If they ever do a Dewey Cox biopic they should get John C Reilly to play him.
Lol
Fucking NO ONE else could play Dewey!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💯
I don’t see it.
Come on, they don't even look alike.
Yes yes yes yes, soooo much yes. You win the internet
Y'know, everyone kisses Dew Cox's ass because he's some kind of musical genius but a recent tell all book written by his drummer Sam reveals that he never once paid for drugs. Not once!
Yeah, also he got #metoo 'd pretty bad recently. Guess it was revieled on the 15th anniversary of his death last year that he had been kinda aggressive when pickin up on groupies after a show. Got cancelled..... Can you believe that? Dead for years... Cancelled now. Smh
@@5trezip23 And he never once paid for drugs. Not once!
@@5trezip23 you ruined the joke
He also slept with the wives of all his band members and he never paid for drugs. Not once
@@5trezip23 bro what's the joke
My grandfather purchased the 78 for "Walk Hard" upon its release, but it was lost in the attic. The other day, I found it and put it on his record player and he got up out of his chair and started dancing. One of the most touching moments of my life.
Then he fell out the window
Hard
I found a first print 78 of “Guilty as charged” at the flea market the other day still in the plastic
Are you sure that isn't an original Nate Cox? Back when shellacs were still around, Dewey was just a kid and not playing music, but his brother was while he was still unhalved.
“When Cox was just a child, he tragically cut his brother in half in a freak machete fight accident”
Chas Sheppard worst step brother ever
Wrong kid died
I've not seen the movie, but that line had me rolling. I may watch it now simply because of that line.
It was a particularly bad case of someone being cut in half. The doctor was not able to reattach the bottom half of his body, to the top half.
He did loosing his fleece over it...
I’m 13 years old but I love Dewey Cox. Other kids my age just listen to stuff like Paul Mcartney of the Beatles. I feel like I was born in the wrong generation.
Lucky you, I'm 14 and all the kids I know listen to Johnny Rebel and Screwdriver. Sad time to live in.
This is how you do April Fools...
No doubt - loved it!
In all seriousness
What do you mean? He sounds like he was a pretty cool person?
I only realized today, year and a half later that this was a joke.
I remember looking up the guy and not finding anything and I just assumed his stuff was just unavailable online like with King Crimson back then.
Then I saw some clips for a film called Walk Hard, and I thought to myself, this looks familiar. So I looked it up and found out its a Judd Apatow comedy film parody of rock star biopics
I am so pissed right now, but I know Im the only one to blame for this.
This needs more views and this needs less views.
I'm afraid you're right.
make more ytps.
Numberer1 hahah hahaha!
Numberer1 their is the Burger King foot lettuce of music theory
It needs more less views!
"If Elvis and Buddy Holly are the Cain and Abel of rock and roll, Bruce Springsteen is Zachariah, Iggy Pop is Methuselah, and, of course, Neil Young is the wise prophet Ezekiel, then what does that make Dewey Cox?"
Moses. He split his brother in half.
Satan
Thor?
Was that from Return of Bruno?
@@Goyleguy266 That's Solomon. But let's not split hairs.
finally, dewey getting more recognition. such an underrated artist. they criticized his life choices but never realized he's one of the greats.
Cox is an acquired taste for a lot of people.
Austin Full they are gold
That Johnny Cash guy ripped off Dewey a lot.
but scaruffi said that the wrong kid died
It sucks that so few people even know who Cox was. Definitely the most underrated artist of all space-time, and arguably the Mozart of modern history.
Too bad his work with Charles Manson was never released
@The Casual Gamer I heard that was just a rumor and he only met him once, but who knows with Dewey's story. And people thinks mansons life was crazy.
The joke is great, but what I think is amazing is how much detail and nuance the movie put into the song. It actually sounds like a Brian Wilson jam from those days (I think they even got Van Dyke Parks to write the lyrics) and it even gives insight to the main character Dewey.
Wow that's so awesome
@@andriealinsangao613 I was surprised to see his name in the credits.
@@supernintendo182 Nice!!
I was just gonna post this. So true.
More than just lyrics- Parks intentionally composed the song in Brian's style.
The best part of Walk Hard is how the music is legitimately good and well thought out
Going deep on musician humor. Haha amazing!
What are you doing here

kidding aside, Dewey Cox songs are really fuckin good.
Well in my dreams you're blowin' me...some kisses.
Yea they are
He won a grammy for Walk Hard (JCR not Cox off course haha)
Seriously one of the best original soundtracks ever made. Right up there with This Is Spinal Tap.
The soundtrack album were legit masterpiece
I had the pleasure of meeting Dewey Cox in a Walmart. He was very nice and down to earth.
"And you never paid for drugs. NOT ONCE!"
Not once!
What y'all doing in here?
IveGotToast get out of here dewey, you dont want any part of this shit
Why...is it addictive?
Shaggymatt92 Jacobs It's not habit forming.
WHY ARE THERE NOT MORE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS MOVIE
It's my favorite.
