This movie has some of the coolest tech and effects I’ve ever seen. It feels futuristic but not impossible. It tickles the tech loving part of my brain
One of the rare movies in the last years that really blew me of. Not only the FXs were great but this time the producers behind it invested in something rare nowadays : a truely good script, based on a great idea, very well exploited. Besides this the acting performance of Jennifer Lawrence (you won't unfortunately see her in those 10 first minutes) is excellent, such is Thomas Newman's music, which really catches the mood of the movie. For me, regardless of what the critics say, this is going to be a classic (I even quote it in one of my videos about... sounddesign !) So to sum it all up : forget what the critics said and get on board of the Homestead II, on a journey of a lifetime.
Best movie of the year in my opinion. They did an amazing job creating an environment to get lost in, and they were able to get me invested in the world they created, and the characters, enough that I could have watched hours more of it. I was disappointed when it ended, but they also achieved a rare thing, in that the ending was satisfying, since I know it couldn't have gone on forever. But, I would love follow up movies. One, to show more of the their journey, issues they encountered, and the like. And another, to show what happened after the crew woke up. Probably not enough to sink your teeth into for most audiences, but get the right writers, and it could be great.
The deleted scenes shed a little more light, what I'd really love would be a movie following Gus and how he became a spacer, he'd been on every expedition since the Avalon started its first voyage, 5 trips I believe. He was technically 500 something years old, I'd love to see more of his story!

One of the main reasons i’d give this movie a high rating is because of the music. Thomas Newman really captured the exotic, futuristic, neo-modern atmosphere of the ship, with its slick textures. He gave it a silky smooth sound. Each color has a note and a character. Truly a differing marvel compared to other sci-fi films.

Maybe, YOU are an AI or ai [ ( I, yes i know the letters I (eye )and small l ( fell ) are identical and therefore confusing ) ] , an ai, and therefore cannot identify yourself with an actual, I or i.???
This movie was excellent. The story line was thought provoking and the adventure was dramatic. I'll keep this one as a classic Sci Fi. Hope there will be a follow up to this.
Didn't exactly hate it, but it was really predictable, like a collection of scenes from other movies. Too much Deus ex machina too, which is lazy writing. At least it looked nice.
Mon Core it’s sci-fi sure, but they tried to put real science in the film, artificial gravity, fusion drive etc. So putting stupid things in such as gravity failure on a ship which is rotating at around 3rpm and which is hundreds of metres in diameter suddenly stop is stupid. Plus the concept of a ship hitting an asteroid at 0.5c and surviving is total fantasy. Alongside other stupid things such as, there’s no way to put passengers back to sleep. So yes, it’s okay to question it... fuckwit...
One of the most amazing films I've seen in years. Both main actors (Pratt & Lawrence) are increible in that movie ! BTW it's also one of the rare blockbusters I saw in that decade that had something that I considered as long gone : a true screenplay ! Congrats to the team that made that true movie gem, can't wait for its DVD release !
I miss the first 9 minutes of this movie, and it was so much better. I would have hated to know the plot from the beginning. It made such a much more mysterious, unsettling movie. You have no idea of what is happening (or rather why this is happening), no more than the "passengers". This was a perfect pitch and a gold story. Someone stupid manage to turn it into lead with the first 3 and a half minutes. If ever you want to see this movie: Start the preview (and the film) at 3:40. And only look at the very beginning after having seen the film. You will say thank you.
I recommend this movie to everybody who loves space, science fiction and romance. One of the best space movies ever. I guarantee, you will come back for it just like we all did.
I loved this movie and the Arcadia was gorgeous. (spoiler alert) I though they missed an opportunity by not having their children greeting the awakening crew at the end.
There will be no children because theirs kid have no partner. And it’s 100 years to go. Do you really want your children suffer the loneliness for like 50 years till die?
absolutely thoroughly enjoyed the movie. excellent futuristic designs. it was a believable future. i found the plot decent. some minor plot holes but lots of decent movies have those. great sets too!
Perfectly summed up. The greatest fault of the movie was the fact that seemingly no one in the entire Homestead megacorporation (presumably) had thought of at least some kind of emergency system, wether it be for passengers waking up early, a backup computer or AT LEAST MORE THAN ONE autodoc. What if two people injured themselves at the same time? One person would just suffer and die because the single autodoc for 5258 passengers, including crew, is busy operating the other person. Aside from that, great movie.

@@emmanueloluga9770 There are many real world expamples showing exactly the missing of redundancy and sticking to the minimal reqierements. Examples? Where was the crew escape system on the space shuttle Challenger? It was planned, but cancelled for more payload. The Containership Emma Maersk got a complete power failure when the engine room was flooded. The Captain luckily knew it coming in advance - they made it, but they had to handcrank the hydraulic winches for hours to get moored in the harbour after a speedy suez canal run to avoid something like the blockade that happened lately with the Ever Given. But why is the flooding of the engine room dooming all electrical and hydraulical systems on board? One of the worst examples: Boeing designed an Airplane with one sensor deciding if the airplane can fly or is to be rammed into the ground by the ships computer. No one right in mind would design something like that, right? They did. So to me the little Avalon flaws are all but unrealistic. Overall it was an almost perfect ship!

I'm not really into sci fi. But I am a fan of Jen Lawrence. I'm so glad I stumble upon this video! I wish more movie companies would do this. And Sony would do this for more movies. Just from those few minutes I was intrigued and want to see more. I'm going to watch it soon.
I watched this movie, the story is awesome. The story is like a modern Titanic story, two people alone finding themselves and found love, and that scene where they went outside the Avalon to look at space is the same as in the Titanic where Jack and Rose went on the ship's bow to look at the sea. Also, the story is about colonization and continuation of human race on other planets and the ship's shape is like a DNA that represents life and development. Underrated movie I say.
