“What about that unicorn that tried to destroy equestria?”
*everyone stares at Starlight*
*episode ends*
but she successfully destroyed equestria
“Hey celestia.... *DO SOMETHING*” absolutely loved that part
Well Celestia stop the other rulers from getting into a fight, that could count as something.
I was referring to the moment where the rules were threatening neighsay and the reason why Celestia just stood there is because she wanted Twilight to advocate for herself since this was her school and even then, she did stand up for her at the last second.
Honestly, I don't mind her doing nothing there. :P
Celestia, who banished her sister to the moon for thousands of years and lifts the sun everyday, can't work up the courage to tell one pony to stfu. She can honestly make him dissapear and people will assume he ran off. She's a goddess. But instead she's just gonna stand there and let that unicorn start a war.
I didn't mean they view her as a god. I mean she has enough power to be feared like one. I agree with you, she is very respected which is probably why people are not saying "Wow, our leader is a giant horse that sucks at protecting us".
It kind of feels like she is Princess Peach and Twilight is Mario (minus the romantic feelings Mario has). Twilight always has to bend over backwards to save the day but Celestica will always be the respected face of the kingdom.
I agree. Quite a few shows have "forgotten" previous explanations for the sake of plot.
@@Catgirljs247
Are you agreeing with yourself?
@@Catgirljs247 what do you mean minus the romantic feelings
@@belugaval144 They mean minus the romantic feelings.
"Do you even have a teaching license? Can you even teach a nebulous concept like friendship?" When your royalty, you can teach whatever you want.
" Pinkie you can't have weapons in school what do you think this is the United States"
Shots fired
"YES THATS THE PROBLEM!"
Read the description
Now i'm imagining columbine but in 1600 with fucking blackbeard blasting a kid with a flintknock pistol and cannons. Yes i am a terrible person thank you for asking.
What's really funny is that a lot of modern public schools actually let the teachers teach however they want in the classroom. As long as they follow the general curriculum, but they do have free reign in their classroom. At least, in America they do. This is such an extreme, its unheard of to me.
It even happens in College. Seriously, my Auto Tech class only buys the textbooks as a formality. Most of our study material is either online, provided by manufacturers, or both.
I have a better idea! starlight gets sent to the friendship dungeon, spike is the guidance counselor, and the school has the residents of the town work as cooks, janitors, and teachers.
That even further cements lily's statement that starlight has no personality and is a glorified writers pet.
Well Brain, what are we gonna do tonight?
Same thing we do every night, Pinkie - TRY TAKE OVER THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM!!!
The line "hey, celestia, DO SOMETHING" had me laughing so hard
but....why is twilight worried about the EEA rules when shes a princess, that studied under celestia....and has studied alot of magic
...and is most likely above the EEA itself
deathxanamon exactly, shes the upmost high ruler and final choice maker. Celestia had to appoint and approve those rules and ponies in the first place. how else would they have gotten jobs on the equestria board of education?
shes also treated as a god and gods have even more power to make final choices. twilight is chosen by, friends with, and shares similar status with this said god yet some mean unicorn is somehow one to be feared.
After all these years Celestia is still useless. Why do the writers put so much working onto Starlight?
You know, I'd say the seating in a school like twilights would be VERY important. Mostly if it was completely random seating.
In a school of friendship, what better way to make friends than sit next to a stranger, with group projects of people near you?
This is TWILIGHT we're talking about.
That fact that Neighsay is given such a villanious portyal in this episode annoys me considering he was 100% in the right until he started sprouting racism and even then considering the history of non pony creatures in this show that's kind of understandable. It Certainly doesn't help that a later episode(Non-Compete Clause) that furthers shows how right he was.
By the way it was confirmed by someone on show staff that Smolder is a girl.
The more MLP I watch the more Im convinced “friendship” is a cult and the re-education school doesn’t help.
