- This video is a bit shorter than the others, but I think it's important to spend time on specific methods, so I think I'll be making more content with this format. I wanted to use the opportunity to both fix up my project from last time and talk about a grain filling method that doesn't require buying any actual grain filler. Hopefully you find it useful. Happy woodworking!!
Video where I actually made the tray:

Brilliant idea , i will have to try this now , love the video .
This method is similar to the first French polish procedure I learned, except shellac replaces the poly and diatomaceous earth provided the "grit." And, of course, elbow grease does the polishing. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Very helpful. Thank you!
That looks amazing!! Wild that you were able to get the wood looking like a chosen quality piece of lumber, I like the paint idea, it added some dimension an almost opposing texture to the rest of the tray.
Thank you! I really appreciate that
Hi, the tray looks excellent. I think the legs are great as they are and you should stick with them. For me the red is appropriate and definitely doesn't cheapen the overall item at all.
Keep up the excellent style and production, I love the videos 🎉
Thank you so much!
It looks fine. Very much improved. I've learned something new, thanks...😁
Thank you!
love the tray , brilliant .
Thank you so much!
It turned out great, love the colors
I think hiding is the wrong word, we always should make tye best from what we have (sustainability) and design plus finish is a great why to do so. Looking forward to future projects 💖
Thanks! And yeah, I totally agree. I first want to see if I can reuse anything before throwing it out or buying new material. Not sure if that's because I'm frugal or because I'm a tree huger, so I'll just say it's because of both, lol
Just curious, why didn’t you just edge band the plywood? It’s super cheap and easy to apply.
Interesting, am bookmarking. I use card scrapers instead of sanding, so if I get lots of tear out I might use this technique. Especially if it's plywood, since I might end up going through the veneer if I remove too much material. Plus I have lots of construction grade plywood to use up lol. As for the red, I like it. It does look like solid wood and it matches the pot and cushion.
Thanks! Let me know how your build turns out. The lower quality wood is definitely a bit harder to work with, but I also like it better because you get more of a glow-up when you finish the piece and look back at what you were able to build it from
Hals Wood Shop. New Subscriber. Great lesson on Finishing. Good for all Woodworkers. I must give it a try. Thanks for doing it on the Video. That is quite a workshop you share. Can you do a shop tour ?
Eees muy talentosa , new sub here 👍🏼
Do you think I can do this with stair treads?
Yup.
Hey Hallo es inspiriert mich immer es nach zubauen denn du baust immer so tolle Sachen ich bin nicht so gut wie du aber ich schau zu und lerne von dir liebe Grüße von Manfred 🤗🤗
paint legs completely red and give the plate an accent by painting just the upper edges red. maybe 3mm each. that way the underlying grain (which i believe you can see on the edges) is hidden as well
edit: dont color the braces between these legs
#0000 grade steel wool helps soften sheen of urethanes.
Oops, i probably should have mentioned what kind of steel wool because there is definitely a right and a wrong kind. Thanks for pointing that out
Lmao, the thumbnail. Completely normal and average way to sit at a workbench.
Unfortunately, completely normal thumbnails don't get as many clicks and comments. I don't make the rules but I also can't argue with results 🤷♀️
@woodificould Hah! You're not wrong. It made me chuckle, I clicked on the video, and now I'm commenting.
