- In this video series I will attempt to make a real Steampunk Strandbeest (a SteamBeast) by mounting a small steam engine on a strandbeest. A strandbeest without legs is not a strandbees and thin this video I add the legs and the gearing system to control them.
I am also giving away a Strandbeest kit. Subscribe and leave a comment for a chance to win one. I will announce the winner one month after the video is posted.
Plans for the strandbeest is available here: / shop

This works so beautifully. Congratulations on the great design and function. It's so nice when all the steps come together.
This is a great achivement. I had my doubts the idea would work but you proved me wrong. Well done.
I was also a bit worried that it would not work - so I am quite happy also :)
Very nice work, if you come to Switzerland, visit the St-Croix automata museum.
Oh my god!! You are so fucking cool!
Yo there's another steampunk Theo Jansen fan out here? I once designed a walking city using his mechanics. I lost the sketchbook, but am writing a graphic novel about it. Can't wait to see more of your work Ron!
Regarding gears, you seen to have it figured out, but I thought you should know Mathias Wandel has a software made to design wooden gears and it is really good.
Love your video!
Thanks, I do use the gear generator by Mathias Wandel for many of my designs. It is simple and works brilliantly!