I hate it when entire plot conflicts only exist due to Economy Casting. The intended "oppose unjust authority" Aesop is completely undermined by the fact that *The Mane Six Are Not Qualified Teachers.* Twilight having adventures shouldn't be an issue because there should be a deputy headmistress whose entire job is running the school when Twilight and her friends are off saving the world. Celestia's school should have a deputy headmistress whose entire job is running the school when Celestia is busy being a head of state. The only reason the Mane Six have to do everything is because, despite all reason, no characters who are actually qualified exist.
Why does the villain look like dr strange
The coat needs to be longer, he needs a bread not goatee. But he does not act like him who’s really chill and strict.
he's more snap than anything.
Funny enough, he's voiced by Maurice LaMarche, who did voice Dr Strange in the 1996 Hulk animated series.
So I just finished the season. Its so bad. They sent a CHILD to tarturus and let A TIME TERRORIST *FUCKING SCOTT FREE*
I liked the idea of a bunch of different species becoming friends because they’re children and they’re adorable babs.
And the school board
Oh god. Why does it look like that. What. No Megan stop
Sometimes seating does make a difference. Some people are extremely disruptive when placed together, some people benefit from being close to the teacher, and some people are more attentive when placed closer to the board. That shouldn't mean everyone in the class should get assigned seats, but certain seating choices do benefit certain students. It's really the teacher’s call.
PINKIE AND THE BRAIN okay finally got it
I like starlight but god it is amazing when lilly is talking about her.
The dragon's a girl. Much to all of our surprises.
Ghostwriter , was that not exceedingly obvious
I knew she was a girl, when she was introduced.
I really can’t wait to see your reaction to Starlight’s well... everything, in the episode I’m currently forgetting the name of with Cozy Glow in it.
"Seating in the classroom has no effect on the overall quality of the education"
Unless you let best friends sit next to each other. Then they will talk. And the kids in the back will not pay attention. Any teacher I've had has only been able to last a few DAYS without assigning seating for at least ten children.
I wonder... if he’s gonna be the bad guy...
hes just misunderstood.... u dun geddit
but honestly i'm super bothered at the fact that twilight not once decides to call out that mean unicorn on his very obvious racism? like the fact that the school doesn't follow the official guidelines is just a convenience for him, he just really doesn't want other races in equestria and tbh celestia not doing shit could be seen as her trying to let Twilight handle this on her own (as to not give off the impression that twilight is incapable of doinng stuff alone) but I'd at least expect Celestia to get annoyed at the freaking racist -w-'
It's like y'know how the antagonist was a goverment official in a society that is supposed to be run by a monarchy, making Celestia the highest authority and therefore meaning that official was under and obligation to abide by her laws. This would mean if she'd of just told him to fuck off and that Twilight can run her school how she likes, there would be no problem. Hell, TWILIGHT is a princess too so she's also a higher authority then him - as not only a princess but the Princess of FRIENDSHIP why isn't it that she couldn't of just told him to back off cause it's a FRIENDSHIP school after all, something she is (somehow) in charge of? Oops. I forgot the awnser is "because plot."
Space Wed If the government was a monarchy, why bother getting Luna and Twilight to hear out what the other nations have to say?
As for Twilight, it's already been said how crazy she gets at the idea of questioning authority, even while being authority herself. It would be even less likely for her to stand up against authority, as she only did so when she was actually looking at the situation and realizing that even if the chancellor has a high position when it comes to schools, the school that the issue is over is for friendship, and if she chooses to, seperate from just like how royalty can. Twilight has never dealt with as much as stress as running a school because a lot of things go into running a school, even with how small it started out(season 4 states how she does very little and season 7 has one episode show her doing princess duties, which makes Celestia and Luna do the majority of the work as Princess Spike shows that she basically only solves relationship issues, making the only big issues happening with the dragons, griffons, and ponies as the yaks are assigned to Pinkie, and later on in Triple Threat, giving the relationship with the dragons to Spike. You could say the hypogriffs are added to that list later on, but judging how Celestia already had some relationship with them, it would most likely go to her as she has some experience to restart with. So the only stress Twilight would experience comes from the ponies as even if the griffons do interact, it's very minimal)
Who wants to bet that the Guy is going to actually destroy Friendship or something like that.
