    My dad use to make something like this. But he would roll them out a little then fry them. Put some cinnamon and sugar in a small paper bag put the fried dough into the bag and shake. There were 8 of us kids and my dad couldn't make them fast enough. Sometimes he would put orange zest in the dough, then just shake them in sugar. Those were awesome. We called them sinkers.

    Very nice idea! As being a backer, I doubt whether putting salt directly on top of yeast is a good idea. Salt kills the yeast and prevent the dough from rising. Better to mix first the salt with the flower. Or add after mixing the rest, never directly on top of yeast.

    • @Dh-rp7gg

      I'm a Baker too and actually gasped as they dumped the salt in top of the yeast. Notice that it had very little rise and maybe that's what they wanted.

    These remind me so much of my Italian great-grandmother! We'd go over to visit her and she'd make them for us. They were called sfinge or spinge. She would put them in a big blue glass bowl after frying and pour honey all over them. Then us kids would take the honey bottle and pour more all over them and she would get such a kick out of it! She always had such a big smile on her face and was always laughing! 👼 She couldn't speak any English, but understood it perfectly. There always had to be someone nearby to translate for us. My grandparents who all came to America when they were younger spoke both Italian and English and my parents both spoke English but could understand and speak some Italian. My siblings and I were too Americanized to speak or understand Italian (which was a bonus for the adults when they wanted to talk without the kids knowing what they were saying!). Very unfortunate for us though, since when we got to high school, none offered Italian. 😖😢 Oh well, thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane! 😘

I'm third generation Italian( born in UK,as was my father)and am fluent in the language as I am in the local dialect. I applaud my parents for teaching us to be proud of our roots and no NWO will EVER succede in taking THAT away from ME. I will NOT become an anonymous person !!! I know exactly who I am,where I come from and am extremely proud of my heritage !!

    I first saw these in South Africa as a child. They were a huge component in Afrikaans cuisine. We could even buy them, with a savoury mince filling, from take-away shops. But freshly cooked with apricot jam is a definite crowd pleaser. It's great to see that this recipe has finally reached Germany and Eastern Europe (joke).

      hay que añadir al menos un poco de azúcar, para que la levadura funcione bien

    • @PurpleFox11
      @PurpleFox11 2 роки тому +2

      El azúcar es para activar mejor la levadura, pero no es necesaria si se deja reposar, ya que la levadura también puede alimentarse del harina. Con una cucharadita no son dulces, y a mi gusto con una cucharadita de sal no creo que sean salados (al menos a mi gusto). Es una masa base estilo buñuelo. Yo siempre hago a ojo pero es mas o menos como esta, pero no en bolsa, solo en un bowl y despues se pone (porciona) a cucharadas (con una se junta masa, y con otra se retira la masa sobre el aceite). Sino se puede hacer con mas harina (o preferentemente una parte de fécula de maiz para que queden mas suaves) hasta que quede consistencia para modelar, y se pueden hacer rosquillas.

    Great idea! thanks for sharing. We call this "pişi pişi" in Turkey. My grandmother used to make syrup and dip those hot buns in the syrup or we could just eat it plain with white cheese. It is also called "lokma" and given out after funerals or in memory of our deceased loved ones.

      Ist das ein süßer Teig? Beim Aufschneiden hatte ich eher das Gefühl es hatte die Konsistenz eines Brötchens? Die Idee finde ich ganz toll, aber leider ist es nicht offensichtlich was es tatsächlich ist ???? Don't add your salt until after the yeast has bloomed. Salt will kill the dry yeast. Just an FYI.
