I love your show and your Chicago connection. You've inspired me to launch my own UA-cam channel, the Cubbears fan report, where I say that the Bears are entering their playoff window, and need a veteran quarterback, not a rookie. I'm also a former surgeon, and medicine can be an art. Up til now, he's been an artist trying to paint a blank canvas. With proper weapons, protection, and coaching, he will emerge as a brilliant surgeon. Don't trade him away!!!

The only QB problem Da Bears have currently is a longer term contract for JF1. If that gets solved we can build the offence through the draft long term moving forward. Poles needs this solved A.S.A.P! It's a business and it's all in Fields hands at the moment. Sign a long time contract Justin!!

I agree, Justin fields has made watching the Bears fun and no matter what happens with the Bears, I will always consider it a privilege to have watched him play.
I'd say a surgeon is like Tom Brady/P Manning. Mahomes is a surgical artist. Poles said in an interview that CW and Mahomes have some things in common like arm slot being the thing. But lets not put that pressure of being as good as the all time greatest (Mahomes) on CW yet... let him get in to the league. Caleb is an artist, plays hero ball, off script, single side reads primarily offense from the shotgun. Justin is an Artist (with similar issues as CW) now, who will be the better artist will be what Poles needs to figure out.
Justin Fields became Mahomes 2 in the 2022 season. He carried the worst team in football. His statistics match Josh Allen and Jalen Hurst in their first years as rookie quarterbacks.
Tyson Bagent got signed and showcased his winning games for Chicago Bears in 2023! Justin is still QB2 despite all the coaches being fired all throughout the 2023 season. I hope Tyson Bagent can be patient while Poles and Eberflus rebuild the offensive line - just releasing Cody Whitehair the veteran center. 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️
Finish the interview. When asked which one he would want Poles said a winner fields isn’t a winner. Poles was saying you can win with either one. Artist means the qb creates the play after the snap surgeon means the qb creates the play before the snap. Meaning they’ll check into the right formation and know they’ll get the ball out in 1.7 seconds to the second read.
Bears are not a winning team - last place in 2022 season. Speculators assume "it must be the imperfect quarterback" without even guessing if other team problems exist. Every month a coach got fired in 2023 until the Superbowl when the offensive coaches were fired. Podcasts have been pointing out the horrid details of play calling - making me come to my realization that my high school coach can beat Da Bears.
The defensive play caller got fired in midseason. Eberflus took over and Da Bears defense is going top notch. This is what Chicago front office told the media that 2023 is their focus on rebuilding DEFENSE (no surprise since Poles and Matt are defensive minded people).
Now they informed media that the 2024 season (draft) they are focusing on rebuilding Offense. Fields is the EXPERT in his position surviving the dysfunction of coaching and play calling.
Fields survived his record of "most sacked QB in the NFL" due mostly to the rookies on the offensive line. The center got released Cody White hair making ten million a year.
Despite this Justin matches other rookie QBs as Swift Sports pointed out.
Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen in their SECOND/THIRD years. Nobody wanted those two traded or fired.

Artists paint outside the lines, use their creativity, do things that are very unique & never seen before. Surgeons are very methodical, by the book, and work with precision
Matt Waldman uses the analogy of Bakers & Chefs, which I like a little better. Bakers follow the recipes. Chefs take more liberties, use their creativity, and are spontaneous & unique like the artist
Define the terms to find the answer.
Surgeon seems to describe pocket passer while artist seems to have high regard for creativity talent.
Luke Getsy designed great Plan A which everyone saw Chicago drive down the field and score. After that they fell down losing.

When did "reseting the QB clock" become a thing?
Shortly after rookie contacts went to a slotting system & severely decreased. First time I heard of it was around 2016 or so
Love your show. Have to say there is a DEFINITE slant or undercurrent to how you discuss this situation,that shows your preferences but I suppose thats the case for everyone. The one thing I think gets a bit overlooked is you really can consider this 1st pick as part of LAST years deal. So they get the tackle, a starting WR AND a QB who has pretty much been a consensus top pick every year he has been in college. Its not just tied to a pick this year thst they fell into due to being worst. Its part of that deal. See how Justin does...then if need be draft a qb if you aren't sure. Well that played out exactly and they ended up with 1st pick. They need to try with Caleb. There are three years of film on Justin. Still same questions. It doesn't matter what he does on other team anymore than an ex girlfriend being happy after you break up. There is still doubt about Justin and end of games. Time to break up. And I love the guy.
Film of Da Bears is the snap happening and Justin running with the ball after defenders crash through the linemen and tackle/try to tackle Justin before he can get into position of the play called by the coach.
QB2 is Tyson Bagent who started after Justin broke his throwing hand. Tyson will defeat a new rookie QB easily in training camp.
Notice how Fields is still QB1 after QB2 won 50% of the four games he showcased. Tyson threw 6 interceptions but Peyton Manning threw 30 of them in his rookie start!
Justin is the first one going to work in the morning and the last one to leave. Tyson learned being a QB at age 6. How does a six year old throw a 🏈? 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️
Jaguars had consecutive 1 OA picks, took Lawrence then Walker. And it was only 2021/2022.
I saw it the other way. I believe Mahomes & Caleb would be considered more artistic. And that the pure pocket passers ala Brady or the Manning's would be considered Surgeon's.
The artist vs surgeon thing left out an important quote from poles. He was then asked which he wants and Poles said "a winner". Ultimately, I think people are too hyper focused on WIlliams vs Fields. And tbh, I don't see Williams as a surgeon either fwiw. My take overall is they keep Fields, move #1 and potentially look at someone like JJ Mccarthy to sit behind Fields because it's kind of the best of both worlds. You can trade down and recoup a lot of picks, give Fields another shot to prove he is or isn't the guy but you also cover your ass if he isn't while letting a rookie QB sit his first year. If Fields proves he's the guy next year then you will have a valuable asset to trade similar to all the QBs behind Brady the pats dealt away. If he doesn't then you're not immediately throwing a rookie QB into the fire.
Tyson Bagent already is the Chicago QB2. He won games for Chicago and looks great for being a rookie in the NFL. Offensive line just lost veteran center Cody Whitehair. Chicago is crumbling fast - the offensive linemen allowed Justin to break the 2022 record of being sacked (55 times?) Build the offense quick.

