+George David . I. not even botherd.but I do think that tffs version of everybody wants to rule the world is definitely way better than Lordes version. hers is rubbish.
6 years after the last comment I stumbled across this, and I have to say it's beautiful. Love this song, love this cover. One of the best covers I've ever heard, along with Joe Merrick singing Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick road. Beautiful.
This Wonderful cover appears on the double disc compilation "Ruby Trax" of 1992. A great collection of cover classics released by various artists The compilation released by The magazine NME in these year
What a lovely surprise to hear this ! WOW, love the deep groove they add to the sound of the song ... very immersive indeed, I'm in love with this version of Bowie's classic ... never imagined it could sound so vast ...
Yes this was on the NMEs 1992 double CD "Ruby Trax". 40 tracks, all covers. Still have it. Has some other unique classic covers on it: Suede - Brass in Pocket Ride - The Model Marc Almond - Like A Prayer And was the album which had "MSP - Theme from MASH" on.
Great song, great cover version from a great band...just great! Really really great...and a great vid too, very creative, thanks for sharing. I love TFF and had no idea they covered one of my all time favourite songs from my youth. Now going to find and buy. Ty.
This is my absolute favorite of all of David Bowie's amazing work, and to find that another one of my favorite bands has covered this... If this is a dream, please don't wake me up...
Do you remember a guy that's been In such an early song? I've heard a rumour from Ground Control Oh no, don't say it's true! They got a message from the Action Man "I'm happy, hope you're happy too I've loved all I've needed, love Sordid details following" The shrieking of nothing is killing Just pictures of Jap girls in synthesis And I ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair But I'm hoping to kick but this planet is glowing Ashes to ashes and funk to funky We know Major Tom's a junkie Strung out in heaven's high Hitting an all-time low Time and again I tell myself I'll stay clean tonight But the little green wheels are following me Oh no, not again I'm stuck with a valuable friend "I'm happy, hope you're happy too" One flash of light But no smoking pistol I've never done good things I've never done bad things I never did anything out of the blue, woh-oh-oh Want an axe to break the ice Wanna come down right now Ashes to ashes, funk to funky We know Major Tom's a junkie Strung out in heaven's high Hitting an all-time low My mama said to get things done You'd better not mess with Major Tom My mama said to get things done You'd better not mess with Major Tom My mama said to get things done You'd better not mess with Major Tom My mama said to get things done You'd better not mess with Major Tom
George Milne . Yep. Just dont ask gary jules to do it. He cant even do roland & curts mad world. His voice is awful on it. I prefer curt. And roland sang this beautiful.
@@tinajaneoxnam.8866i saw TFF in concert, touring for Seeds Of Love back in the day and that concert was so brilliant. Roland's vocals were perfect and the band was amazing. I truly believe Roland is the musical genius/leader of TFF.
Jake the Playstation Gamer that's cos bands like tears for fears sounds cool with it but I bet lorde gary jules would be crap at it. They can't even do everybody wants to rule the world & mad world. Well actually I'm saying that gary did mad world lovely but than lordes version of everybody wants to rule the world. . But I do love curt & rolands version. He did ashes to ashes gorgeous. Roland I ment obviously.
In the book that came with the TFF,s B-sides compilation back in 1995, it's said that TFF were requested to choose a song/artist from a certain catalogue, and David Bowie was their go-to choice.
this is what happens when i delve into tff too much to a point where they even got to *cover* my all time fav and his song. i'm not crying i just have tears in my eyes
One of the things I love so much about this is that they kept the solo in the end, my favorite part of the song. Unless I'm wrong, I think I hear a couple wrong notes, but the cover is still amazing!
Tears for Fears are working on new material now in LA for release in 2014 I am speculating. This will be their first new studio album in 10 years but they still tour constantly and put on an AMAZING show!
Actually, those words right from the writings of Roland himself in the booklet of the album where that song appears. What i Do believe is that is a better recording sound that Bowie's original.
He was the soundtrack to my life from pre-teen till now at 58. I loved him and his music. His lyrics could take me completely away from all my hassles and worries. God bless him.
The diversity of airtists paying cover tributes to David in the wake of his untimely death 3 years ago is extrodinary and just goes to show how AMAZINGLY influential and revered he was! To name a "few" : Elton John, Smashing Pumpkins, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Duran Duran, Joe Sumner (Sting's son), Mr Hudson, Def Leopard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Stipe, Melissa Etheridge, Green Day, Spandau Ballet, U2, Tears For Fears, Lorde, Fishbone (Lead singer- Angelo), Lady GaGa, Culture Club and Rob Thomas are but a few of the MANY MORE! Suprisingly Bryan Ferry (RoxyMusic frontman and Bowie's contemporary/friend has not..to my knowledge) But BY FAR the most STUNNING and hauntingly amazing cover (IMHO) was Sting's live version of "Blackstar" - Bowie's swan song from his final album - "Lazarus!" Perhaps the closest we will ever get to seeing Bowie perform it live! It was SO BRILLIANT AND CHILLING..it was as if Sting was channeling Bowie's spirit!! No exaggeration..and I do not say that lightly..it was just THAT good! R.I.P. David Jones!!
Cheers mate, it originally showed up on NME's "Ruby Trax" comp in 1992. There are loads of great covers on it, if you don't have it by now you should track it down.
OK cover. As Roland once mentioned, this cover is rather a carbon copy of the original. After many failed attempts at recording it with a distinctive TFF sound, they at last settled for this version.
one of the best covers of all time by a great band. they breath new life into this song. I love it !
One of my absolute favorite bands covering my favorite Bowie tune.
RIP Mr. Bowie.
💯💯👋👋
I echo your words. Same here!
It's less a covder, but more a hommage, cause it's close as possible to the original. That's the difference...
Beautiful cover of one of Bowie's best creations.
Tuan Jim. Yeah I agree with you. I love Rolands deep voice. It's very strong.
It sounds like Bowie is in there in the background
Love this song, love this version. Roland has always been underrated vocally.
ZakSaaflondon . I like this version.
A big Bowie fan in the 70s.. big TFF fan in 80s this explains why both spoke to me so much... love both...
The BEST cover of this song !
Rest In Peace David Bowie. Rest In Peace Steve Strange. The influence you had over British artists of the 1980's is immeasurable.
+Dan Najera hear that !! definitely an influence on my own puruits in music !! strong cover by one of the greats as well RIP mr Bowie !!

