- The Conservatives have suffered two heavy by-election defeats in the UK, with Labour overturning huge majorities to take Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth.
The party made history in Mid Bedfordshire, overcoming a 24,664 Tory majority to win the seat for the first time.
In Tamworth there was a 23.9% swing to Labour from the Tories.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said his party was "redrawing the political map”.

Its good to know the British People can see past the Headlines and are aware of how selfish the Tories are.

Ironically, it's entirely their own ineptitude that's to blame.
Sturmer hardly inspires confidence - especially with the likes of Mandelson or Blair behind him - so it's not even as if people are voting FOR him, they're just voting AGAINST the Tories, and at this point they'll take just about anyone over the Tories.

As a german citizen watching the UK I was baffled at how long the Tories managed to get this much support despite their abysmal track record. The standard of living in the UK is sinking and Brexit was clearly a mistake. The only thing that Tories did that was absolutely right and necessary was their strong support of Ukraine. But thats not enough. Im glad Labour did well now and I hope this trend will continue. As a European I want to see the UK succeed but there has got to be some serious changes in government first, starting with removing the Tories
As an Englishman I'm appalled by the Germans trying to ban political parties. The standard of living is sinking in most developed countries and they didn't do Brexit. It's more to do with the lack of energy independence than Brexit. The BBC hates the Conservatives because they keep threatening to get rid of the licence fee so clearly biased.
CDU is not much better than the Tories, and yet they still have the highest support from German voters in recent polls, so... I don't get why you were baffled
Germans are in no position to comment given your own government shambles.

I'd rather suffer another decade of Conservative rule than give leadership of the country to that cabalistic autocratic arse.
The lib dem votes took conservative voters and enabled labour to win, so it's even better than tactical voting. It's local tactical voting.
Because the alternatives are utter garbage or too small to be trusted to run the country
The thing is there isn't an obvious tactical vote in Mid Beds, unlike in other areas. It's a mixture of urban areas (where Labour typically do well) and more rural areas (where Lib Dems typically do well), plus it's been a Tory safe seat for longer than the majority of voters have even been alive. Even the two major opposition parties didn't collaborate on a tactical vote like they've done in other areas.