Adam Pat M is an Artist being coached by a surgeon. JF1 is an Artist being coach by a substitute teacher. Caleb is an Artist as well Who will need a surgeon to coach him.
Justin fields is both a surgeon and an artist. But he can still only do so much with a revolving door in the center of his offensive line and one wide receiver.
Yeah, it’s not. He kind of told you what’s going on. He’ll interview these guys and get confirmation on their analysis and out of that will give fields his answer soon. I’d expect in the next 7-10 days fields has his new home and we basically no the choice. I can’t imagine it’s not Williams but they’re going to talk to the other two as well
Mass Media is goofy again - it's track record is 90% wrong for two decades. Bears met Tyson Bagent at the Senior Bowl. No team drafted him. Bears signed Tyson in UDFA. Tyson started the games during the season Justin was recovering from his broken throwing hand. Tyson won two games! The 2022 season showed Chicago winning three games. Bagent was a massive improvement every team missed out on. First level QB draftees are 85% bust. Chicago Bears front office is much smarter than opposition in the NFL. 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️

Way I see it, Mahomes is an artist. He can be surgical at times, but he's a creative, off script genius. Surgeon would be Brady, Rodgers, Burrow. As for Fields and Williams, they're both artists as well. You want a surgeon from this draft, it's Nix or Penix.
Resetting Bears is a dumb idea. It has a thin chance of developing Chicago for the Playoffs - especially when you examine Tyson Bagent with his winning games for Chicago - he could take Chicago to the playoffs! 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️
@@Michael-CharlesAust-ee5oo I don't believe the quickest path to success for this team is by trading Justin Fields - and it's probably not the best path for long term success either. If I were GM, I'd take a trade down, play Fields this year, and if he doesn't define consistent play and the ability to win games you move on next year. Plenty of capital to do so. Williams is a highly rated prospect, sure - but there will be those next year as well. As it stands right now, Williams would have to light the world on fire to match what a 'decent' prospect, Stroud, achieved last year.

Poles is doing his job and considering both roads. Which direction he wants to go. Here is the issue, Poles needs to do nothing to get a bidding war for that first pick, nothing. At least 5 teams have contacted USC about Caleb to get information. That’s your bidding war.
But Poles is considering both roads. Are the Texans considering trading Stroud for draft picks? Or, the Bengals Burrow, the Bills Allen, the Chargers Herbert, the 49ers Purdy etc… No, no they are not. If he is considering trading Justin which he said he is, there is an issue.
You don’t need to put up smoke screens to trade the number 1 with Williams in this class. You just don’t know. But if you want some value for Justin then you need to convince teams to move you off Justin. Other wise you have no leverage, that or you need a bidding war for him, that takes at least 2 teams. What is his value? Second round pick? Maybe a mid to low first? That doesn’t scream elite QB. Especially given his age.
You also don’t tell people how you have been thinking about how you could break it to the team that you are trading him and he thinks the team will react “when” he does that. His words. Or talk about if he does trade him he wants to make sure he goes to a good place that he will be happy at. You literally don’t need to talk about any of that stuff, it doesn’t benefit you at all.
All he has to do to get what he wants is raise the golden ticket and say who wants Caleb. That’s it. There are at least 12 teams that could use him. If you were to trade Justin or DJ Moore who do you get more for? Justin is a QB they are in high demand, most important position on the team. Despite Flus saying edge is the most important, it’s actually QB, oh Flus. Could someone at least water the guy so he grows a personality. At least Lovie had attitude. Teams tend to reflect their coaches personality, he’s a beta, monotone, mush. Oh here come the Packers I’m scared, let’s play not lose, oh darn we lost, I need to watch the tape. JF1 is an artist,, artist's show you unique things on occasion and are worshiped as gods, but are temperamental. A Surgeon has a portfolio of high level work to show, but one bad performance and their career is over (that sounds like Caleb)
A surgeon is the QB that can cut a defense from the pocket within the structure of the offense, aka Brady, Mapnning… an artist is the QB that can do the exact opposite. Akak Mahomes. Justin Fields falls under the Artist category.. only hes a bad artists… like a 5 year old is an artist. 😂
