Great quilted mat (I hadn't heard of that stitch either!) The bestie bag for your sister sounds great, I look forward to seeing as I was thinking of making one with denim scraps patched together😊
Another great vlog, thanks. A tip for quilting in straight lines is to place masking take on your fabric and use the sides as a guide. Remove and place again. I have never mastered machine sewing binding neatly on both sides. I usually machine it on the right side then turn it over and hand sew it down. It takes a while on a large quilt but a great job when sewing in from of the television.
Loved the catchup! I watched the short sew a long and it is a fab video Angela! Epp on the train is such a fab use of time, plus you need so few tools to happily get on with it. I keep wanting to take a train somewhere just so I can do my EPP😂
Oh that’s so funny - train riding for EPP purposes only lol!!! Aaaahhh a craft train 😳 might be on to something there lol! Aahh thank you so much Adam 🥰
Oh I love that your sister is making the fabric for her bag. It’s so nice you have sewing in common now. I think Amy’s bag is going to look lovely. Those little pjs are the cutest, I’m sure your friends daughter will be very happy. Loved our zoom catch up, so funny we were both hand sewing. I’m now off to investigate this serpentine stitch! lol xx
Isn't it nice to make the odd non garment project. I think this is the perfect time of year to sew smaller items too. I love your makes Angela and your sisters bestie bag will be even more special, what a lovely idea. Have another productive week.
I love the idea of a calendar just for your sewing bits! I may have to pinch that idea! Maybe separate calendars for sewing, uni, general life..... Ok yeah I love stationary 😂 also love the English paper piecing you're doing. I made myself 4 cushion covers with hexies - one red/orange, one yellow/green, one blue, one purple/pink and I LOVE them, and now I'm obsessed with the idea of doing rainbow stripes on one cushion cover..... Thanks for the inspiration! X
Thank you Angela, I have today ordered the fabric and pattern for McCall's shirt pattern for my husband. I love the Southbank sweater dress you have made. I am in the process of making a Bestie bag.
Angela your machine mat is really good. I machine stitch one side of the binding (even when I am making a quilt) and hand stitch the other. It always makes me feel that I have accomplished something special. Your Rydal jumpsuit is going to be a winner. X
Oh my goodness I love the Southbank sweater dress in that cream fabric gorgeous, love the machine mat and the Bestie bags are going well glad to see you are back in the zone 😂xx
Great to see you back in your sewing room being so enthused about all your makes and plans. Love the Southbank ❤. I need a cream cable one in my life😂😂😂. Just off to check out Sam’s cleansing cloths as I am so impressed with yours - lucky daughter. Happy Sewing😊. Lynne
You’re very inspiring with all your plans Angela. I can’t wait to see how everything comes together. Your cream dress was lovely as was the fabric for your daughter’s bestie bag - it’s such a fun make. I started quilting a few years ago and love it. I always stitch the binding on the machine on one side and hand stitch the back and it usually looks nice and neat - will definitely need to look at how to do the serpentine stitch. I have just finished sewing the Ressac sweatshirt which I had a few hiccups with as the fabric was very thick but got there in the end and am very pleased with how it turned out. 😊
Too funny about the calendar, I was actually thinking of the same thing yesterday. I have four wedding gowns to alter this year and need to keep track of what needs to be started and when. But of course, I want to sew for myself and my family, so I need to have time to do that. I think having that calendar will help me keep it all organized and hopefully more productive. I wondered if your sister could share pictures of how she puts together her own fabric. I took a slow sewing class this past week. When making a picture, it doesn't matter that there are raw edges on the fabric, but if using that method for bag making it might just fall apart. I'm having a think how to incorporate what I learned and how to use it for a bag. Today is housework, finish some alterations for clients, print out how a few patterns, and if I have time cut out some leggings for some little girls. I think your little friend is going to love the no button pjs. Adding felt buttons was so inspired.
I love the idea of crumb-piecing the fabric for a Bestie Bag! I have two quilts in progress using crumb-piecing; they take longer to do the a regular quilt, but are so satisfying when they are done!
I have completed a WIP this week, yay! I have been sewing binding to the front of the quilt/item, then hand stitching on the back. I have seen people stitching it onto the back with 1/4" seam, turning it to the front and machine stitching close to the inside edge, using an awl where necessary to keep the edge straight. One or two have also drawn a line where the edge should be with an air or water soluble marker to help to keep it straight. I haven't tried it, but I plan to very soon.
What a great start on your January sewing projects! You’ve sewn some lovely things thus far. Having some cold weather in Florida, so I am working on some cosy makes. Happy sewing, Angela.
Thank you for your sew along: it was brilliant. If I may make a suggestion for another: could you show us your process on M7999? I too have the pattern & am excited to make it, especially after seeing yours. You did beautiful work, & thanks for sharing it!
Lol Im laughing because I was never ever going to quilt but omg I started quilting a couple of years ago and I love love love it , I alway hand sew my binding onto the back I quite enjoy doing the hand sewing whilst watching to on an evening. I can see lots of quilting in your future xx
The calendar idea is very helpful. I usually do one thing at a time, but waste possibly 2-3 weeks of doing nothing when I am busy with life,. I am not ready for the next stage of my current project . Now I see a way to line up other quick sections of projects and not get lost in a world of WIPs. Thanks !
