Making a tincture out of horse/deer/cow hooves with glycerin or mineral oil works really well too

Funny, my gal owns several horses, has their hooves trimmed several times a year, her dog chows on the trimmings every chance she gets. I put a pound or so in a jar, just for my sets. I like the way you think 😉

Yes that's perfect. I might have to ask some of my friends who own horses to save the trimmings for me. That would save me the trouble of filing my own deer hooves.

Exactly. I also think a lot of the ingredients used in commercial baits and lures must be readily available in large volumes. Which deer hooves may not fit that requirement and therefore have never been commonly used.

I wonder if cow hoofs would work?

Yes I didn't know it at the time, but people have been using shavings from cow and horse hooves for a while. There are different ways to prepare them to get the most scent out of them like either letting them soak in water, or shaving them up and cooking them on an old outdoor grill.

Did if work? Results with the clipping vs without???

To be honest I didn't notice much difference. I would suggest charring the hooves on a grill first (many people do this), or let it soak in water for a while until a black tar like substance rises to the surface and use that in your lure. I didn't know of these methods before I made this video.

You could have ground them down in a spice grinder.
