- Sir Keir Starmer has ruled out paying reparations for Britain’s role in the slave trade in the run-up to a major Commonwealth summit.
Downing Street insisted the issue was “not on the agenda” for the meeting of nations in Samoa later this month.
Asked what the Prime Minister’s view on paying reparations is, his official spokesman said on Monday: “We do not pay reparations.”
Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by former government adviser Claire Pearsall, who slams the demand by Caribbean nations.

I am a Slav who was born in the UK. My family were never part of the slave trade. I am pretty aggrieved that the Nazis killed my Polish family. My Scottish side has given me Viking finger from when the tall people came over. Overall I have been very happy with my education and opportunities. I have traveled a bit and I think that the UK was a good place to grow up. The people don't breed like rabbits and I like a good British ale.

We do have a proud history , sadly we are made to feel bad about it plus our history is being black washed as well, to the extent that it makes history /historians that support it look stupid
UK stole food from India and 15 million staved to death during WW2
And the Arabs who started it and carried on gor years after it was abolished by Britian are recieving no crticm or demands for reparation.
The Arabs had little to do with the trans Atlantic slave trade, whereas Britain led the way in human trafficking across the Atlantic.

Considering the slaves not sold from west Africa were eaten or ritually sacrificed so didn’t have any descendants.

They sold there own people as salves so why are they not being held accountable
I think there's about 11 million slaves in Africa now perhaps Africa would like to stop the slave trade and the biggest slave owners were the Turkish the reason why there's no Africans in Turkey is because all the slaves were castrated
Brewer never mentions that the British taxpayer only recently stopped paying reparations to those slave owning families….for loss of property !!!

I have seen many Prime Minister’s come and go. This is the first Prime Minister I have experienced so out of touch with reality and lacking leadership.