Lily, does it seem like a future Palpatine situation for Chancellor Neighsay or not? Cause the way he storms off in a portal of blue fire seems very Palpatine-esque
Naysay only existed so the story could have an arc of "Twilight was right the whole time and shouldn't answer to anybody."
Naysay's complaints about Twilight's sloppy management were completely warranted and the episode only threw his racist tirade in there as an excuse for why Twilight shouldn't listen to him.
It's all another example of the writers forcing their ideas to work, rather than writing ideas that actually work.
Ahh. I see, so not Palpatine then. Understood. Thanks Lily
Yeah, I heard the words 'Guidance Counselor Starlight' and simultaneously spit out my drink and laughed out loud at that. Seriously, STARLIGHT is the guidance counselor? That's a worse idea than when Norman Osborn became Director of Shield
It's treason then. (Naysay proceeds to light up his horn and spin attack at the Mane heroes. Starlight is the first to fall)
I don't remember the EXACT comic arc, but yeah, Norman became the director of Shield and formed his own 'Dark Avengers'. He actually wore an Iron Man suit, the Iron Patriot. I don't remember if he was still suffering with is Gobby personality, but I DO remember seeing that thinking that it was the WORST IDEA the Marvel Universe could make. Not cause it was a bad story arc but because it's NORMAN OSBORN AS THE DIRECTOR OF SHIELD!!
I would love to hear "IN OUR SCHOOL" full version.
“Didn’t you hear princess Twilight? The secret to good mental health is to just decide to get over your issues and do literally nothing else. Just look at princess Luna, cowering in the corner and… Luna, Luna no, LUNA. LUNA YOU PUT THAT KNIFE DOWN. PUT THE KNIFE DOWN AND BOTTLE YOUR PAIN.”
Best quote.
Avoided leaks/clips leading up to this episode, but had seen images of Smolder. Wondered why there was so much confusion, my first guess was female...then I heard her voice. Hearing that alongside an animatic would warrant confusion
I loved when they threw out the rule book. I’m a teacher and trust me we’d get a kick out of throwing out the rules. Honestly, it’s so silly. If they could ignore the rules-why didn’t they do that to begin with? Celestia’s role makes this even more confusing.
7:29- *"My Little Pony: Friendship is casual racism!"* ❤️
Wait, did you sincerely JUST NOW realize that 😲? That's literally been (not so subtly) present in *FiM* since 2010 😂. It merely became more obvious over each season, as more species were introduced.
I fucking love Yona. She's a idiot and i'm a idiot so i identify with her spiritually. She is so precous and my favorite character next to chrysalis and cadence.
Oh god it's Dr. Strange and Professor Snape's love child
So Twilight is going to have a slightly dangerous school, with minimal diversity, an incompetent guidance counselor, teachers who think they know what they're doing, that teach unhelpful things, completely ignore the school board, and to hell with the consequences. So instead of presenting a solution to a current problem in educational systems (or at least acknowledging it) this episode gives it bright colors and friendship and then presents it in a way where it's a good thing. To hell with that.
That is a valid point and I thank you for bringing it up, but a student that wants to go to a certain school will not learn what they need to learn if the staff is still incompetent. I had an awesome English teacher in high school and she was a great friend to many but I did not learn a damn thing in that class, she was an awful educator. Instead of teaching she had us read lots of literature, some assigned and some of our choice. Didn't explain style, formatting, syntax, author's insight to creativity, or even talking about the author,. I just read a book and gave a summary. Learning requires reading, but reading alone is not learning.
You know, the "The Greater Good" line from Hot Fuzz isn't meant to be sinister. It's meant to make a lot of people with power look stupid. The people saying the line killed a bunch of people for completely silly reasons (Poor Grammar, Bad Acting, A Nice House that Didn't Match, Street Performance, etc). So, leave it to comedic hacks to try and twist the line into something sinister.
Yes.
