Interesting fact about Zac Brown Band; I went to school with the drummer at Gardendale, AL. I was a few years older, but remember, in band, he was a kick it drummer!
I worked with a guy who went to school with Coy Bowles, we worked at a tshirt shop around the time they started to blow up. Because of his connection with Coy we ended up with the printing contract for their merch. Spent many a long nights there printing through the night because they were ordering thousands of shirts at a time, literally swinging by on their way to the next show to pick up the orders, and coming back 2 days later to do it again because they were selling so much merch. Ended up with a lot of ZBB t-shirts from their early days.
"Chicken Fried" is steak that has been dredged in flour and fried. Usually served with white gravy aka milk gravy that is the stuff of gods! You gotta try it sometime.

I never used to like country either but this “new” country is more like a mix of country and rock. I appreciate it so much more now. Some of the older songs from 50’s/60’s were sappy and maudlin. I love the way country is going now.

Never compromise your principles. It's better to be poor and sleep well than to own the moon and stress 24/7 about what may come back to bite you. It took me over 50 years to "make it to comfortable", and I wouldn't change a thing. On a side note, when this song came out it was stuck in my head for over a year. I would find myself singing, humming, or head bobbing to it without even realizing it. On another side note, have you learned how to swing dance? If you haven't, you should. It will MELT your wife. Chicken Fried Steak! YUM!
This is one of my favorite songs lyrically. Take the country out, and you still have a beautiful piece of writing most people can relate to. As for the career stuff…. In my experience, people look at careers to short-sighted. But in the long haul, actions that favor money over people often lead to a reputation for doing just that. What is your honor and reputation worth to you? People forget to factor that in. Age simply gives a different perspective, allowing us more glimpses of the big picture.

The voice you heard of the man calling out left right, was R. Lee Ermey a former Marine Drill Instructor. Also a former actor he was the DI in Full Metal Jacket and voiced Sarge in Toy Story and Toy Story 2.
Chicken fried could also refer to country or chicken fried steak and gravy with mashed potatoes. If you head South it's a must try. I live in a small town and I can't tell you the nights we just partied in a field with a bonfire, guys playing in a band and tons of food and desserts on tailgates. Dancing in the full moonlight. Good, carefree nights laughing and loving with friends.

This band is great & they have a lot of great music. Zac's voice is unique & he can make you laugh; he can make you cry & he can make you 'think'. 'Toes' with the original video is lighthearted like this one & is a lot of fun. ~ As for advice? There is an older country song by Aaron Tippin, called 'You've got to stand for something' & it tells you everything you need to know. You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. &' Whatever you do today, you'll have to sleep with tonight'. In your mind, you might feel like you are behind of where you would like to be financially, however, you have stood by your values & you haven't screwed anyone over, so you can look yourself in the mirror with a clean conscience. Your wife & girls can be proud of you and the honorable man you are & speak of you with pride. To me, that is worth everything & I hope my husband, children, grandchildren & now even my great grandchildren can always think of me with admiration. A priceless gift I cherish. Doing the 'right thing' is never wrong.
Saw them this past summer. They did a tribute to Robbie Robertson from The Band. Great show.
Grew up for the weekends. Spent most over with our uncle. Harvesting sugar cane, grinding it into juice and cooking it into real cane syrup. Not what is called cane syrup in stores. Still made in Patterson Georgia. Nothing better on a biscuit or real cornbread, no jiffy.

I first heard Zac Brown recently while playing James Taylor on my Alexa. The duet came on and I was immediately hooked on Zac and his band. It’s “feel good” music and I’m one who could care less about the genre of the music. He has a beautiful voice. As the other commenter suggested toes, colder weather, and also Bitter Sweet! If you have ever lost someone close, Bitter Sweet will definitely bring the tears in buckets. His band mate lost his mom and Zac also lost someone close.
Peace of mind means so much. I wanted my kids to be able to look at me and know that I didn’t lie, cheat or steal to achieve anything in life.. Material things are just that. They will come and go in your life. Self respect, once lost , do you ever get that back?
The cadence at the beginning and end is from the late great R Lee Ermey a real marine drill instructor before becoming a movie star in full metal jacket and other movies and TV shows

I love the song for many reasons. In addition to how fun it is to listen to and the smile it puts on my face, I love the focus on the simple things in life that, though simple, are most important. Being happy and grateful for those precious gifts of being loved and spending quality time with those who are most important and enjoying their company is something we can all aspire to.

If you ever get a chance to see them live, get your butt there and be prepared to have one of the best nights of your life. They are so versatile and will do other genres in their live shows as well. You wouldn’t expect it from a “country” band, but they do one of the best versions of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody that you will ever hear. 👍👍👍

I'm in Charlotte and they play this song at my son's Friday night football games. A couple thousand people all standing up singing it. Gives you a damn good feeling.

They were just here in Utah and my sister went to the concert. I was a little jealous. Zac Brown Band has tons of amazing songs.
This is just a great song. It is the greatest reminder of how we need to focus on the good things in our lives which isn't always easy, but there are always blessings to be counted.

With as many years under my belt. 2 things I've learned. If you are not happy with what you got. You'll never be happy with anything you get. Then the decisions you make today. You have to sleep with tonight. It took decades and more money than I can count to figure those out.

Chicken fried steak is Americas version of Wiener schnitzel a German tenderized and breaded piece of meat fried, fried food popular in the south as no refrigeration so meat would go bad , or off flavor wise so they fried it to cover up the taste

Hold on to that honor you have and treat your clients how you would want to be treated. Then you will that piece of mind. You won't be looking back at my age (70's) and regret selling your integrity. There were a couple of times in my career I sacrificed in order to hold on to my integrity and it was tough. I'm sure glad now I did.

I’ve heard this song a few times now and it just occurred to me the other day that he’s talking about chicken fried steak. I love it but don’t really see it on the menu here in California. That’s just as well, I guess, because it’s not exactly health food. But now I’m going to be thinking about it and wondering if it’s available nearby. 😋

Zac Brown band are such talented musicians. There is a video out on UA-cam where he collabs with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) live at the 2013 CMA Awards with the song "Day for the Dead." It's fantastic!
