I was trying to identify the year of my wife's lost Callaway Big Bertha 7 iron so that I could try to find a correct match. Your pointing out that in 1994 the club had the number on the toe was exactly what I needed. Thanks!

My grandfather gave me his set of these irons years ago when he upgraded and now that he has passed I still treasure the sand wedge from the set. I had his biggest big Bertha driver but when I was playing with it long ago the head broke off and went flying when hitting a drive.

I've had these in my collection for 2 years. I used them for the first time this week and I loved them. I also agree with your assessment of the the PE2's. They are incredible.

Made my only hole in one, 5 iron at 185 yards, with these in 1995.

These would be in my top 5 irons of all time. SO forgiving, workable, feel good, durable. Also played on tour by some notable players in their prime.

I still play the X-12's from the late 90's, with TT Lite shafts. Good as anything else for me. Also had the Tungsten Titanium versions of the GBB at one point. All were/are numb feeling but truly are great game improvement clubs. Also, you are correct about Rhode Island - we are still here and not encased in stainless steel!

my dad has a ton of club sets and i "borrowed" this from him and have been playing with them for the last few years, finally i decided to look up what I'm playing with and was shocked that these are almost 30years old! I feel comfortable with them, and feel the big, thick & heavy face makes it go a little farther (when i do hit it well). I feel I should invest in a new set, but I'm worried about smaller, less forgiving clubs.

You should get a hold of a Founders Club Fresh Metal driver and the accompanying irons. The irons were every bit as good as my Ping Eye 2s but without the severe offset. The FC driver had better feel than my TayorMade Burner of the era.

Great irons. I had the 94s in high school golf and just bought my wife a basically brand new set of the womens 96’ irons for $150 3-pw with steel shafts.

Ping Zing II irons for my 90's bag, or titleist DCI blacks, as solid as they get. The gold version of these or X12 pro series which were hot could easily find my bag. Have the big bertha gold 2 iron still, loads of fun to hit. Never ever the silly looking Cleveland VAS, even if they work. Almost forgot, Cobra king cobra oversize tour irons, actually what I used for awhile back then, a full set 1 thru lob wedge. Excellent lob wedge.

Still playing a set today I got from one of Billy Casper’s sons in about 1998. Except for the 5 iron that has to go back in the early ‘00s to have the medallion replaced, they are bulletproof. But they are HUGE. Weren’t they the first with the extreme perimeter weighting, hence that top line?

I didn’t like the plastic insert. That’s the only reason I bought the 845s in the 90s.

I've got the 1996 as well as Karsten III Eye Eye 2 Steel and Eye 2 BeCu. Not sure I can agree with you about Zings, although I do like the woods. If pushed I'd have to say it came down to the Eyes or the Eye 2 BeCu. Predictable - but I was there in the 80s in London with all of the above and the odd Porsche and Aston Martin.

These days I play most days with the Eye 2 BeCu and Zing blonde woods.

Karsten 111 for me ! way better than eye 2 K3 kept the ball down hence why he put the rail on them.

The BB woods are in my 90’s bag not this irons. It’s a toss up Ping Zing or Tommy Armour. I think Ping 2 I think 1980’s.

Those ubiquitous plastic labels of the 90s. So gaudy.

I have a complete big bertha iron set 2-9 with all wedges sans attack wedge. They are absolute trash. I hate them with every fiber of my being. The day I got rid of them my score improved by 10, I am now 15 off in 3 rounds. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them. I want to sell them to buy a new 3 hybrid but I also want to melt them down and bury the scrap so they can't hurt anyone any more. I bought them for 50 dollars a decade ago when I was 12 years old and that was what it took for these clubs to be usable. I would rather kick the ball for 18 holes than ever have to use these clubs again. I would file a police report against these clubs if I could. They are criminal.

This was 150 rounds of shooting 60 fucking over because it turns out you're using the wrong clubs for you expressing itself. I went from being so bad my family didn't want to play with me on my best day to not having the lowest handicap in the family (I have no clue what a handicap is, I got assigned one) without picking up a club for over a year. This should be a rant about the importance of finding clubs that fit you but my rage is directed solely at the callaway big bertha line of irons. I bought new callaway clubs but I almost gagged looking at the new big berthas in store. Vile clubs.
