Andy, interesting article. In fact Jet2 acquired another 737-800 this season and painted it in the red tail scheme. Looks like both brands will continue side by side for the foreseeable future.
I am a German who sees condor planes from time to time. And you either love the livery or hate it. It definetely is iconic and a good marketing move. If you see the airline fairly often, you'll get used to it :)
@@SebsTruckStopFor us Germans there is just two opinions about the nee condor livery You hate it Or You like It. But the old Thomas Cook livery ? Nope. We all hated it. Every single German hated it. The condor logo was missing except on the winglets and the condor logo is what we want on condor aircraft. Hence why condor created that hybrid mix livery out of the mast Thomas cook livery to bring the logo back, when Thomas Cook went bankrupt. Before going to that sock livery. In fact the hate for the name Thomas Cook was so great in Germany, that they had to repaint the airplanes again with the name "condor" written in large letters on them. When the company Thomas Cook (before they went bankrupt) acquired condor, They of course painted all aircraft the same and put the name "Thomas Cook" on the fuselage like with all airlines under the Thomas cook brand. So basically every Condor aircraft looked identical to the Thomas cook aircraft in the UK. Except a small *Powered by condor* painting near the tail. The backlash was so great and we Germans hated that name so much, that the customers were literally refusing to fly condor at all. It had such a negative impact on the airline, that thomas Cook was forced to repaint the aircraft remove the name Thomas Coom from the forward part of the aircraft and put the name condor back on the aircraft just to get the customers to return 😂😂 Because people were literally refusing to book flight with Thomas cook. So condor (owned by Thomas Cook) was therefore doing business as Condor with their original name instead of Thomas cook. The livery stayed the same but they were forced to put the name "condor" on the aircraft (with the exception of the thomas Cook logo on the tailfin) Which is the reason why condor was more or less the only airline in the Thomas cook group which was doing business under their old name/under a different name then Thomas Cook. Because 99% of all Germans were like: Who TF is that damn Thomas Cook ?!?! I want to fly an airline and no restaurant! Cook ? I though that's an airline and no kitchen?!? And why is his name written on that aircraft ?!? I want to go to my holiday destination with an airline and not call the airplane by the name of the owner?!? Screw it I'm flying Lufthansa or Air Berlin (Back then still existing) instead !! So Condor which survived the Thomas cook collapse and is now again a normal airlines is now of course using a livery with would immediately tell everyone: *It's a condor airplane* Because that is what we Germans want to know: Hey look that colorful sock there ? Yeah that's our airline codor from back home in Germany. We like that airline.
Condor's new livery is unique and just fun. I'm glad someone strayed away from the new 'eurowhite' wave of liveries that has the tail colour extending down to the fuselage, with just a logo on the actual body. Condor's makes us talk about it which is what a business wants.
This isn't a new phenomenon. Back in the 60s Channel Airways bought a load of Vickers Viscounts from the American airline Continental and was allowed to retain the rather smart golden livery that they had worn in the USA. The livery was adopted by other types in the Channel Airways fleet such as the One-Eleven and Trident. Not the Comet though which retained a basic Olympic Airways colour scheme as the company was running out of money by then. The airline folded in 1972.
I don't think the new Condor livery is easy on the eyes, no... but I like that it's unique amongst a time of liveries that have become minimalist and quite frankly, bland.
If what I've heard is true, the inspiration came from when Jet2 leased the two 75's from Allegiant, the ceo loved the livery so asked Allegiant could they copy the livery to use in Europe.
Absolutely ❤ Condors new livery. Instantly recogoniseable at any airport, holiday airline beach towel style and decades away from its Lufthansa beginnings! Too many white aircraft, bill board titles and logo tails, after all this is an airlines canvas to promote its brand, and this 'striped' theme continues inside the cabin and looks calssy and stylish. Well done Condors design team😉
Apparently, the guy from Condor that designed that livery, and the guy that signed off on it were colour-blind twins working part-time for Condor while awaiting the arrival of their guide dogs.
I didnt like the new condor livery at first but after seeing it for the first time at Düsseldorf Airport I changed my mind. It looks alot better than the pictures make it seem!
To what can you compare the new Condor livery? The Cheshire Cat? A barber pole? A prison uniform? A zebra? A Slinky? Tan lines? Condor flies A339 into my home airport (PDX) during the summer, and every time I see one fly over, I ask myself: "Why would a civilized human being do that to such a beautiful airplane?"
I like the new Condor livery. I see it flying around here in Berlin from time to time and when planespotting i like to call them "Ringelsocken" (striped sock) :D Definetly a special livery but it for sure sets them apart in the skies as its super easy to distingush. ✨
This goes back a while, but check out the TDA (Toa Domestic Airlines of Japan, later JAS and then JAL) A300 livery around 1980. It was basically the same as the rainbow color livery that Airbus used for demo flights of the A300 around at that time.
I've always felt the Jet2Holidays/Allegiant livery is super tacky - it just screams mainstream, resort hotel, bargain bin travel. It's a shame because I do like the original silver livery - it stands out from the competition and feels dignified for a budget carrier (minus, of course, the 'Friendly Low Fares' in that hideous type). And I actually really like the new Condor livery - I see why it would be divisive but it's so distinctive and playful - to me it's how you do leisure carrier livery right (as opposed to Jet2Holidays/Allegiant).
The one that gets me is how South West Trains and Southwest Airlines ended up getting similar liveries. I’ve never figured out why as there’s no obvious connection between them apart from the name.
South West Trains was a Stagecoach operation. A lot of Stagecoach buses and trains had the same theme going back many years, not sure how Southwest Airlines got it from!
Great video! At least I now know who the copycat is. The old livery was way better than the Jet2holidays livery. It would be bless to see it painted on their A321neos but I don't think it's a possibility. Listen, never say never. Condor's livery is really starting to grow on me. At first I hated it with passion and now I'm starting to warm up to it. The only colour I'm not a fan of is the green.
Yes they copied it, or rather stole it! They really need to change those awful fonts ‘friendly low fares’ & ‘package holidays you can trust’. Looks like an awful font you’d pick in your primary school homework 🤮
These liveries looks similar because of joint ventures or share uptakes etc, like Copa and United for example. But what about Neos, who has nothing to do with Thomson/TUI? To my knowledge they have nothing to do with each other yet they look like the same airline?!
Very interesting video, thank you. It may be just me but I'm confused about the Star Alliance Livery seemingly on various Airlines aircraft; may be the subject of a future video. I quite like the Condor livery if only because it's completely different.
When an airline joins an alliance part of the deal is they have to paint a percentage of the fleet in the alliance livery. That's why you see star alliance/one world/sky team liveries flying around. The star alliance livery is the second iteration with the 'clothes line' livery being the previous if im correct.
So literally the only reason then is because Jet2 acquired a few Allegiant planes? So there's no real connection there, they just decided to share liveries. I guess that could have been summed up a lot quicker than it was.
Nowadays these companies have no imagination with their liveries they are all basic, with the color schemes. What about those liveries that makes you remember the airline. Alaska airlines new livery is one that I can see some hope in
I can barely stand to even look at the new CONDOR livery. HIDEOUS! Not elegant, and obviously must be very expensive to paint in 3 or 4 different colors.
Thx for the video I never understood why some airline would accept something like that and is then not complaining of being copied by another BTW I love the new Condor livery😁🟥⬜️🟨⬜️🟩⬜️🟦⬜️🟫

