Objection! He was right the first time! The cat's name is John! The fact that it is referred to as "Garfield the cat" by multiple people is irrelevant. They are simply describing a lazy cat!
The cat has simply been called a garfield so much that it responds to the word garfield, this is similar to a murderer responding when referred to as "the murderer".
The cat's name is John. John never actually refers to himself as John, John the cat has associated the human with John as he hears the adjective Garfield more than he hears the word John.
Case closed, challenging my solid argument in the replies section is discouraged.
