Hi Mike. It's awesome how your son is so interested in farming. He's gonna be a great farmer some day. It's great that you take him along with you to teach him and it instills a great work ethic too.
Thanks Mike !! We had a 78 4040 without a cab we bought new that was a do everything tractor and it ran 115 ho on the dyno !! Loved that tractor !! We also had a 4240 with cab !!
Usually the beginning of spring time right before spring tillage we will change the oil in the tractors. It all depends on the tractor and how much they have been used. Usually in the winter we aren't using that many tractors. With the equipment it depends on the equipment and how long we are using it
I have a small dairy milking 12 cows right now have around 40 acres corn every year and will have 30 acres of oats next year and bale about 200 acres of hay. Really like your channel
I plan on it. I go every year with the exception of last year when they cancelled it. I try to make it up there for multiple days so I can meet people and see all the equipment. I really hope they have it this year. I try to go up and Fridays and Saturdays but as the date gets closer I will say on a video what days for sure
That is awesome we go Saturday and would like meeting you. We started following you after Grumpy Farmer recommended you. We have really enjoyed your channel.
@@NYCountryGirl Thats awesome! I'm glad you enjoy the channel and I'm going to have to thank Andy for recommending the channel. Definitely stop me and say hi if you see me up there
Hey Mike. You can be happy .that you have some tractors on the farm. It does not matter .if you had 300 acres field work or 1000 acres .your family do all the tractor work and harvesting selfmade ! We have a dairy farm with 222 acres and we have John Deere 920 .1030 .2040 with a frontloader from alö . The ww have a John Deere 6110 .6620 and 7800 . The 2040 .6110 and 6620 buyed we originally new. The little jd920 buyed i 15 years ago with 7500hours for 1300 and the jd1030 12 years ago for 2500 Euro . The jd 920 is only for inspektion drive and driving cows from pasture to the freestyle barn to daily milking . The 7800 buyed i 7 years ago with 4250 orginial hours for 30000 Euro. We have only grassland no corn or grain . Its always nice to see your Videos from farming in the USA .where the the farm similar is then in Germany.. Best greetings to you and family from east frisia in north west germany !!!
Enjoyed the video Mike!. You do a real good job explaining what youre doing and why. Small farming operations like yours are the backbone of this country. Imop.. keep up the good work buddy. And thanks for answering my question 👍👍👍
Mike I'm enjoying the responses to all the questions. Thanks got this and thanks for all the other great videos. Hope you and your family have a good Christmas!
Thank you Ames. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos and I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too and hopefully it doesn't get too cold and snowy for you up your way!
Well done on another great video. Plenty fire wood for this winter to then ? I must remember and video our stone/rock fields for you to compare. Stay safe Mike 🏴
Great job Mike. The way you take the time to explain what your doing, how your doing it and why you do it that way or don't do it with a piece of equipment that's way to expensive for a smaller dairy farm to justify spending money on is real. No B.S. In your channel. If people knew how bad the dairy farmer gets hosed they wouldn't say things like you gotta get this or buy one of those. The inputs alone are gone sink some guys this year. Here's to better times ahead for the dairymen
Sealstore vs harvestore? What's the difference? I have two of each in a mile.. Both have one for haylage 20 x80 and both have a 18 or 20 x 60 for high moisture with roller mills at the base then conveyed to TMR and it's fast enough for those guys.. You can't get an opinion of either which unloader is best
I've never used or really been up close to a harvestore. I've basically only used the Sealstor. Basically the main difference is the harvestore had the goliath unloaders and the sealstor had the laidig unloaders. The goliath unloaders were the chain style that you would have to long arm if there was an issure were the laidig is an auger style. my dad went with the sealstor silos back in the day because he didn't want the goliath unloaders and liked the laidigs better
@@mikep7810 yes,I remember short arming then long arming and big $.. Are the sealstores augers maintenance friendlier? Lots of poured cements here as well.. As well as bags.. A few bigger outfits have pits but no one here has drive overs...no one big enough.
Nice job on this video Mike I know it's not easy answering all the questions and then editing the video together with the footage for the answers etc. Came out really good, and there were some great questions. Take it easy man
Thank you Adam. I'm glad you thought it turned out well. I didn't want to put out a video of just me rambling so I thought putting in the field clips of what I was talking about would be a good idea
Thanks mike, missed my question but i am sure you will reply, how are the milkprices? Overhere they are going up real fast , but so is all the feed and fertilizer ,greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Yeah thats the catch 22 of it all Menno. They may rise a little but when you see what feed, fertilizer, fuel, equipment and parts are going for, its crazy
Mike Thanks for taking time for answering questions your so down to earth about things and just wondering what you guys do with manure when you can get in fields and see how you guys clean barn yards and inside the cow barn and heifer barn ? I would like to see what and how you do it thanks scooter
Thank you Scooter. We have a shed that is for manure storage that we pull up to with the manure spreader and spread into when we can't get out on to the fields. Here is a link to a video I did that shows the barn cleaner in the tie stall barn and cleaning out the free stall of the heifer barn. I also take some scoops of manure out of the storage to top of a load. Should answer all your questions. ua-cam.com/video/roT2eWqXq6E/v-deo.html
Thats a good question Devin. We basically have one, is the way I look at it. The 4020 was around 90-100 HP with a 404 engine. Our 4040 has the 404 in it and is running around 100 hp. The 4020 is a little lighter especially with the 4040 having a cab but pretty much same type of tractor
Thats good. I don't ever want to get anyone's name wrong. I'm glad I got it right. Yes after high school I went to college for 2 years and got an associates degree
Mike great video as always i do wish you would show more milking the cows we milked for years we miss it do you and your brother leave on the family farm

Merry Christmas
Thank you Tim. Merry Christmas to you too
one nice thing about being a small farm shows in how friendly your cows are with you and your son you get to know your animals there not just a number
Good point Dana. Its nice to have him not be afraid of them and stand right there with them and love on them like that
Happy new year
Thank you John. Happy New Year to you too
Thanks for going thru the comments & showing things around the farm. 👍🏻👍🏻 MERRY CHRISTMAS to you & your family. 🎄

What's your schedule on maintenance as far as greasing and oil changes. How many hours for greasing tractors and equipment

Usually in the winter we aren't using that many tractors. With the equipment it depends on the equipment and how long we are using it

@@mikep7810 Thanks Mike. I really appreciate it.
Do y’all use atrazine in that part of us in newyork I’m from Alabama and I use it as a pre emergence for corn !
We don't use it. Between the manure and the fertilizer the corn does pretty good. Depending on the field we might spread some fertilizer before
Well done on another great video. Plenty fire wood for this winter to then ? I must remember and video our stone/rock fields for you to compare. Stay safe Mike 🏴
Thanks Ian. That should make some good firewood. Looking forward to seeing your stoney/ rock fields
Can you walk under your silos to get to the unloaders?
Yes there is a 4 foot crawl space that allows you to get to the lower part of the unloader

If you get rid of that tree you'll gain a few more bushel of corn 😆
We have a lot of tree work to do up there this winter. One of those jobs that have gotten away from us

So how bout this... if U know where a 7810 is maybe U can take along a camera and show us what U r liking about it.
I'll have to do that sometime
How many cows to you milk? Also how many cows do you have all together?
We milk 50-60 cows. Probably around 120 cows total with young stock and dry cows

I didn't even think about that Frank. Thats a good point. I should have clarified a little more
