@thisistmrw what is it then? i found out about this music simply because of the name chillwave. i'm happy for that. if it were called synthpop, i probably wouldn't have checked it out.
@DancesWithDinos Yep that's pretty much what I was getting at so you answered you own question there! And yes he has taken a new 'live' direction with new stuff is brilliant...But there was nothing wrong with the old sound, a nice mix of J Dilla and The Beach Boys But also, when I hear 'Chillwave' I just hear 'Chillout' which makes me think of middle aged professionals from Lodnon in sandals and ponchos, hence the cringeing.
sounds like a bit of reverb, ping pong style delay with the filter low cut and perhaps a bit of chrous not sure if he uses live autotune. that'd be a good starting point.
See how simple the chords and playing style are? You'd think we'd all be bombarded with gloriously good music by now. Instead we still have to 'look in the right places' like a treasure hunt. :(
@WellzTheDude - well I just listened to the original..I listen to it everyday... But the drums stay on rhythm it's the samples in the background the jump off beat and not the drums..and Chaz produces the songs and the "band" re-produce it for live performances
bur i dont really think that's true. on the original it just changes into a normal half time rhythm after the verses, but here, he kind of throws it, and even messes up chaz a few times.
@Anestheticfun Well meh. He shouldn't have trouble "keeping up" when he's already speeding up. Anyways, I'm discrediting him at all, It's just one of those things you have to constantly remind yourself of.
@MetalGinger Agreed, he not only speeds the entire piece, he has the worst sense of timing ever. Nothing more than a highschool battle of the bands drummer at best. Andy is awesome however!
People need to stop calling this 'chillwave', it's such a cringe-worthy term made up by middle aged journalists without a clue Runs the risk of killing this movement before it's even begun
the guy who plays the "drum machine" its amazing.. such a pure sound there
Roland spd s I just uploaded a vid playing one
nice use of the Mellotron Flute
@lumberjack922 i think he uses a quick delay and reverb...I'm not super sure though

yeah man, sick stuff. This is really impressive :D
Love it
i really want to see him live
@lumberjack922 Yeah quick delay, lots of reverb, and a little chorus too. Maybe other stuff too, it's hard to pick out.
@xraydelta1 Wow. Just wow. People on the internet like you puzzle and amaze me.

Awesome setup, to me at least, those drum pads are just the coolest things!

chill bros..
Don't put emphasis on the genre what really matters is if you like it :)
thats cool
@JiminyFlitz im sorry you see things that way. chilling out and listening to your own music should be the most logical solution :/
@HeyitsAl3c can't we all just...chill out?
See how simple the chords and playing style are?

"I dont think they were around in the 80s..."
@jpnicolacopoulos Korg R3
I think most of the chillwavers have moved on from chillwave, but I'll always think of them as the chillwavers... that's just me I guess
@easyjro hey man, leave the aliens alone
bur i dont really think that's true. on the original it just changes into a normal half time rhythm after the verses, but here, he kind of throws it, and even messes up chaz a few times.

I'm sorry but the drummer speeds the entire piece. It's really drastic and irritating. That being said...I absolutely love this song.
@xraydelta1
shutup
@MetalGinger Agreed, he not only speeds the entire piece, he has the worst sense of timing ever. Nothing more than a highschool battle of the bands drummer at best. Andy is awesome however!
