Glad to see you back and loving the information you're sharing. I watched your previous build, more than once I might add. I understand with family and work you can't keep rolling out a new video everyday, but we'll take what we can get. Hat's off to you my friend and good luck on the new house.
seral altidor seems to work beautifully so far. Im three months in with 0 nitrates still. I am doing an update soon because I did lower my feeding. This wasn't because of nitrates or phosphates, it was to find the right balance between healthy fish and minimal glass cleaning.
I also had gfo, carbon and bpr running on my 150g system and my coral thrived fairly well. It depends on how much flow in both gfo anf bp reactors is maintained. Yes any access filtration could lead to system crash, so be careful.
You are the man I need to talk to... :) Hi, I have a 65 gallon cube set up for about 3 months, I am running bio pellets, skimmer in a sump. Along with that I have a large canister that just contains pads and sponges with bio balls...it actually works like a wet/dry filter since the water cascades on the bioballs. Ok my water chemistry is Ph 8.2, Ammonia 00, Nitrates 00, Phosphates 00, Mag 1350, Calcium 400, Alk 8. My glass, sand and rocks have no algae. My concern is that it appears that having such low nutrient setup is detrimental to my corals...they don't look as happy or like they are thriving. I don't have as many fishes as you do but I try to feed them as much as I can and frequent trying to get some readable levels of nitrates and phosphates. What would recommend for me to do...I always though that having 00 ammonia, Nitrates and Phosphates were an aquarist goal.
Another interesting video! It is no surprise to me that you have low nitrate and phosphate bearing in mind the size of your skimmer and pellet reactor. If you have not already done so, check out the videos done by reef dynamics as they build pellet reactors and there are a few good tips in there about longer term use. Check out how much he feeds his test tank!!! It is also true that the bacteria that consume the pellets appear to reduce nitate at a greater rate than phosphate so some phosphate removal media is often used alongside pellets... Your fish look plump to me so I dont see the need to increase feeding...other than curiosity of course :0) What tst kits do you use? The Red Sea comparitor nitrate and phosphate kits are easy to use pro grade units....
Peter Derrick agreed on everything. I am just pushing it with feeding just to see and what I do see is way more algae, especially on the glass. still reading 0 nitrates /phosphates. I then reduced to 3 cubes a day and glass algae was way better and fish are still plump and fat after 1 month. Only have to clean glass every 2-3 days as opposed to every day! It really was just to see how well the system could handle it but i think with that much dissolved organic waste, the algae gets it before the skimmer and pellets can! I am pretty happy now at 3 cubes a day.
great video men! dawn that tanks look awsome i have a question,i just building up a new tank and whant to run the tank also with biopellets and rowaphos.. butt is it better to run the tank from the beginning with bio and rowa? or is it better to start later with a new tank with the bio and rowa because iam starting a hole new tank! thanks best regards the dutch-men
Great video and good information. As you know you can never have zero phosphates, other wise what would the bio pellets eat. The sea over a reef is 0.005ppm phosphate. I keep my tank at 0.02. My nitrates are 0.2. Zero phosphate/nitrate would kill corals, but most test kits will tell you have zero, when you will always have a small amount. Looked at your tank on aquatic log. Interesting reading. I am losing about 1 D.K.H per day. I dose Tropic marin balling light, with dosing pumps. I only ever reset the pumps once per month, if I need to up the dosing. My d.k.h is a constant 7.7. Corals should grow/consume the same amount every day. I test once per week for ca, d.k.h, mg. I see you are having a few P.H problems. I wouldn't worry about it. Many S.P.S reefs with calcium reactors run at P.H 7.8 and do just fine. Interesting to know how much D.K.H you are losing per day. It is clear the amount of D.K.H you are dosing is needed, which means corals are growing. If corals are growing they are Happy!!!.
TheFishTank Doc. As far as I am aware the bacteria consume the the carbon food source whilst converting nitrates / phosphates in the process. Yes I am sure corals are happy as the tips are white with growth and the colors are lovely. I am just interested to see how much this system can handle before getting problems. I am sure I can fix any problems as I have good systems to do that. I have been feeding heavy for 3 weeks now so watch this space and i'll be sure to keep you updated.
Just worked out how you are able to feed 8 cubes a day. The answer is now obvious. Leaving aside the bio pellets, and filtration, It's The food you are feeding. I have always used Gamma Blister. From the fishes point of view there is little difference between Gamma Blister, and Ocean Nutrition. The big difference is that Ocean Nutrition sell 100 gram packs of 35 cubes. Gamma Blister sell 95gram packs of 20 cubes. Your 8 cubes total 22grams. My 8 cubes total 38 grams, nearly twice as much.
Beautiful Reef man! had a question do you see any problems with keeping your nitrate and phosphate at 0? Reason I ask i also have o phosphate but I think it does affect some of my corals. Especially my zoas start melting away. Chk out my build when u have some time.
Pedro loaiza so far so good man, All corals are doing well with it. I only have minimal zoas and they seem to exist rather then thrive., mind you its hard to say as my angel occasionally picks at them.
Looking at aquaticlog you are having problems with P.H, and getting corals to grow at an even rate. Well that's what you get with an over stocked tank. Adding reef buffer to correct P.H will only alter the P.H in the sort term. Maybe less than 12 hours. Adding to much at ayt one time could send the P.H shooting up. Not good for Corals. If you have a low P.H, but 7.8 or above, I would just live with it.
+reef roid Bio pellets aren't changed, they are consumed. Just add more new ones as the old ones are "disappearing." I've moved-on to Red Sea carbon dosing. Certainly much more accurate than guessing carbon pellet consumption. Best of luck!
+Robert Nadeau RedSea's NO3 PO4 -X is great for tunning NO3 levels in a very effecient duration with an automatic dosing pump machine! But, I noticed as far as the NO3 PO4 is near zero, then the trace elements and other essential substances should be kept at a reasonable levels with a method. - Now I am using the hybric method, which's Ecosystem Miracle mud bed (Denitrfication & Supplementing all essential elements + Macro algae (PO4 consumption :)

