NATURALIS Biodiversity Center LEIDEN [Ep. 41]

The Naturalis Biodiversity Center is a museum of natural history based in the student town of Leiden, the Netherlands. In 2021 it was named the European museum of the year.
It's also a research center. The museum is in a beautifully designed building and is laid out in a very different way to normal museums. Instead of being quite sterile and white, with everything in glass cabinets, most exhibitions are in dark rooms with moody music, and plenty of hands on items. It really does work hard for that award of museum of the year.
It covers animals, geology, dinosaurs, humans, life and death. In fact the last exhibition is all about dying.
The kids especially enjoyed the dinosaur part, where there is a full T-Rex skeleton. There's also a 4D dinosaur experience/ride.
It's definitely one of our top museums and well worth a visit.
Het Naturalis Biodiversity Centre is een natuurhistorisch museum in de studentenstad Leiden, Nederland. In 2021 werd het uitgeroepen tot Europees museum van het jaar.
Het is ook een onderzoekscentrum. Het museum is gehuisvest in een prachtig ontworpen gebouw en is op een heel andere manier ingericht dan normale musea. In plaats van vrij steriel en wit te zijn, met alles in glazen kasten, zijn de meeste tentoonstellingen in donkere kamers met stemmige muziek en veel praktische items. Er wordt echt hard gewerkt voor die prijs van museum van het jaar.
Het omvat dieren, geologie, dinosaurussen, mensen, leven en dood. In feite gaat de laatste tentoonstelling over sterven.
De kinderen genoten vooral van het dinosaurusgedeelte, waar een volledig T-Rex-skelet is. Er is ook een 4D-dinosauruservaring/-rit.
Het is absoluut een van onze topmusea en zeker een bezoek waard.