It's one of the greatest movies ever
IKR? I mean John C. Reilly has a great voice and the songs and scenes are excellent! "The wrong boy died!"
I think now that it's on Netflix it is gaining the recognition it deserves
I thought this movie sucked
This is incredible. The love and attention you put into this is second only to what Walk Hard's filmmakers put into Walk Hard. This is, as John Lennon referred to Guilty as Charged" a "Great record. Great record."
Glate leh-curd.
Times like this I like to remember another John Lennon quote “Paul McCartney can such me balls”
@@wackojacko4580"I wonder if yer songs'll still be shit when I'm 64"
@@RobGradyVOGeorge was just trying to get some of his songs on the albums while his guitar… quietly whimpers.
@@Logan912 "well you are the quiet one, so why don't you SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
I'm glad you remembered the Beach Boys in this. The people who made that second-rate biopic did a great injustice by not mentioning the close friendship Dewey and Brian Wilson had.
Dewey Cox is one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century.
Wow, gold right here. Remember my dad used to show me the great Cox's works from when he was growing up, still one of my favorite artist. RIP
He died three minutes after a performance. To this day I regret that I never got to see him live.
"King of Karate"
- Jack White (as fuckin Elvis, lol)
only two people know it,the chinese and the king baby.
Look out man!

@@Logan912 "ahaha yeah....what the fuck did he just say???"
You're one of the few people to really get a handle on Cox.
Never saw this movie, but it's impressive how much it captures Brian Wilson around the Smile era.
If this was posted on any other day it would still be a great video.
"Mailboxes drip like lampposts in the twisted birth canal of the coliseum.
Rimjob fairy teapots mask the temper tantrums-oh say can you see 'em?"
-Dewey Cox
They just don't write like that anymore. :(
I'm smell impaired, if ya cared?
This whole time I was like "Yup, mhm, makes sense." And then the freak machete fight accident line hit me.....
This is the best April fools bit ive ever seen. I treated it as real because i actually do love the music of Dewey Cox. Walk Hard, everybody.
"You've gone nose blind"
This song truly cemented Dewey Cox as “double great” an ode to his brother finally realized.
I'm extremely happy that someone has made a video essay on of the most underrated and tossed aside rock performers when most of the time he is only looked upon for his big commercial hits such as walk hard. Thank you for bringing much needed attention to this tragic man.
I WANT AN ARMY OF DIDGERIDOOS, 60,000 DIDGERIDOOS!
Hum, I thought he said "50 thousand" didgeridoos'? Maybe I'm wrong? ua-cam.com/video/4KOKlOliQTE/v-deo.html
@@AllTheBestCO Wow... that was lame bruh.
More Aboriginal percussion!!
Never enough digradoos
You didn't even mention the influence that Dewey Cox had on Spinal Tap!
We'd be here all night bro... and that'd be alright by me...
The rutles: am I a joke to you?
I also notice that the more he dove into drugs, particularly phycadelics, the trauma of cutting his brother in half with a machete started to surface. Just another side of the movie that is so realistic.
Ha! Love this! Walk Hard is one of those movies that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
This may be my favorite UA-cam channel now
This is *GOD* tier shitposting.
This is not a good song.
It's like five songs on top of each other at the same time.
Not even a song.
It's some kind of concerto.
That goat sings more on this song than I do
How much of the world would've said the same thing if SMiLE had come out in January 1967? Half thinking it's brilliant, the other half thinking...wtf?
You guys are idiots. This song is very deep
I could almost hear your smile cracking through during this video.
Excellent breakdown of an often overlooked classic by a tragically underrated talent
Yes! Dewy Cox is one of the best mockumenteries I have seen. Love it.
Let's duet is a masterpiece.
It's more of a fake biopic than a mockumentary. It's shot as a narrative film, not really a documentary. Yeah, i'm a lot of fun :)
I agree, damn good flick.
It's not a mockumentary, it's a parody biopic.
What?
"I'm cut in half pretty bad Dewey." Thank you Polyphonic for making an awesome movie awesomeRRRR!
0:09 If all these albums did exist, I'd buy all of them.
When you want to April fool but low key love Brian Wilson
This is truly your greatest work yet! We, the fans, demand you focus your channel solely on the life of the magnanimous Dewey Cox.
Edit; Mandek Penha is acceptable too.
Yes!
Dude this was perfect, I loved it
I’ve been subscribed to your channel for a long time, and I’m only now seeing this.
You’re amazing. Thank you.
I was already a huge fan of this channel, but this... this officially makes it my favorite.
"He tragically cut his brother in half in a freak machete accident."
Now THAT is not something you hear every day.
Dewey Cox has influenced everyone from John Williams to Nirvana to Nora Jones to Metallica.
Thank you SO much for making this!!!
Awesome work my dude. Nice to see you don't take yourself too seriously XD
This is graduate level April punking. Work of art.
I LOVE that this exist! I also love that, despite being (intentionally) derivative and comedic, Black Sheep is actually a phenomenal song, from a structural standpoint.