Why a School of friendship though? Why not a School of Magic? With all the Magical threats that happen half the time, it seems like a better idea. And Friendship is only one of the many kinds of magic, so they could still teach students how to USE the Magic of Friendship, not teach them Friendship itself! Friendship isn't something you teach! And Have Spike or Fluttershy be Guidance counselor! Not Starlight. ( Who hasn't learned potato squat and is STILL prone to do reckless things!)
lily I get the slightest- just the slightest- hint that you hate this episode and season premise...
he ended up being both A and B
YAS! New Lily video, it's an amazing day now!
Thank god I’m not the only confused about Smolder’s gender.
i love this nonbinary representation i've been looking for for so long
2:22 fast forward and it was also A. You called the ending years before it happened
Having starlight as a councilor is like Hitler employing Umbrige as second in comant
7:20 that joke is amazing
He also looks A loooooot like Dr. Strange. Like.... A lot. Chancellor Neighsay was just an excuse to make your own Dr. Strange Pony, wasn't he Hasbro.
You really Celestia is capable of creating an education standard I’d be surprised if she could make toast
Smolder is Female.
Huh, I thought Smolder was a guy. That would make Young Six a gender-equal ensemble: 3 guys (griffon, dragon, pony) and 3 gals (yak, hyppogriff, changeling)
D- All of them
The "family guy" gag always get me
That description though.
A was also correct.
Tbh I feel as if all three options were correct in some way or another
Oh, what a relief! I was wondering if you would and yet, you did do In A Minute! I love you, you beautifully critical woman you!! Now, I can take my drink in peace!
Yeah... She does want them believe that private school is better
"you can't have weapons in school, where do you think this is, the united states?" ._.
Aaand the episode just spoiled the movie for whoever hadn't watched it yet when seeing this episode. Good job Hasbro!
Snape kills Dumbledore
Lily Orchard Snoke was murdered by Kylo Ren.
Also, just saying that something as small as a seating chart can be huge when necessary. Twilights questions aren’t dumb, but she needed to decide them for herself. Or let her teachers do so
I just hate it when people say they want more world building, just no, kids get really bored at that shit (you know, the target audience?)
The little girls I look after would rather watch the pretty alicorn lady shoot the big scary Tirek in Ponyville over some story about that bearded unicorn they don't care about go on a boring quest with the main characters to save some shadow creature from his dumb issues in a place they don't care about.
Kids like violence over useless crap that is pointless in the long run, do what the little kids like over what the rest want
Those two shows status quo?
I get what you're trying to get at, but when I get them to watch Avatar that's what the kids expect to see, they don't really expect that from watching MLP
If that makes sense?
Ah, execution of Seresh, makes good video a great video.
my exact reaction to smolder
Great vid ...Wait luna no no stay away with that knife
I love watching your videos xD they make me laugh and make me feel better.
Assigned seating. It’s a useful classroom management tool that provides order on day one.
When you get the chance may you please do a In a Minute for Can't go Back and A Single Pale Rose from Steven Universe?
I noticed that the outro is a little different now. I like it.👍
PS: The school is a bit dumb to my.
Twilight: *says her journey taught her about the threats outside equestria.*
Twilight: *opens a friendship school to teach kids to fight with friendship and not learn how to actually fight*
We need more of this!
Life is so grand, in our school!
We're always best friends here!
We are always in bliss,
And friendship makes us kiss- wait
I like this more then the actual episode
He can't be nakedly obvious he is wearing clothes!
At least it's not meant to mental hospital. Like that other score run by the students.
Breathe, Lily.
The whole "every creature" thing can be easily changed to everybody or every one
where did that spider get poofed to :(
deathxanamon gudbye spidey :"c
outside somewhere
D- Being voiced by the Brian
What bothers me most about Starlight is the wasted potential she had (yes I say had, at this late in the game anything newer besides enjoying board games and being a grown up angsty teen is too late by now). Any development on showing empathy, learning from mistakes, striving for compromise, any of those could have maybe helped after season 5's finale on into season 6 but it's too far gone. I really liked the opportunity of taking someone with aggression and control issues and helping to learn something, anything! Besides Twilight is the most super forgiving evar and will never let you down Starlight kiss kiss bwah. It kinda sucks, sadface.
