Thanks for sharing these treasures about Cozumel! We have been to Cozumel about 6 times and our last visit was over Christmas, 2020. We didn't even know about Benito Juarez Market and will check it out next time instead of getting produce at Mega! Without the cruise ships, Cozumel is just extra lovely and uncrowded. The food is always delicious and the restaurant owners so appreciate all customers coming to the island. Hope you have a wonderful visit to a favorite and special place in Mexico.

I can only imagine what Coz and Riviera Maya must have been like before tourist boom. It seems overrun now. If you really want to go back in time you can go to Cuba and live in 1960. It's lovely! Do you have coverage on Belize? I am interested to go there. Do you have coverage on Caribbean? I suspect that Caribbean is quite 'up market' and not ideal for budget slow travelers. cheers

I don't think Mexico has much of a tipping culture. Since you eat mostly at locals restaurants, is tipping expected? If so, what is considered a decent tip?
We tip 10 to 20% depending on the service. :-)
Hi there Dan and Qiang..!!! Iโve been following you guys for a good while already. Iโve got the hots for the Philippines but as you know, closed currently. So I hit Mexico. Didnโt do the Rivera Maya though. I hit Merida and currently in Campeche. Next week I head to Hautalco to follow up on your beach and food recommendations. After that just keep heading north. The question I have is ......where does Qiang put all the food...?? She is a eating machine.!!!

We just followed whatever the locals rules were and everything was fine. Unlike much of the world, Mexico was pretty sane.

Oaxaca in the summer ... Puerto Morelos in winters. But it is hard to go wrong with Mexico. I live all these places I report on here: vagabondbuddha.com

Yelp is more USA and Europe. Google reviews are more all over the world. This one was Google. :-)

Hey Dan, may I ask if you get sick much in Mexico, from food? You know, how it's typically common for us travelers to get sick from food on occasion, but more so from certain countries...? Is Mexico one of those countries that it's far less common to get sick from food? And, in general, might you say that it's less common to get sick from food in all of Latin America, than it is in SE Asia...?

The lesson to be learned from your video is that no matter where you are in the world, you can find CHEAP, absolutely, delicious, tasty food if you just take the time to search it out. I've been to sixteen countries and lived in eleven. Not a claim to fame by any means but even in Sicily, I found nonna shopkeepers who would give me pasta dinners for two, double dessert and a bag of 6 huge bread rolls for 5 euros max. (PAST EXPERIENCES don't guarantee future results!!! ) And Lidl is very cheap anyways in Sicily ... just one block from this Palermo restaurant.) Try to speak the language (very important), put on your sweet face and go back there more than once to show gratitude. Of all my expenses in Europe, food, without a doubt, has been next to negligible. This has been borne out again in country after country where I have visited. I could point you to a take out pasta stand in Novi Sad, Serbia that sells pasta (5 different varieties of sauces/pasta combinations) for 2 USD. The only exclusion to my claim is the: USA! FOOD IS SO EXPENSIVE HERE!!! ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