Your enthusiasm for the new year is contagious ☺️ The bag for you sister sounds gorgeous, I love making patchwork bags myself and I often use scraps or example pieces of upholstery fabrics, they make really good bags. I have just bought a lovely new pattern, it’s the Fern top + the expansion pack for a square neckline and started by making a toile. After a minor adjustment I made a dress by lengthening the peplum part of the top and added patch pockets. I made it from an Indian block printed tablecloth that I found in a market in Milan on vacation. It turned out just like I hoped (will be posting it on my IG account today) It’s such a good pattern with lots of options, and hackability. My inspiration came from the UA-cam channel Joon made which is an absolutely lovely channel, can highly recommend it!
I absolutely love the Fern top. I have made it several times in very different fabrics and I was recently thinking about lengthening it into a dress. You have inspired me!
You’re a busy lady my friend! Your daughter will certainly enjoy her gifts and the value that mom made them! With all the sewing I’ve done, I’ve never used the serpentine stitch either. I finished 22 bowl cozies this week to add to Christmas gifts, since we have not celebrated yet (next weekend). Have a wonderful week!
Love watching your vlogs whilst im sewing. Currently making a maxi length SewOverIt Marni cardigan which is a belated Xmas pressie for a lovely friend. I really love those face wipes. Off to check that out as am hoping to make some for 3 girlfriends who are visiting next weekend. Glad to see your mojo is all revved up. Thank you for all the inspiring and enthusiastic content 😊
Lovely to see what you are up to and your plans, I am still working on my Gambit Dress, I have no heating in my sewing room so it has been to cold. Hopefully today My heating will be sorted out and it will be warmer for me to sew in there.
Hello Angela! You've been busy and I love the idea of keeping planning ideas/projects within your eyesight on the calendar. I suffer from the same things - I call it Newitis. Wanting to start new projects when I've already got a long list of 'have to makes' because I love them too! For regular square or rectangular mats you can do something called self-binding (there loads of you tube videos on this-of course). These do not need bias binding just binding. The idea is to make the fabric for one of your sides large enough to be able to bring the fabric over to the other side and turn that into the binding. Both sides will be perfect. I am not a quilter by any means, but lately I seem to need to add more of these details in my makes. I have also used double sided (machine & needle safe) tape to secure the other side in the exact spot I want them so my line of stitching won't be wavy or wonky. Those are my tricks from one newbie quilter to another. ;-) Have a great weekend. BTW, the collaboration with your sister is amazing.
You have been exceptionally busy, Angela , you put me to shame. I have been tackling a WIP from two years ago, a Valentine's table topper. You may find yourself dipping into more quilting projects. The plans for your sister's Bestie bag sound amazing. ❤😂🎉 🇦🇺 🪃
Re: the binding, I saw a video a few days ago where a woman glued her binding down with Elmers WASHABLE school glue. After its dry she does her stitching. The glue doesn't interfere with gumming up her needle and completely washes out.( I havent tried this yet).😅
Hi Angela, great video as always and really looking forward to seeing each of the bestie bags over the next few months and how different they all look. Quick question, where have you sourced 15 inch zips from because I've really struggled!!
Ah thanks Angela, that just goes to show I haven't read the instructions properly even though I've got till next Friday to make one for my mum's birthday 😅
Hello Angela x thank you for your vlog ❤ I love your flight suit and have made one myself x Can I ask do you have trouble getting it over your shoulders?
Hi Angela, I'm hoping to make a bestie bag in cord. Just wanted to know what type or name of interfacing you used on your cord bag. Many thanks Allison
Great quilted mat (I hadn't heard of that stitch either!) The bestie bag for your sister sounds great, I look forward to seeing as I was thinking of making one with denim scraps patched together😊
Aaaahh a patchwork denim one would be fabulous - I love that idea - can't wait to see yours.
Thanks Nicky ❤️

Thank you, Katie 😊 I couldn't get a 15" zip, so I just used a 16" zip and adjusted it. There is an explanation for that in the pattern 😊
Ah thanks Angela, that just goes to show I haven't read the instructions properly even though I've got till next Friday to make one for my mum's birthday 😅
👍❤️
🥰🥰🥰
did you use a walking foot for your quilting,it makes a real diffrence
No I didn’t - I was meant to but forgot to put it on 🙈
Hello Angela x thank you for your vlog ❤ I love your flight suit and have made one myself x Can I ask do you have trouble getting it over your shoulders?
Thank you, Linda 😊 not particularly, but I did add an inch to the crotch length in my second one to help with that.
Ooh I need one of those mats! Where did you get the wadding please?
I used single-sided iron-in wadding from Hobbycraft 😊
Hi Angela, I'm hoping to make a bestie bag in cord. Just wanted to know what type or name of interfacing you used on your cord bag. Many thanks Allison
Good luck with the bestie bag! I used a single-sided iron-in wadding that I bought from Hobbycraft 😊
