMetalWRX I'm just surprised at how many people buy these but have never driven fast off-road before. I find driving on a dirt track/course much more fun. Drag racing is fun as well. When I say designed I mean that you can buy/build faster street cars but you would hard be pressed to find a vehicle more capable in the dirt than a WRX. Such a good value IMO
@@Holtenstein I couldn't agree with you more. One of the first things I did when I had my 2021 WRX last year. Was it snowed probably 2 weeks into ownership and I had snow tires on and I was out there and the very first video I made on UA-cam for my car was me doing donuts in the snow and I had an absolutely great time. Then after that I was just driving around town in the snowy roads just to really experience how good the all-wheel drive was. I definitely want to go on a dirt track with this car and really feel everything that it can do and we actually have a dirt track out here and I'm looking forward to it this spring. Getting some good tires and going out there and just really giving it everything I can so I can see what the car can give back.

If you get the chance, set your AP to monitor the MAF g/s. I’m curious how much airflow your engine is consuming. It’s a decent indicator on how much power the engine is making.
@@0Camus0 Use Maf g/s divide by 0.8 as one reference. Say 270g/s = 337 crank hp. This is just an estimate, lots of variables and be introduced. Aftermarket intakes, improper adjustments on custom maps.
Awesome video man, I liked that it had lots of runs of different types. But coming from a previous 2018 STI owner, his car MAYBE made 310whp.. but I’d guess closer too 300whp.
Thanks so much! It's hard to tell power wise because he was using the MAP Stage 2 ots map. The '22 is pretty quick so if it was 300hp I would have overtaken him. We are going to race again since I am protuned now. On 93 I make 321/360 whereas on the ots I made 290ish/310. I make 362/374 on e40 but that's not much of a race now 🤣

I went back to owning an older STI, grabbed me an 06! The newer ones just aren’t as raw feeling to me. Hopefully Subaru learns and builds of this new WRX to make an even better STI. It’s been long overdue for a refresh.
It is considerably quieter but yes...it still exists. It's definitely quieter than the '21 WRX. That onne with my muffler delete my passenger had to speak significantly louder while on the highway 🤷🤣

The VB held it's one even being down a few horses. This Wednesday I'm getting my protune and we will race again. Although it will be a different result 😁. When I picked up my wrx I asked dealer if I needed to break in engine and he replied no need actually drive it like you stole it, which I did quite often to red line . Car done now 4000 km and I tell you it drives better and better
That’s definitely not whp, With just and intake and downpipe. With intake, inlet, injectors, rails, lines, pump, regulator, downpipe, catback, and intercooler these sti will make about 340whp on pump gas. Because that as much as the stock turbo can make.
Well...yes and no. The MAPerformance OTS maps are higher than Cobb OTS. All those mods you posted would get you over 340whp. My '21 WRX had only an intake and jpipe and I was at about 310whp with a MAP tune where as a lot of my cobb OTS friends were usually at 270-280. Same with the STi. Of course we have no Dyno to prove it. Only thing I can point you to is Cobb and MAP website where they have their charts listed for the maps and stage kits. This STi was just their stage 2 kit which lists the power at 330whp. There is still a HP/tq difference. Once it's comparably equipped we are going to do a round 2 and that will be interesting. I get protuned January 12 and it'll be making at least 60 more hp and almost 80 more tq.
At the end of the day without launch control the WRX could get the jump on the STi. During a roll the extra horsepower and torque really let the STi stretch it's legs. If you watched the video all the way through you saw both cars had high points and low points. Reducing the entire video to your 6 words really does it a disservice to others. 🤷♂️

As a Multiple Subaru WRX/STI owner I prefer to race in the dirt. It's much more fun and honestly more what it was designed for.

Maperformance makes the claim of 330whp they lower the boost to make more power but I am going to put it on a dyno to see how accurate the claim is.

Wrx have the longer gears sti have short gears once the sti hits third gear that’s and fourth that’s the sti longest gear back to fifth gear is short
