These Saudi shows are killing Fury's and Wilder's legacy and is it any wonder? They are putting all the fights against top contenders together, not letting them hide and run from one another the way Fury and Wilder used to, apart from against each other.

All that needs to be said is Fury dropped Wilder, Fury couldn't drop Usyk, Joshua couldnt drop Usyk, Dubois, the new flavor of the month couldn't drop Usyk and had to hit him in the nuts. Usyk is a warrior, takes shots, and has ventured into the land of the giants, basically 4 times now. He should get more credit, and he should retire. He's been fighting for a very long time. But he's stoic, lives a clean life, doesn't talk shit and speaks broken english. He is the master of unintentional mind games. He also talked to Dubois after their fight and told him not to give up, to keep pushing, and dont be hard on himself. Personally, I like watching fighters with skill, and Usyk is definitely skilled.

The three Fury/Wilder fights were 3 of the most exciting heavyweight fights of the last decade. All three had great pre-fight buildup and all delivered on the night in the ring. All the drama before, during, and after made them super memorable nights for true boxing fans. . Plus nine knockdowns. Great entertainment. Heavyweights always bring the thrills chills and spills. Tyson ko'd by Douglas, Ali beaten by Spinks and knocked down by tiny Henry Cooper, Lennox sprawled out by Rahman, Norton destroyed by Cooney...the list is endless. Are you not entertained.

Is it not about time to back off of Fury now? I mean the guy has a history of mental breakdowns, so sticking the knife in is likely going to cause even more problems for him. I'm not saying this as a Fury fanboy or anything, I picked Usyk to win and I've consistently mentioned how thin Fury's career resume is, but it's time to get off his back before he's pushed down a very dark path.
As for Dubois, he's really turned his career around and his confidence must be booming. I think he'll fall a little short against AJ though as I think that will be the biggest puncher he's faced and Dubois does get tagged quite a bit.

There is no doubt Fury is a great fighter when he sets his mind to it. But looking at his career his biggest achievements were Vladimir and Wilder. You cant really dismiss someone's wins because a former opponent at nearly 40 loses a few years later when they're the one that ruined that fighter in the first place. If thats the case we could find a way to bash most fighters resumes if we really wanted to. Wilder looks shot to bits because Fury has beaten the fight out of him and made him gun shy, its that simple.
As for Dubois, a good win but who has Hrgovic ever beaten apart from an arguable gift v Zhang and a load of stiffs? - And he beat Miller who was mostly banned for years and never beat anyone of note really. I dont think that makes Usyk's win over him any more special in all honesty.

I agree, although I will caveat that Hrgovic was very underwhelming. The fact Peddy Murphy, Aka Sherman Clump, Aka Jarrell Miller put on a far better perform against DDD is worrying for Hrgovic (or impressive for the African American Butterbean, idk).
It's sad really, Hrgovic demonstrated that in terms of raw talent he had the tools to pick DD to pieces, but it's clearly raw talent unrealised.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the headbutts from Dubois last night. At first I thought it was accidental because of the height. Then came 2 pretty obvious intentional headbutts (his head clearly moved without his body moving in). And then there was a final comical one that I noticed where the camera was facing Hergovics back, dubois hits him with a hand, both hands are now visible in view, and a second impact knocks the sweat from Hergovics head, and Dubois head appears from behind the impact - it looked like something out of a cartoon to me haha.
Honestly, for me it dirtied the victory. And I was rooting for Dubois.

You definitely can’t include Joshua in this - his wins over Parker, Povetkin, Pulev, Klitschko, Whyte etc were solid wins. Really nothing like that on Wilder’s record.
I guess what we can agree on is that Wilder has been mismanaged in his aim to become a significant name in heavyweight boxing. (Although to be fair if all he wanted was to earn millions of dollars then I guess you could say he’s been wonderfully managed).

One absolute last note. When Tyson Fury tried to clinch Usyk, he had no success because he would press his glove on Tyson's bicep. Therefore Tyson's clinching had no leverage. Sugar Hill trains boxers to use roughhouse tactics such and undue clinching just to lean on the smaller opponent. If Peter Fury had been the coach, he would have anticipated what Team Usyk would do to deal with the expected clinching by Tyson. However it is obvious that Sugar Hill had no idea that Usyk would know how reduce its effectiveness.
As Peter F. has said in interviews on a number occasions throughout the last 13 years, a coach must prepare a fighter to deal with how an opponent will react to that fighter's tactics and game plan. Team Usyk knew everything that T. Fury would bring to the table.
As Peter F. has already said, while the game plan must be simple for the bigger man, the bigger man still needs a variety of attack (offensively and defensively) to keep the opponent honest. He again has cited that no one should try to outbox the prime boxer but no one should try to maul the opponent from start to finish either. Sugar Hill seemed to have forgotten that a quick man who is 190 cm (6'3" )and 16 stones (224 lbs) has significant physical attributes which must be dealt with.
Look at American boxing, especially at the HW level, in the last 20-25 years and see how it has gone downhill. I am an American now staying in India. I know fully well how American sportspeople still overemphasize grit, determination, outpowering and outhustling the opponent. They still emphasize the emotional aspects of sport.
They seemed to have forgotten that boxing is chess and not checkers. While the themes from the Rocky movies have a lot of sensational appeal, it really does not apply to the sweet science of boxing. American consumerism is partly to blame as everyone loves excitement. Hill thrives on that. Unfortunately for him, boxing is not based on that. It is based on discipline, patience, sophistication, and a varied skillset.
    P. Fury has echoed the preceding but he still considered "A Voice in the Wilderness". Best he focuses on his stable.

