I’m so glad to see someone put round-wound strings on one of these. I hate flat wounds on fretted bass guitars. It feels weird and it doesn’t sound good.
I was just gifted one of these along with a 1953 Fender Bassman from a family friend. Unfortunately someone painted the bass red and is missing the pick guard. Other than that I believe it to be all original but I’m not sure what to do with it. I’d love to restore it but don’t want to hurt the value any further. Any suggestions?
In my opinion this bass is for collectors. It sounds good, but it can't be compared even with Squier Precision bass with split pick up. You know this bass was made than Leo Fender improved it.If i must choose only one bass which i can have,it would be P bass or Jazz bass ,but never this one . If you are musical maniac who collect guitars or you have a dream to make guitar sellers rich than you can buy it...
One of the most ahead-of-its-time instruments, there is. I have an original Telecaster Bass which was essentially the same thing.
Beautiful. And thank god you had a proper bass amp around for the demo.
Although an improper bass player.
@@jeffreyjohn2037 Harsh. This guy did a perfectly fine bass demo. At least he didn’t roll off all the bass on the amp and start slapping.
Best sounding bass on youtube.

The P Bass is a piece of history. Whether you’re a split-coil P Bass fan, or a 50s P Bass fan, you’re gonna get the “workhorse” tone.
Great job Matt from Tom Weaver's wife Kathy! Really nice, clean sound. Will share with my brother who builds his own electric guitars.
I love the 1st gen P. Basses!
Wow! Even has some cool flame in the neck!
good mid response, it doesn't have that hollow sound that some later P-basses seem to get - it's the string-through design, yes?
Holy string misalignment!
Yo the intro is so sick!
Wow sound amazing
That's the sound
it might be the best sounding bass ive ever heard
Matt Nice Work! WooF!
Damn….

i think several million people would disagree
@yogsenforfoth5948: Finally someone who understands me! 🤗❤
You must be a fake like the clown playing.
This thing would sound awesome through a silverface bassman 100 with the pyramid cab. Pick bass heaven
Just great ❤️

Awesome bass! Quality video production! Could have messed with the tone though.. :(
The saddles are phenolic not Bakelite
Would've been nice to hear a famous bassline on this famous model.

Yummy 😋
Lost me with round wounds.
you should have run it through a 56 bassman and had me demo it.