I've been subscribed to you for so long and I am just now seeing this, which is also about one of my favorite movies
You're the greatest lol
"YOU HEAR THAT, I'M DEWEY'S 12 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND!!"
this is the kind of quality content i expect from this channel
My uncle was a massive Dewey Cox fan. So much so that he followed every move he made. When Dewey went through his pothead stage my uncle started smoking pot. When Dewey discovered Cocaine, so did my uncle. He followed Dewey across the country, going to most of his concerts. When Black Sheep was released he explained to me why it’s a masterpiece, because it’s the culmination of everything that Dewey has released. After that I became a massive fan as well. I wish I could have been at those shows with my uncle! But my uncle’s life was like Dewey’s “ a beautiful ride!
😂😂😂
Dew Cox isn't a perfect film, but in this area it's masterpiece 👌
Thank you for bringing the genius of Black Sheep to light. It is one of the most brillant gags ever. It feels as if, Ringo, Paul, or Brian Wilson were advising on this project.
One element that makes a comedy "gag" great is the level of depth a gag will go to achieve validity. With the song, Black Sheep the film went all in. I had know idea until I saw this video to what length. The Black Sheep gag is genius. It is brillant as is you and your YR channel. Your knowledge of music 🎶 and musical pop history provided a master class on every topic you cover. What else can I say, but you are a genius as well. The ability to spot the genius behind the Black Sheep gag and it's authenticity is truly remarkable. It would take the eyes and ears of master to excecute this. Bravo 👏 and tip of the 🎩
HAHAHA LOVE THIS CONCEPT AND LOVE THIS MOVIE!! KEEP MAKING GOOD CONTENT MAN!!
THIS is a good april fools joke
I love you for making this.
This is the best video you've ever done
This is a seriously underrated movie!
Dude I always watch your stuff and this had me dying. Walk hard is my favorite movie. You killed it.
Dude! You sold me, I now have a reason to see this movie. Thanks. Funny as hell.
simply brilliant, mate.
We need a video about the genius of Joni Mitchell
William Talbot You'll have to wait until next April Fools
morgan ghetti Explain
Sure, he was a great artist. but I'd like to point out just for the record that he never did pay for drugs....not once!
Great vid! As always I love what all that you do especially since I have a hard time finding good channels that delve into the history and meaning behind music, and because of this I was hoping you could cover a topic that has always interested me: GNR. Would it be possible to talk about their influence in the rock scene or the history of that band that led to such amazing songs as Michelle and Rocket Queen? I would really appreciate it and I just wanted to thank you again for the great vids
Incredible top notch work man
Do Spinal Tap next year
Quite possibly your best video!
Agreed.
Man, you had me for the first minute..,...great job!
this movie is amazing -youre amazing -this self parody, of a parody, is downright genius -well done
Now this was fantastic!!
Fantastic video!
+1 Shitposting. Well played sir, well played.
Your channel is really high quality. You should have more subs.
Joking aside, Van Dyke Parks did some seriously fantastic writing and orchestration on that song, perfectly capturing the sounds of that time in a hilarious way. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing you put a video out about Van Dyke Parks.
This is why I subscribed to this channel.
Should you wish to do so, perhaps look into The Rutles, it might take a year or so to really do them justice, but still.
Love the channel! A video on the band Boston would be amazing!
This is fantastic. Thank you.
This is so brilliant!!!
This is a beautiful video you just earn a new subscriber! Dewe cox is the most important musician in the history of the world.
Definitely one of the best spoofs of the past 30 years, maybe the best.
This is great. Thank you
This is proof that anything is believable if said with enough conviction... and good production.
goddamnit I love this channel
Hilarious! This is some serious history... Love your work!
I had to rewatch this movie after watching this. I think it still holds up. So thanks for that.
You're a genius, I knew I already liked you and that's why I subscribe to your channel and watch every video you put up I'm probably is obsessed with music and pop culture As You Are I'm hoping to do videos very similar to yours on my channel Freezknotable, but I just had to give you mad props for doing this now I realize you did it as a April Fool's joke but you should continue to do these and please do not wait until next April to do so. My suggestion is to do in-depth video essays like all of your video essays on groups like The Ruttles, Spinal Tap, The Archie's, Josie and the Pussycats, the Gorillaz Stillwater
Damn man, watching this on 02.04 I was wondering but almost believed it! You're great!
Loved it!
Kid you not this was already one of my favourite songs.
You got yourself a new subscriber because this was great! I agree with everyone else, not enough people know about this movie.
Yes! YES!! That is literally my favorite song from, his discography and you give a fucking analysis on it.
Brilliant video! It's a shame I can only like it once. Thank you for redirecting attention to Dewey's work. The world would be a better place, if more people were thinking about Cox.
This is one of the smartest and funniest videos on UA-cam.
As much as i hate April fools day on UA-cam, i absolutely love Walk Hard.
Thank you, this was very enjoyable.