A very excellent cover, thanks for the upload.
I like this. Sounds like Bowie in certain sections of the song. What a nice celebration of Bowie.

An amazing work by two of my most beloved artists!!
Some of the best rock, pop and electronica seems to always com from England! Fantastic cover, just perfect!
Yep! After the germans started this genre...
In fact NO one can sing a Bowie song BETTER than the master. But here? Idont know. It is great!
Purer Zufall . Rolands cool.
Ho happy, hope you happy too...

I've loved all I've needed, love
Sordid details following"
The shrieking of nothing is killing
Just pictures of Jap girls in synthesis
And I ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair
But I'm hoping to kick but this planet is glowing
Ashes to ashes and funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
Time and again I tell myself
I'll stay clean tonight
But the little green wheels are following me
Oh no, not again
I'm stuck with a valuable friend
"I'm happy, hope you're happy too"
One flash of light
But no smoking pistol
I've never done good things
I've never done bad things
I never did anything out of the blue, woh-oh-oh
Want an axe to break the ice
Wanna come down right now
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
My mama said to get things done
You'd better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You'd better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You'd better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You'd better not mess with Major Tom
ashes to ashes version tears for fears,ça c'est une pépite,c'est super bien fait.
jolie trouvaille.
if any band could do a bowie song justice it's tears for fears. superb.

OK, last comment, but this is so incredible it makes my stomach churn. I was surprised Bowie's passing had such a hard core effect on me.
Bowie's original is better, but this is a damned respectable tribute.
8/10.
actually probably one of the best tribute cover ever made
@@Luigilr I agree

Questo brano è qualcosa di stupendo ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Excellent cover!
Bands today don't even realize how far back their roots go, Mott the Hoople, Bowie, T for F. Just an amazing cover of a timeless song.
Best cover of the best song ever.

Bloody Brilliant cover.. Tff. Super band. 2022. 🇬🇧
Besos para ti Roland 😚.....me derrito ante tu voz!

only thing I love better than Bowie is Roland Orzabal. I'm glad he stayed so true to the original. First few lines I thought it WAS Bowie! Thanks.

tammas2000 I'm only thirteen, but I completely agree with what you're saying. Artists like Bowie truly did change the world
What a great cover! Bowie would have liked it, I think. Good job, Roland and Kurt.
Curt
Its on Saturnine Martial and Lunatic btw. A Roland Orzabal B side and outakes album
This song is from the TFF album Saturnine, Martial & Lunatic. 1993 I think.
1996

Very good cover of the original, it sounds more polished in terms of vocals, but Bowe's version has more character.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tend to agree; I like TTF, Bowie and this song, but this cover is a bit too close to the original to be really worth the effort
aujourd8 .well its a good job they did do a carbon copy of it as it would probly sound awful the tears for fears way.
ChrisInTheNorth well of course what did you expect a heavy metal or a rap version.
when was it recorded?
Just heard this one on the Bowie XM channel. First few seconds are almost too close to the original. Great cover.
Wonderful
don't mess with Major Tom! love Bowie and Tears for Fears
Replicating the unique keyboard and guitar is a challenge. I guess they just were up to the challenge.
Omg, two of my favourite artists combined! (TFF and Bowie)
=D