I think we should acknowledge the possibility that the Fury's fights did take a lot out of Wilder... that said...
This is once again my problem with Fury having such a thin resume. A good victory or two can have holes poked in it. It's why one needs to build a decent body of work to put one's abilities beyond doubt. When Fury's legacy is beating 2 guys that others have beaten not long after him, it begins to look very unconvincing.
I feel like the old pre-AJ vs Ruis myth that only AJ, Fury and Wilder were capable of beating each other looks less and less like it was ever the case.
I definitely think the post-Mayweather obsession with preserving "0"s has a lot to answer for...

I think the beatdowns wilder took against fury made him gunshy and scared. I think fury took wilders soul and what was left he sold and made a small fortune to retire with.

Wilder has a career of fighting C/D level guys. I’m not having this “he’s had a 2/3 tough fights now he’s done” obviously he’s not in his prime at 38. But after Fury he’s no longer been able to fight the part timers and fringe contenders he used to. To get back for a title shot or get a big payday he’s had to actually fight someone decent. And we’ve found that he not now, nor was he ever at this level.
He has a manufactured, padded record to make it seem as though he’s Clubber Lang. He obviously has power but it’s been massively exaggerated by him, his team, Fury and the Fury fanboys.

@@zh1992 No longer or not willing. Joshua looked shot in his first comeback fight after the Usyk losses but has successfully rebuilt himself over the last 18 months and is looking much more complete and confident. Why on earth didn’t Wilder’s people do the same with him rather than put him in with his longtime sparring partner for one round then leave him on the sofa for 14 months before just throwing him to the wolves

@@smithwes2723 I agree completely that he wasn’t in fact shot but that’s what a lot of people were saying. But imagine if they stuck him straight in with an elite fighter straight after? I think last Saturday’s Matchroom v Queensbury have shown that Usyk, Joshua, Fury and Parker are in a different class from the likes of Wilder, Zhang, Dubois and Hergovic. Joshua will break Dubois pretty quickly…within 6 probably…he won’t need to quit this time. But, really the fight that we all want is still Joshua vs Fury.

Not really. Anybody who has actually followed boxing more than the past 5 years - ALWAYS said Wilder is a C level fighter - who was heavily protected. And Fury was always a HYPE job with a very thin resume.
And Neither were EVER 1 or 2.
AJ would have been undisputed if they were not cowards and avoided him.
Usyk vs AJ was always 1 vs 2.

Wilder is just finished now. It wasnt too long ago people were sayign aj is washed up and wilder would smoke him. A prime wilder would still destroy most the heavyweights of today, the guy is just 38 now and is not the fighter he was.

Wilder is at the end of his career. Been a pro for 16 years & won his first world title nearly 10 years ago, making several title defences. Diminishing Fury's wins over Wilder because Wilder is now a spent force is silly. By that logic, Hatton's win over Tszyu is poor because Tszyu didn't do anything afterwards.

Tyson Fury did such a great job selling his wins over Wilder that Wilder came out of those losses with a better reputation than he had before. I was personally never sold on the idea Fury was a better boxer than Joshua, Fury was just a great salesman and capitilised when AJ faltered vs Ruiz and Usyk. There is a reason that Wilder and Fury ducked Joshua, Ruiz and Usyk, there is a reason that PBC stepped in to offer Ortiz a Wilder rematch before he could step in to fight AJ it was all done to protect the myth that these guys were a level above Joshua without proving anything. On the other hand you have Joshua, stepping in and knocking out Wlad, Wallen and Ngannou after Fury went the distance. Joshua was never scared of putting his skills out there either in a fight against Wilder or Fury or against their previous opponents. Imagine if Usyk stepped up to heavyweight and beat Fury first, Joshua would have stepped up to fight Usyk for undisputed no problem and he would have done it without all the insults. Fury and Wilder are getting what they deserve.

Been thinking about this. Maybe the 3 fights have taken both of their souls? 2 fighters in their prime, 3 brutal fights, both now a shadow of what they were (particularly Wilder who taken the most beating).

All the trilogy fights were average fights. It has since been proved the Fury wins over wilder was nothing to shout about.Wilder does not like getting hit.Hes terrified of dementia creeping into his life as a by product of taking to much damage and also the pain.He looked skinny in his fight so I guess he's not taking fighting seriously and possibly not training aswell as he should and more than likely only hanging on for the final paychecks.

To be fair you have to say that Fury's beatdowns of Wilder finished the American. Wilder had not really boxed for years before turning up in saudi to cash out vs Parker. He got another chance at more cashout money last night and took it.
    Wilder will probably retire now.
