This is so beautiful, I have been listening to Blind Willie Johnson for a while now and my friends don't get it even my wife. I'd just like to tell y'all this is so amazing and I don't feel weird anymore I'm not alone. Seeing this has absolutely warmed my heart and made my day.
@@Cincinnatus1869 True but Johnson was the first to record it in 1928. This is really a tribute to Johnson’s slide playing, also among the first recorded.
You're not weird or alone. I'm 52 and have been listening to BWJ for 25 years, when I discovered he had been covered by Led Zep and Dylan among others. He was a master of the slide guitar and influenced almost everybody after him, from Ry Cooder to Alvin Youngblood Hart, Corey Harris or Bonnie Raitt. I just don't get it when people say this is weird. It's so powerful and TRUE, man! Great cover btw. Regards from Belgium.
I love these guys, love the feeling they put out through the music (love), and I love that they keep bringing the roots of their music forward, keeping old tunes like this and John the Revelator alive and fresh.
Just been listening to God Don't Never Change this week, and this is one of my favorite songs on the Album. Pretty basic guitar, singing, backup with handclaps. Pretty awesome!!
They should be quiet for such a very sacred Blind Willie Johnson song. A very awesome and respectfull version. A call to repentance which this very dark land needs.
@@jasonmarques1480 people use all sorts of things to play slide. A socket, a glass bottle, a pocket knife, etc. You just have to get in an open tuning and get a feel for what you're doing

The song predates Willie Johnson . It's a gospel hymn

Check out the version Glen Kaiser and Darrell Mansfield did in the early 90's of one of these awesome tunes by Blind Willie Johnson

now they should really do this with Hot Tuna since they are touring together. Hot Tuna's version is very different but kicks some serious ass

What's the metal thing on his finger?
Not a guitar player are ya?
@@Cincinnatus1869 not really. I know a little bit but not enough.
That metal "thing" looks like a glass pill bottle to me

Is Derek in open E?
Which tunning is this man using?
+Pedro Carvalho Open D
+minibowie44 open E think the original is open D
He almost always plays in open E
This is Fred McDowell .. no Blind Willie Johnson