I love the new Condor livery, it’s fun and really unique, unlike many liveries which are just a logo on the tail and the name painted on the side
yoooo lux is here

Hope Jet2 silver does appear on the NX and upcoming 320neo!
Loathe the Condor beach towel livery - far too migraine inducing!!!

Maybe the painters ran out of blue and yellow paint

Agree Andy, much prefer the red white and silver Jet2 livery and it works on the interior also

I am really not a fan of the condor striped livery. It makes the plane look like a sock. I absolutely love the Thomas Cook one
Condo's livery is a Thomas Cook X Lufthansa ship.

Condor livery is very good , a bold step ahead of boring and more traditional designs you generally find around the world .

Enjoyed this, I thought it would be five minutes of Andy saying “it’s a co-incidence”. Loved the little fact about the call sign.
Brussels Airlines new livery and Croatia Airlines' livery is also very interesting
Personally, I love condor's livery. Reminds me of the mcdo plastic glasses we have in france
I am a fan of the new condor liveries😊

Apparently, the guy from Condor that designed that livery, and the guy that signed off on it were colour-blind twins working part-time for Condor while awaiting the arrival of their guide dogs.
That new condor theme IMO isn’t ugly, it’s just super unique and weird.
I quite like the new "beach towel" livery of Condor. Just wish they'd use more colours.
I didnt like the new condor livery at first but after seeing it for the first time at Düsseldorf Airport I changed my mind. It looks alot better than the pictures make it seem!
In my opinion, I love the Jet2's white, silver and red liveries more than the Jet2holidays style.
COPA and united airlines livery look strikingly similar as well

New condor livery: COLOURFUL ZEBRA

When I was flying to Stansted, I thought those were allegiant planes
I actually prefer the red livery, I tried flying jet2 just to fly on the red plane. 😅. But I got the blue and white.
I didn't realise, but it makes sense, that Jet2 lease extra aircraft over the summer months in their busier period. Now I know!
the condor livery is alright, i think people just hate change :p
I really don’t like the new condor livery, it definitely looks bizarre. I preferred the Thomas Cook one better
The fact that most people say Air India's new livery is ugly, but say Condor's new livery is beautiful...
@@ayaananw The tail is a bit weird, but I think that everything else looks fine, there are a lot worse liveries imo
Flew with Jet2 on the A330 fuel tanker plane, that was on lease to jet2.Nice plane 2,3,2 seat plan
tui is the most unique imo
0:36 such a beautiful plane, but as someone who’s worked it i fucking hate it

i love the conodor livery because they didnt go down the aer lingus/luftansa/qantas route when making a new livery
That vertical blue and white striped livery at the end gave me an instant sense of motion sickness! 🤢
Something i found out is that if jet2 name there aircraft there usually in the normal red silver white collors
It’s so obvious now it’s even pointed out . I always wondered why 2 liveries . Thanks 🧱👍🏼
Another one is Copa and United’s old livery
Apparently the next 321neo, G-SUNE will be in the classic colours!
Let's see, we would love that!
Why does jet2 have so much turbilance
Most of them are boring and total rubbish now anyway
I Like condor’s new livery.
I’m turkey and that’s more better
Also southwest airlines in the US and south west trains in the UK
I’ve wondered this for years 😂
As a Allegaint airlines fan they did a partnership

I have never heard of Jet2 airlines until now
Allegiant is a VERY low cost airline. It’s better know as Trailer Park Trash.
They’re quite big in the UK, your typical cheesy holiday airline
TUI 787 livery is so clean
Condor livery’s looks like candy can
The silver and red Jet2 looks nice
In march 2011 jet2 leased an allegiant 757 under the reg G-LSAM. From then they decided to create there own
Both copyed varig
I never knew about that
i really like the condor strip livery
Thanks Andy,

It is shocking striped blue to get attention, but why do airlines pick blue or a shade of it for their cabin? Is it calming color?
Good video and I loveeee the new condor livery!
