last time i was this early dan was still on fire
i literally respect phil so much for closeting himself again for dan, going through dan’s “i don’t want to be near you” phase, and for always being there for dan even when dan literally wanted nothing to do with him. he supported dan so much. most people would’ve probably left dan because he was so pushy and aggressive when he was in his “no homo” phase, but phil stayed. i love phil so much and i’m so glad he stayed.

@@whydidyouleaveryanross1890 there was a time when Dan (im sure Phil a little bit too, but Dan was the one who talked about it) was so anxious about anyone finding out that he was gay that he kind of became so aggressively "im not gay" out of panic. it got to the point where they were changing the way he and Phil interacted publically so the invasive rumors would die down and no one would suspect anything. they would sit farther away from each other during interviews, appear in each other's videos and livestreams less, stuff like that. just to avoid the "OH MY GOD DAN AND PHIL ARE SO TOTALLY GAY #PHAN4LIFE" comments. it was a super dark time for Dan, but Phil was incredibly patient and stuck with him through it.
Phil Is a real one, and I hope he is doing well and that he achieves all of his goals, he is truly an amazing person (pun intended)

Definitely, and the fans 100% made it so much worse that they had to force themselves to push the “we’re not gay” narrative just because of how invasive the fans were
I feel so sorry for them in a lot of this video, the internalised homophobia is just so loud especially from Dan and the phandom just made everything so much more difficult for them. We (and the whole internet) genuinely need to make sure a situation like 2012 never happens again to anyone.

Lea Bergzwergi just look up “2012 Dan and Phil” and you will probably find out. Basically stuff happened and people started being insanely invasive into their personal life to the point they started to completely watch themselves online and they both seemed very cautious about being at all affectionate to each other, on edge all the time and quite unhappy.

Lea Bergzwergi in 2012 UA-cam had a glitch and made one of Phil’s unlisted private videos that was meant to for Dan public. The video outed both of them and it was shortly privated again but ever since people have been uploading it onto UA-cam. There’s even been an emergence of the video again on the internet like this month.
I'm not sure if these videos are supposed to make me laugh or feel uncomfortable. I'm just gonna do both, thanks.
oof I forgot how many times Dan actually flat out denied being gay, in my memory he mostly just dodged the question, that makes me so sad for him :( also those group live show clips reminded me of Tyler Oakley's recent video where he mentioned Dan and Phil never came out to him which made me curious about how many of their youtube friends actually knew.
If the Valentine’s Day video was actually real, I think it was many of the English UA-camrs that would have known?
@@JamaicanRain yeah I would imagine some of the English youtubers they were closer friends with knew. for some reason I was a bit surprised that Tyler didn't (although considering they were never close friends and the journey Dan went through, it makes sense) so it just made me think that less people than I might assume knew!
JamaicanRain the valentines vid was real (if any of this footage made you at all uncomfortable, that shit hurts. Don’t even try to find it. If it even still exists anywhere. I watched it like 7 years ago and I’ve regretted it since) but phil had meant it to be unlisted. He uploaded it to UA-cam as a way to send it to Dan not as a public thing. Someone ended up finding it somehow; but it wasn’t meant to be seen by anyone other than Dan. So I don’t think that correlates?

I used to think Shane Dawson knew because he always seemed to be threatening to out them, then i thought he was just monetizing the ship and encouraging shippers to harass them but after the James Charles thing i feel like it was probably somehow both
I feel so awful watching this. Some of it is cute awkward cringy moments but the internalized homophobia is so much. I wanna hug them both so bad. Being a celebrity in the closet has to just be so awful.

i feel so bad about how many times on live dan was asked. like it was so often and you could see how uncomfortable he was. and now knowing what was going on behind the scenes makes me super:/ the phandom had a lot of younger members back then but i feel like as dnp aged, so has their audience? so now the phandom is a lot older and at least we can see what we did was not okay and not continue the same behaviors

I feel so bad for Phil. On top of closeting himself, he was constantly in the shadow of Dan - like on his live streams people constantly asking for him and then Dan not wanting to sit next to him. He must have felt so unwanted :(

Looking back the entire D&P timeline we all need to support Phil and put some respect on him. He was always so lighthearted and professional through it all, being one of the OG UA-camrs (after all Dan was formerly just a fan of his), handled it all with grace and maturity. He did not make a big deal about his orientation or anything, he just did so for Dan. He also had a frickin Masters Degree by 23...idk he just impresses me. To do all that seemingly always with a smile.

@@gir2005 because there was a time where Dan didn’t want to sit next to Phil/be around him because he didn’t want the oMg dAn iS gAy rumours to continue because they were overwhelming him. so he thought the less I’m around & near him the less likely people will think I’m gay.

it doesn't seem so? but I dont really know much abt the fantastic foursome in the first place. They are definitely still friends with PJ (they've texted PJ in Phil's recent video about some Animal Crossing song). Crabstickz I'm not so sure but they met with him on their London Day-in-the-of-Life and collabed on his gameshow thingy well after the fantastic foursome drifted apart.
I think they just wanted to do their own separate things. I don’t think there’s any bad blood between them

I feel so bad for them, and a lot of older UA-camrs. They were hounded to come out, and therefore became a bit aggressive about denying it. There was a sort of similar thing with Connor Franta, with his ‘I’m not gay’ video. However I don’t think it affected him the same was as it did Dan, and it’s so sad. So glad he’s living his truth now!

I cannot look inside Dan's head but it seems to me that his crush on Jennifer Lawrence was real... maybe it was just admiration? But I feel like he wasn't lying with that one. Let's not forget that Dan coming out as "gay" was more of a "here, there is a label, it might not be the best label but it's close enough" but I wouldn't invalidate feelings of attraction or love he had towards women in the past, it feels wrong.

YES thank you! I get really upset when people say he never liked women because in his video he said he has been genuinely attracted to girls and I feel like people invalidate people that aren’t completely straight or gay way too much and that really upsets me (I’m bi btw)
Sexuality is extremely flexible I believe no one is 100% straight or gay so throughout his life he could've have attraction to women but it happens he relates/identify more with being gay which is great that he finally gained the courage to identify as that after all these years of repressing the idea of it. :)
