This!!!!! This is a video I needed, because while I got a lot out of the other styling video, Jean and a tee/tank is my signature look (think 90's indie/grunge) so matching what I got about colour schemes with fiber ideas from this one. Amazing!!!!!!
What’s more relaxed looking than the boho look. And crochet is a staple of the boho look. Now I’m showing my age but jeans and a poncho or jeans and a granny square vest definitely give the casual “boho” vibe.
The linen yarn would be great for a long vest. I wouldn't waste it on a bag, it's a fine fabric. Maybe not as soft as others, but too good for a bag. That was a nice gift!
Wool can be cool as most natural fibers are. We’re used to heavier wool when it’s cold. However, the robes you see being worn by the desert dwellers in Egypt, for instance, are made from the wool from their sheep. A lot depends on the weight of the fiber as well.
Thank you for your videos. They are always fun. Id love to wear crochet items but i have lava running through my veins and i get wayyyy too hot to even wear socks, hats or gloves. Maybe someday I will be able to. Ill just keep making fun stuff for the future me 😊.
I’m in a bit of a hot-flash stage of life myself, so I can empathize! But the fall and winter get pretty cold and windy so I get a chance to wear all the crochet accessories!
My primary work uniform consists of jeans and t-shirt; leggings or cords and a sweatshirt when it's colder. Adding a cowl, a ruana, or a hexagon cardi almost always gets compliments without messing up my casual vibe or needing to be constantly adjusted or tugged at. Today's addition was a ruana in colors of fall - courtesy of Lion Brand Mandala yarn in the Groot colorway, minus the blue section - that got smiles and compliments. I usually coordinate the crochet piece with my shirt or outerwear instead of trying to match my denim color, because that way lies madness. 🤣
Shannon, I know you love the Fall color palette, and you do look good in those colors, but I have to say you look absolutely amazing in this color blue!!
I really love your background setup. It looks super cozy and the mirror makes it look as it the room was bigger and you had more yarn. Took me a minute to realize it was a mirror lol.
Hi Shannon. How fortunate to be given that big bag of yarn to make projects out of. I love the hat you are wearing & interested to see what you create w/ the linen yarn. Yes, casual is my thing so this video gave me some suggestions for future projects. ❤️
I live in jeans and sweats. Here, close to the Canadian border it gets cold and there’s nothing like a handmade cardigan or sweater over my sweats! Believe me, the satisfaction you get from creating your own clothes is unlike anything in this world! Jeans colored yarn (heathery blues and lavenders) make incredible casual sweaters you’ll want to make bunny pj’s you’ll never take off!
Helen is so cool and down to earth. What a cute beanie ! I rarely go over a 3 DK weight. I love the drape of thinner yarns, 4 and up is so chunky looking, except I like thicker yarns for warm cardigans but a thinner for drapey cardigans.
Ooh, Shannon, I'm so glad to see this one! I'm absolutely a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal. I just picked up some demin looking yarns at the hobby lobby dye lot sale; now I'm really excited!
I think figuring out how to pair your craft and your wardrobe can be a big challenge! I'm a knitter and it's taken a couple tries for me to figure out exactly what kind of knit pieces to make that I'd actually want to wear!
I love the relaxed look. It works for you. I used to love wearing jean skirts. I still do, but I can't find one like l used to wear. I found a dress that was jean material. I love it. It's a green color. I still want a blue jean skirt.😊
I’m on the hunt for one too! I used to have a favorite but my body shape has changed quite a bit so I’m not sure what to look for. But I’ll keep looking! Good luck on your search too 😃
I found a Jean skirt last year on line at Macy's. The brand is Cotton-On. It was not expensive, around $35. I was afraid of the fit because, I couldn't try it on. It was perfect. Very pleased. Good luck on your search!
I am so digging your dreamy drapey denim-y beanie! That one might be my favorite I’ve seen on your channel so far. It looks so effortless and polished at the same time. Speaking of drapey, have you ever done a drapey duster? It’s on my bucket list to make one I love to wear. ❤
I love your look today-your hat is so great! I really like your headband too. I just finished a poncho that will come in handy in the coming months. It gets pretty cold here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, although Summer won’t go away this year. 🥸
@nannalannacrochet DMC is a brand name. I’ve only seen their crochet thread in person but I think they have more. I know they also make embroidery floss (I think that’s what it’s called!) I’m not sure where you’d find DMC, when I saw it, it was in a Ben Franklin Craft store and I don’t think there’s any of those left anymore! I’ll have to look into it more 😃
Great topic and video. I often feel crochet patterns lean more towards the heavy winter vibe or the Gen Z bikini top vibe and I don't fit either of those.
I love the idea of using colour of stitching to create a garment for pairing with jeans rather than trying to match the multiple shades of blue. I comfy long line cardi in cream, mustard, tan or ecru would become a staple, I'm sure.
Oh my gosh!! I adore Helen Hunt's style! I watched Mad About You every episode in the 90s! One of my favorite shows! Your video is fabulous, and so is your new yarn! What a great gift that was. Someone had a good yarn stash!

