There is no entry “program channel” on this menu on mine. They must have changed the interface to be programmed only through the computer. Or maybe moved this function to another menu.. Thanks for nice detailed instruction though!
I know this vid is a few years old but I have a question. How do you have US & WW contacts in your radio with only 10,000 available spots? Also, I see you have only 59 "contacts" programmed, where are the other contacts stored so that they show? Is that the .csv file?
Sorry, I no longer have this radio. This is an old video. I’m not sure it can be done on the radio.. I’m gonna bet you need a cable which is about £5 on eBay
Hi guys I have Retevis RT83 and trying to change Tx or Rx frequency in the radio and can't do that. So I go to MENU then SETTING then Config an Tx freq or Rx freq it dosen't matter which one I choose can't get the cursor to blink so i could change the numbers .Any idea why is there something lock in the radio ? Need help. Thanks
Hi yes you need to download the software from the web site www.retevis.com/resources_center/software/RT3S_SoftwareV1.2.zip and install then in MENU ITEM check the box
I don't have that radio anymore but you set the radio using the computer software. And you create a talk group which is group call. You create a hotspot which is colour code 1 slot 2. You link the top group to the channel you have just made. And you put it in a zone. Also put your radio ID of course. You set up your hotspot on DMR Mark and you have the same frequency as shown in the what is the basics I don't have the radio anymore but I hope that iswhat is the basics I don't have the radio anymore but I hope that is helpful
Morning Chris. Thanks for your helpful videos. I understand that you’re testing various radios but just wondering what your preference is between this and HD1? I have HD1 but always on the lookout for something new 😄. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this? Love the fact that you take the time to play and experiment for those of us that can’t get there 👏 73 Mark ZS6LEB
MARK KARAM thanks for the great comments. They are both very good radios. The HD1 is the best flexible radio with proper vfo. And the rt3s is without doubt the best value dual band DMR. So it depends what you're looking for value or flexibility
Chris Andrews. thanks Chris. You know us hams and gadget geeks, always on the lookout for a new toy to play with, never mind the value contained in using it 😜. In your use and opinion, are the color displays very similar?
Evan McRoberts you cannot program the radio from new as these radios are given out to taxi drivers pmr etc and they have channels set that are not supposed to be disturbed. To do what I have done you need to connect the radio to the PC and read the radio. Then on the left hand side there are options of the PC software and the section you are looking for is called menu items. And you have to check the box programme Radio. And then write the code plug back to the radio
Evan McRoberts at your leisure connect it to the computer. Create a few dummy analogue and digital channels that you can edit later. And tick the required box program Radio. And you will have a much more flexible user programmable radio
alex derpy racc The volume issue is still present. There is no need for incremental volume control. What’s wrong with the traditional volume control from 0 to maximum.
@@digitalanaloguehamradio I fixed it by putting a 20 ohm resistor in series and one in parralel with the speaker it surprisingly works. I'm happy about it because my parents were complaining about the noise lol
@@digitalanaloguehamradio it's a digital knob which is controlled via software instead of the variable resistor which is anologue that's why I like the uv5ra so much

You can enable it via the software on the computer and then you can edit on the device

@@stuballvaughan2119 hi thanks for this much appreciated
Great video Chris! Very informative. Will these radios transmit on all frequencies that it can receive like a Baofeng?
Is there a way to cut the Tx?
There is high and low Power. I have not used the radio for years. This is an old video. Good luck.
hi chris, need some tips my rt3s can't connect on my simplex hotspot but i can receive

Come posso aggiungere i contatti? Da sw mi da un errore e caricare a mano una lista contatti mondiale è quasi impensabile.
Does this radio have the Albert PTT tone?
Hi Chris- I also have the complaint about the loud volume even on setting-1. Because its digital volume, there must be a software fix. Any ideas?
Hi Bruce I have mentioned it to the manufacturers it is on their list of jobs to do

MARK KARAM same technology just different colour set. They are both not the easiest to read in sunlight. But they are readable
Hey Chris. I got an RT3S and I do not that that option in the menu. Do I need to program the radio using a cable to get these menus?

Chris Andrews ok and I’m guessing I can’t even edit existing channels right out of the box? I do have the option to create a zone and channel