Ja Bu A punishment would be proper for Starlight, but she nearly destroyed the entire world. As much as she deserves one, it would challenge their already small bond at the point of her reformation way too much so that the punishment fits the crime.
Of course it would be but the show writers aren't subtle about how much they like the character and it's certainly not likely they'll put in a punishment, even a retcon one in a flashback or something now. Plus they do still try to add lessons for younger viewers and an episode of Starlight getting some kind of reprimand, flashback or otherwise, for her wrongdoings would be far too late considering its season 8 now.
Hey Celestia...... DO SOMETHING! ONE OF YOUR PONIES IS ABOUT TO BE ATTACKED!
Neighsay’s ideas on education are completely correct and he wouldn’t be a villain if he weren’t a racist.
Technically, it was gravity and the sudden impact with the ground that shattered the Storm King, not the mane 6.
My main question is how did pinky make a cannon that small I know it's Pinky but still?
Coming up next time on My little Sith Lord the force is magic
2:14
All of the above?
All the info lily gave about teaching made me think she should be a teacher.
So I just gotta mention that the ending there was kind da predictable regarding the appointed government official storming off with no real objectives probably being due to celestia's incompetence bleeding into her appointment of those under her into positions in power. Also is celestia racist too, cause she didn't say shit to a representative of her nation making racist remarks to three separate rulers of other countries?
Now that you mention it, I'd like her back. But can we please have her shattered by love lasers like sombra after a changeling civil war? I think that'd be a cool finale. Or he'll, do the REAL kickass thing and bring Grogar back for the series finale. He's literally the most evil guy from any gen.
Wait wut link the info. I dont remember this being mentioned anywhere.
Ok but he didn't source anything either. In addition, I dont have any idea how they're going to work a necromancer into this new era of 'pls respect my sensibilities and dont do anything to anger anyone evar'.
Let me get some garlic sauce and call upon our lord and savior: REDEEMING THE VILLAIN
Because necromancy can Def be used for good
We know we wanted something different from "mopey drama queen" as a villain but this isn't a step in the right direction at all
I just realized that most of the MLP villains could have been thwarted with just a pinch of violence. Starting with the most obvious one, Chancellor Neighsay, Slap his smug ass in the face and tell him, "Man the f*ck up, you sissy." Think about the other villains, and the simpler solutions behind them, if there are any.
Just realized I haven't watched most of the show, so take what I say with a bit of salt.
I can’t tell if lily is saying classes should be 16 or 60 minutes.
*Psycho Mantis?*
Wait a second, why couldn't they have used Sky Star? Silver's adorable but she just feels like a carbon copy of her cousin.
I heard that Sky Star's voice actor was expensive, but maybe my information is not right.
Also during their free period the students come down to the friendship dungeon to brutally beat up starlight and throw rotten tomatoes at her through the cell bars, they also throw literal shit at her while wearing gloves of course.
Thank you! Someone finally agrees with me!
See it's all in good fun! lily would approve of the starlight hate!
Accreditation agencies aren't actually government bodies. They are voluntary membership "associations," typically based on a region or a profession (the AMA, ABA, and NAAB, among others, each accredits schools in its field) to which schools affiliate by paying dues and agreeing to submit to standards. Accreditation agencies work closely with government ministries/departments of education, because both are (theoretically) committed to high standards, and governments near-universally require their public schools to affiliate to an accreditation agency.
But when it comes to general education, accreditation by an agency is really just a marketing tool. For governments, requiring schools to be accredited sends a message to parents that the public schools are worth sending their children to. For private schools, accreditation is a means to attract tuition-payers who will be concerned about how their peers and prospective employers will view their degrees. In theory, you can get a high-quality education from a non-accredited school. (In practice, of course, any school worth its salt will have an accreditation because it's that valuable, unless they're eschewing accreditation for principled/ideological reasons. In which case you're likely drawing your student body from a pool of similarly-committed ideologues. Examples abound from across the ideological and quality spectrums: the SPD party school wasn't accredited; neither is Bob Jones University.)