Glad to see you are back! Your first videos helped us in starting our first reef tank. Please keep videos coming missed your updates.
Cheryl Morris will try to and glad I have helped out ;)
That's awesome. I'm a big feeder as well but I run biopellets and a big skimmer to keep my numbers down. Glad to see I'm not the only one

Awesome shady waiting to see you again. I am proud to say I'm finally planing my first tank. (On a much much smaller scale lol)

Syed Hasan I'm not familiar with the word careful ;)
Love that response! Best of Luck my friend. :)
That's amazingly fast set up man. Good show
Dee From Brooklyn cheers man

I've transferred mature rock and livestock over to new tanks numerous times with no ill effects ever . And I've never run bio pellets
Ps more vids please mate , really enjoy watching them
holy shit its been a long time man! :D
Good to see ur tank and hear your voice again
StudioReef cheers pal ;)
He is back!
How is the tank doing now after 5 years. Are you still using bio pellet?
Another interesting video!

Great Video Series! SPS are my favorite. Subscribed!
How do you have angel fish in a coral tank ?
Damn glad your back brother! Great vids once again.
Where you at dude??
Dubaiiiiiii! thanks for asking :)
Keep up with the videos bro im learning so much
great video men! dawn that tanks look awsome

what's the big angel at the beginning of the video please
What test kits do you use ? And
What do you think to the ati T5 compared to the LEDs you was using ?
is it an emporer angel . if so does it not eat yr corals
Whats the update for the new tank ?

TheFishTank Doc. ahaaa! that must be it then ;) I thought 2 cubes wouldn't be much!
No one has informed you not to run gfo and biopellets at the same time?
JoeKoors ive seen many people running them both with great success.
Beautiful Reef man! had a question do you see any problems with keeping your nitrate and phosphate at 0? Reason I ask i also have o phosphate but I think it does affect some of my corals. Especially my zoas start melting away. Chk out my build when u have some time.

any updates please
Couple of questions . Do you change you bio pellets? And how often do you change out you rowaphos?

How long did it take for your bio pellets to kick in bro
Kane Hoder Instantly! I populated with them with denitrol and microbacter 7 and I never had more than 0.02 ppm
running Whit mp10?
What kind of bp reactor is that?
Dario Fernandes Reef Octopus Bio Churn External Reactor 200Ext
thanks for a good informations. Very nice tank . i subscribed looking forward for more videos.
Great info
Love it keep it coming.
tank looks great check out my mix reef if u get a chance happy reefing
