  • I converted this van for my friend
    over the last month.
    This was my first build and
    took me about 400 hours start
    to finish.
    Cost Break Down
    :
    Solar/Batteries ~$4500
    Building Supplies/Tools ~$8000
    Electronics (Heater,Fans,Fridge, etc.) ~$2500
    Misc. ~$1300
    Total Cost: $16,274.79
    I didn't know going into this project how long it would take or really how much it would cost so I wanted to put that information out up front if you're considering a van build.
    LOWER COST?
    there is definitely ways to get the cost down if you are patient and hunt for deals, use cheaper materials, purchase a smaller battery bank, have a good workshop and don't need to buy a lot of tools.
    ADDITIONAL EXPENSES?
    we didn't add a shower, hot water heater, water tank, air conditioner, composting toilet as the owner plans to work from the van in cities around America mostly and will shower at the gym/ use public restrooms (camping 5gallon bucket toilet for emergencies). those are extra expenses that you may also consider

    What a clever idea to put cushion on the back door panel. Cuz we all know you will lean against it when you are on the bed chilling. You won't need any pillow you can put your back on the door and it will be cushioned.

    Nice job! Great to see your skills outside of the circle! I worked with my daughter on an entire Bluebird Bus conversion. That was a major deal.

    Nice carpentry skills, big guy. Working with curved walls is tough when they're made of wood; waaay harder in an empty van space.

    Good to see, how you made it.
    And this wool for isolation works also. You don`t need Armaflex.
    Also the kitchen on the left side. So you have more free space at the side door on the right side. Free space is very important.
    I would add some side windows. But so you have more stealth mode.
    Greetings from sw-germany (middle europe)

    I love this conversion but I don’t know if you would consider making a cover door to cover the garage to make it look clean when the garage door is open. Just a thought 😅. The top roof maybe have better light coming through with max fan or a sky light on the roof where the office desk is for air circulation as well. 😊

    Pretty crazy how much of a cozy space you can get for the price of a used car.

    ... No sound deadening ... No moisture barrier togeteher with rockwool and insufficient venting is a nogo ... B U T : high voltage cabeling unprotected over ridges is ridiculous dangerous ... (... isn't there a 3,5-ton limit in USA?) .. But nice rainbow LEDs ...

    bro, awesome build, but why closing out all the windows? you need some natural light in a living space, you could've put all type of courtains for privacy like you did in the front, what a pity!

    • @LifeofJY
      @LifeofJY  2 роки тому +2

      I used 120v natural light LED lights in the ceiling for a bright output to help my friend get at least simulated day light while inside. His main priority was privacy and he wanted no one to know anyone was inside the van since he plans to travel around the US in cities and continue to work remotely. The cool thing is, in your van you can keep the windows, this is just what we did for a stealth van build.

    You guys didnt use sound dampening.
    Was it a decision of yours ? And why ?

    • @LifeofJY
      @LifeofJY  2 роки тому

      yeah I considered it but didn't for a few reasons. there was some sound dampening strips that were already installed from the factory so I didn't think more would help much, plus I figured insulation against the walls would also stop the walls from rattling and dampen the noise. also they are only to make it more quiet while driving and he is traveling solo in the van so doesn't need it to be more quiet in the back while he's driving.

    Where’s the toilet?

    • @LifeofJY
      @LifeofJY  2 роки тому

      He’s traveling through cities for his trip so he’s using stores and the gym for the toilet. But he has an emergency 5 gallon bucket and a “toilet seat lid” plus a sink and grey water tank for #1

      @LifeofJY  2 роки тому

      The van is staying mostly in the city so the main toilet is the gym and stores But for emergencies or remote locations there is a bucket with bags and a toilet seat + the sink as a urinal if needed

    what about mold between the wall and insulation

    • @LifeofJY
      @LifeofJY  2 роки тому +1

      I left holes in the walls for moisture to hopefully escape, the insulation says it resists moisture, the propex heater blows out dry air so it also hopefully dehumidifies the air in the van. Also no air conditioning so hopefully that helps prevent the walls from forming condensation. I did consider it so now hopefully it holds up 🤷🏻‍♂️

    That's _really_ nice, but it needs some plants, or pictures/posters. I love grey; it's a nice, clean colour. But this decor is just _too_ grey, even for me.

      Seems like he is an online streamer so makes sense that he wants privacy and kind of secrecy as well and of course the dim light feel for better picture quality during streams.