Accreditation is somewhat more than a marketing tool for professional schools - there, it's more like a guild rule. You can't take the Bar exam or the USMLE without a degree from an ABA/AMA-accredited law/medical school (or without jumping through a similarly onerous hoop like a multi-year apprenticeship deemed equivalent to the usual course of study). This is one of many somewhat artificial barriers of entry into the professions, which are in place because unlike the general student body, we place a lot of trust in lawyers, doctors, dentists, architects, etc., and furthermore allow the professions to self-regulate to some degree (especially law).
Also, you certainly can teach social skills in a structured environment, and a laissez-faire attitude to the teaching of social skills (coupled with the leaving of such things to the shrinking religious schools) is one of the major things wrong with American education in particular. Other such elements: an ever-narrowing curriculum that pretends the humanities don't exist or are to be scorned; an increasingly-regimented testing regime; an overly-empowered administration that prefers labor discipline to teacher freedom; and a pathological aversion to raising needed revenue through taxation.
Have you read Fallout Equestria, and if so, what are your thoughts on it?
Note to self; if I ever plan on watching Season 8. Skip the premiere.
Coming from a teacher, your education comments are not correct. Seating, quizzing, testing, projects and numerous other seemingly small things are crucial to designing a class that functions well and allows for a variety of learners to engage meaningfully.
I think Lily is talking about various studies that add and/or disprove what you just said. Let’s go down the list of this hasty comment.
1. While seating is often said to be important, studies show that’s because of attention. Starting from the lowest bar, people sitting in the front are shown to do better just because they are closed and can be given more immediate attention. However, if a teacher puts in any effort at all and actively combats this, seating sort of becomes null as long as they remember to walk around and engage with the people in the back.
2. Lily never said quizzes or testing weren’t important. She said quizzes monthly and tests at the end of the quarter. You’re both right, they help students engage better, but relentlessly doing both to kids doesn’t. If you test and quiz multiple times within a weekly basis, kids will rush to memorize stuff they think will show up on the test so they get a good grade instead of actually absorbing it. This is commonly known as “flushing”, and it’s why a lot of kids can’t even remember what they just took a test on the minute it’s over. They didn’t learn it, they memorized it.
3. The success of projects is EXTREMELY contextual. You only have to search UA-cam for a second before you come across a horde of videos where kids say they hated projects because they got saddled with all the work. Projects help students that are already absorbing material reinforce it, but If a kid doesn’t care/isn’t made to care before it starts they’re going to dump it onto the least confrontational/smart kid/engaged kid. A lot of teachers write this off as them trying to reinforce leadership abilities like rallying, but That’s a hard concept for a kid with no prior experience to start using alongside a project they now have to work on (with a deadline!) without guidelines. Like, how are you supposed to use a skill if you barely understand what it is? Add in the fact that different rallying methods work different for different personalities and you have a disaster. I’ve never actually seen a teacher teach a kid how to “rally” after they complain about the rest of their team slacking off. Try just tell them to figure it out and that asking hem is giving up, despite asking an authority for advice on how to tackle a skill being the very definition of initiative.
As a severely handicapped student who mainly book learned because most of my teachers were making us do "Fun" projects and daily assignments rather than focusing on the core of: teaching, engaging, then testing, I can tell you those small things don't help "a variety of learners" they double down on the engagement of the "typical" students and leave those of us with learning disabilities struggling to keep up. All the teachers that I actually learned from rather than just barely struggling along from self research were the ones that focused on drilling an idea and making sure everyone comprehends it, then moving on to the next idea since we weren't wasting time.
This. Sorry for any spelling errors in my billeted list. I’m on my phone and I can’t edit.
My own personal two cents on the seating, sometimes children or people in general know what seating is best for them better than a teacher. I personally try to sit in the back, preferably by a window. This isn't so I can ignore the teacher or the lesson, but because I have ADD, acknowledge I have ADD and wish to be in the back where I'm not disturbing the teacher or class if I can't control my own impulsive to fiddle with something.
As for test, I do wish test I had when I was in school were more spaced out, cause I did preform a few times in flushing to appease my parent, only to forget half the stuff within the week after the test.
Where’s that Star Wars game clip from?
