Love the Southbank dress. The white looks so fresh. The sewing machine mat looks great. I use the table protector mat too but i stick it in the washer every so often and it comes out clean. Im definitely going to gove the face wipes a go. Believe it ir not, it's making a start on presents for this Christmas. I know, I'm crazy but i have 7 sisters and 5 close friends that i make presents for so I've got to make a start. So im going to do the face wipes and a rolles pouch to put makeup brushes in for them all. Your daughter will love hers. Look forward to seeing the material for the bestie bag for your sister. Thank you for sharing. Xx

I love the idea of a calendar just for your sewing bits! I may have to pinch that idea! Maybe separate calendars for sewing, uni, general life..... Ok yeah I love stationary 😂
also love the English paper piecing you're doing. I made myself 4 cushion covers with hexies - one red/orange, one yellow/green, one blue, one purple/pink and I LOVE them, and now I'm obsessed with the idea of doing rainbow stripes on one cushion cover..... Thanks for the inspiration! X

Oh I love that your sister is making the fabric for her bag. It’s so nice you have sewing in common now. I think Amy’s bag is going to look lovely. Those little pjs are the cutest, I’m sure your friends daughter will be very happy. Loved our zoom catch up, so funny we were both hand sewing. You’re very inspiring with all your plans Angela. I can’t wait to see how everything comes together. Your cream dress was lovely as was the fabric for your daughter’s bestie bag - it’s such a fun make. I started quilting a few years ago and love it. I always stitch the binding on the machine on one side and hand stitch the back and it usually looks nice and neat - will definitely need to look at how to do the serpentine stitch. I have just finished sewing the Ressac sweatshirt which I had a few hiccups with as the fabric was very thick but got there in the end and am very pleased with how it turned out. 😊

Another great vlog, thanks. A tip for quilting in straight lines is to place masking take on your fabric and use the sides as a guide. Remove and place again. I have never mastered machine sewing binding neatly on both sides. I usually machine it on the right side then turn it over and hand sew it down. It takes a while on a large quilt but a great job when sewing in from of the television.

Too funny about the calendar, I was actually thinking of the same thing yesterday. I have four wedding gowns to alter this year and need to keep track of what needs to be started and when. But of course, I want to sew for myself and my family, so I need to have time to do that. I think having that calendar will help me keep it all organized and hopefully more productive. I wondered if your sister could share pictures of how she puts together her own fabric. I took a slow sewing class this past week. When making a picture, it doesn't matter that there are raw edges on the fabric, but if using that method for bag making it might just fall apart. I'm having a think how to incorporate what I learned and how to use it for a bag. Today is housework, finish some alterations for clients, print out how a few patterns, and if I have time cut out some leggings for some little girls. I think your little friend is going to love the no button pjs. Adding felt buttons was so inspired.

Your enthusiasm for the new year is contagious ☺️ The bag for you sister sounds gorgeous, I love making patchwork bags myself and I often use scraps or example pieces of upholstery fabrics, they make really good bags.
I have just bought a lovely new pattern, it’s the Fern top + the expansion pack for a square neckline and started by making a toile. After a minor adjustment I made a dress by lengthening the peplum part of the top and added patch pockets. I made it from an Indian block printed tablecloth that I found in a market in Milan on vacation. It turned out just like I hoped (will be posting it on my IG account today) It’s such a good pattern with lots of options, and hackability. My inspiration came from the UA-cam channel Joon made which is an absolutely lovely channel, can highly recommend it!

I have completed a WIP this week, yay! I have been sewing binding to the front of the quilt/item, then hand stitching on the back. I have seen people stitching it onto the back with 1/4" seam, turning it to the front and machine stitching close to the inside edge, using an awl where necessary to keep the edge straight. One or two have also drawn a line where the edge should be with an air or water soluble marker to help to keep it straight. I haven't tried it, but I plan to very soon.

The calendar idea is very helpful. I usually do one thing at a time, but waste possibly 2-3 weeks of doing nothing when I am busy with life,. I am not ready for the next stage of my current project . Now I see a way to line up other quick sections of projects and not get lost in a world of WIPs. Thanks !

Hello Angela! You've been busy and I love the idea of keeping planning ideas/projects within your eyesight on the calendar. I suffer from the same things - I call it Newitis. Wanting to start new projects when I've already got a long list of 'have to makes' because I love them too! For regular square or rectangular mats you can do something called self-binding (there loads of you tube videos on this-of course). These do not need bias binding just binding. The idea is to make the fabric for one of your sides large enough to be able to bring the fabric over to the other side and turn that into the binding. Both sides will be perfect. I am not a quilter by any means, but lately I seem to need to add more of these details in my makes. I have also used double sided (machine & needle safe) tape to secure the other side in the exact spot I want them so my line of stitching won't be wavy or wonky. Those are my tricks from one newbie quilter to another. ;-) Have a great weekend. BTW, the collaboration with your sister is amazing.