What a beautiful gift haul! So exciting!! I was just looking at Knit Picks and saw a Stroll Tweed yarn in the color "Lapis" that looks incredibly like your mystery blue beauty. Can't wait to see what you make! I'm a jeans and t-shirt gal myself.
Love this! I’ve been wanting to find the time to come watch this video! Such a great topic and you nailed it! Helen Hunt! Ahhh…the memories!!! I fell in love with her after watching the movie Girls Just Wanna Have Fun with her and a very young Sarah Jessica Parker. 😂 those were the days! I love crochet so much but I’ll admit I have yet to make myself a crocheted wearable. I honestly have always preferred the look of knit wearables. I just like the look and feel of a thinner, smoother looking fabric. Some of it is my weight. As I’ve gotten heavier, I am less likely to wear anything with a lot of texture, even if I do like the look of it. That being said, I know there are a lot of crochet wearable patterns out there using different techniques that do create a more knit look to them. I feel a challenge coming on. Oh! And I am also so curious to give linen a try too, Hobbii had a newish cotton/linen blend yarn that I think looks gorgeous and I want to try it at some point. Ok, sorry this is so long, I just really enjoyed this video and the topic, thank you!
Hi Katie! Sorry it took me so long to respond! I can totally relate to changes in my weight and my body image. I'll let you know how that linen works out, I haven't started anything with it yet tho. I think you are on to something and that a video of crochet projects/patterns for people who prefer knit would be a great idea! I think a lot of people feel like that!
@@ShannonTalksYarn please don’t ever worry about how long it may take to respond. Even if you didn’t respond, that would be totally fine!!! I hate that kind of pressure myself and wouldn’t ever want anyone to feel that on my behalf either! I’m not always great about responding or doing so in a timely fashion. 🤷🏻♀️ I try. Yes!!! Love that idea for a video! I can’t see myself being organized enough to make a video like that, lol, but would love to watch that video if YOU wanted to make it! 🤣🤣 hint hint!! If I can remember the name of the shop on Etsy, I’ll come back and leave it, it’s a shop full of amazing crochet wearable patterns that use Tunisian and other crochet techniques that create mire opaque, smooth type of wearables that look less crochet-y. I know I have bought a couple of them, I just can’t remember the designers name.
I’m still trying to figure out exactly what my style is! Here’s a video I just did about my confusion: I don't feel like wearing this crochet... ua-cam.com/video/D3107UomnXo/v-deo.html
Hi Shannon, I don’t see the link for the pattern of that hat you’re wearing that granny stitch hat. I saw some videos online but I don’t know if it’s the same exact one as the one you’re wearing. Can you share please? Thanks.
Absolutely! Here’s my video where I share all the info: 3 FREE "Go -To" Beanie Tutorials I ALWAYS Use ua-cam.com/video/K61Rr-sALC8/v-deo.html And here is the original creator of this particular hat and her video on it: ua-cam.com/video/YhsSN_95txo/v-deo.htmlsi=y6xEI5KYClLaLo5R Hope this helps! 😃
Someone gave my son some bamboo socks(not handmade). They ended up getting laundered with everything else and did great in the dryer. If it was handmade, I would not allow it to go in the dryer.
I'm thinking that's an 80s thing. I always wore ironed jeans with creases ,t-shirts and blazers. I would dress it up with a scarf or a hat or whatever and that was the 80s
I made a fitted, faux denim vest similar to the one you’re wearing. I added jeans buttons to complete it. Highly recommend!
That’s so cool!

I love that!
Helen rocked the casual look in Twister....the original movie.
Great video, I had to find my jean jacket!
Great movie! You better pull that jean jacket out! 😀
Hi Shannon! I love how fine weight yarn gives projects more drape too! Looking forward to your collab with Mary! 🙂
Hi Jessie! I agree, I've really come to love it. Mary's great, I'm super excited to see her video!

Very true!!
I've worked with linen once and it was really hard! I haven't finished that project! I hope when I do it will soften on washing
I’ve always heard it does get softer, hopefully it will!

Right!?!?!? 😃
