You're right that it depends on the person and how badly they want it, but I'd think there would be more avenues open for an actor. Unlike with singing, career longevity doesn't necessarily depend on popularity. Avan was just cast in a new pilot, and if that doesn't go well (as well as other big projects,) there's always lower budget stuff and indie films as well as non-musical theatre to fall back on. Looking at past examples, usually only 1 member of a boyband has post band success.
