      Glad this helped! We did remove our swivel seat after 1 year due to how our layout changed.
      but a note to consider, it is better to get a swivel seat plate with an open plate, rather than the closed plate we have, as we found it annoying not having full access to the seat under storage.
      But if you are using the space for a heater or bulk storage and don't need to access it that much then it might be okay 👌👍

      Not all vans do, and not sure how easy it'd be to get a double-seat base in, but people replace the doubles with singles all the time so if you really wanted, I'm sure it's possible!🙂

    Hello, I see in other videos TrimmJimm base plate have the place for the seatbelt bolt on the base plate. Makes it easier to use. Good work and video. Thanx

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  4 роки тому

      Yes, the old TrimJim base plate has a seat belt specific hole, but that plate is also heavier. We spoke to Jim about the design change and he told us to just put in old seat belt hole and stretch over it.. and it works fine. 🙂 Both designs have pluses, but weight is a very important factor as it adds up so quickly.

    Just a small tip regarding the drilled bolt to accept the seat belt cable. Threaded tubing used for pendant light fittings might be an easier option, it's called 'hollow all thread' and you can also get plastic bushes that press into the ends to protect the cables and then simply use steel/nylon nuts. ...might help someone. ps. nice video

    Hey guys, great video! This is the plate I've been looking at, does it raise the seat height significantly? If so, how does it affect ride comfort as a passenger (especially with a shelf above you!)? Cheers!

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 роки тому

      It does raise it enough for you to notice, but after a few trips, you get used to it. I (Polly) am usually the passenger and before, I could touch the floor with my feet. With the plate, I can't now (only just) but I've gotten used to it. The shelf is no obstacle at all, never banged our heads on it. The space still feels super open, even with the shelf above, more than any car. Hope this helps 🙂
      Our only regret is not getting a swivel plate with an open-top, as to access under the seats we have to undo the bolts and swivel the seat.

  • @megsmoves3031

    With your specific base you went with it looks like you wont be able to access the under seat storage area, was the any reason you went for this type over one where there is access? Love you guys' videos!

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 роки тому +1

      The base we got is closed, so, theoretically, you can put a padlock on it and use it as a safe. At this moment in time, we would honestly recommend getting one with access as the base is not that easy to open up for you to use it as a safe (on a daily bases). And, moreover, the closed design can neutralise the use of that space completely, even for fitting tanks and heaters as maintenance becomes a hassel.
      Sooo, we wish we had the open access version ☺️

    Could this base be used to swivel the rear 2 seats of a crafter 90 degs so the bench is turned parallel with the side of the van, rather than perpendicular? I’m looking for a way of having forward facing seats for journeys but swivel to a ‘sofa’ when static.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 роки тому

      It depends on the rear seat box, if it is the same dimensions as the twin front seats then the plate should fit. Swiveling it only 90 degrees will mean you'll need extra support on each side as there's no easy way to bolt it when swivelled 90 degrees.

  • @clintroberts1
    @clintroberts1 4 роки тому +1

    Definitely cool but it would be better if it turned the other direction as you could leave the double seat against the side wall. I guess if in the United States if it swivels that way you do so. Do they make for the US? Or does it work with the Isa the same?

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  4 роки тому

      You can swivel the seat in either direction, but it is unstable without the securing bolts, so swiveling it 90 degrees won't make a stable seat, at least with this base. I've not actually seen a double swivel base that is secure at 90 degrees, only singles. This base company is UK based, for European vehicles but as long as the US Dodge/Mercedes sprinters have the same seat box shape, you might be able to re-purpose them for it, but don't quote us on that it might be best to double-check.

    ALWAYS take of the battery when working on airbags. not just, dont turn the ignition... ALWAYS take off the battery. you can actually find a plug/unplug cable under neath the steering wheel so you don't need to take the interior appart to reacht the battery. other than that, it would be more interesting if the company that provided the swivle also gives a special bracket to install the seatbelt, it would be more correct if the seatbelt just stays next to the doorstep.
    just my 2 cents. thanks for the video and good luck with all the rest

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  3 роки тому +1

      Good question, looking on their site it doesn't specify the year of the models, so I can't be sure.
      Though my first instict is that they have probably changed the bolt locations... just a guess.
      The best thing to do is check with Jim himself - you can contact him from his TrimJim website.
      That's the swivel seat we got - www.vwinterior.co.uk/M1-vw-crafter-van-mercedes-sprinter-van-double-swivel-safe-base.html
      rjcampersolutions.co.uk/shop
      This is the other company that sells swivel plates and they give a bit more info - they specify 2006-2017 - so based on that I would assume they are different. Also, this company has a Single swivel for a Crafter 2017+, so you could contact then as well and ask if they have plans to make a double.

      Not really, it spins freely but you have to manouver past the handbreak and the seatbelt column. As you spin, the 2 steel plates rub so you have to put some force into it

    Do you lose access to the storage space underneath with these plates?

    • @FreedomStrider

      No, it becomes a bit harder to access, but you can swivel the top plate and reveal the full storage space. But, it would limit the opening, so it may decrease the size of thing that can enter. 👍

    Just wondering if it’s possible to turn the double passenger seat and the driver so they are facing each other and if possible to put a table in between ? Just a thought.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  4 роки тому

      If you attach a swivel plate to the drivers seat, it is possible although with this double swivel plate, there are no securing bolts for a 90 degree turn, so wouldn't be stable. A different design of swivel base might be able to do it, not a bad idea to look into it.

    Hi guys..I was wondering if you could help me before I go ahead and buy one?! How much space is needed between the door pillar where seat belt is located and the centre of the van in order to turn the seat.?? I have a shower cubicle in this corner..Will the seat go out the passenger door to turn,,in order for me to have enough room to turn the seat??

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  4 роки тому

      Hey Wade, okay so we went to measure it this morning.
      1. Distances between stuff.
      a. Seat belt pillar to handbrake = 95cm
      b. You can pull the seat directly backwards (without spinning) to open the storage compartment = 25cm (from the passenger base box). So it extends 25cm in your living space.
      c. As it spins, there are slightly different rotation trajectories you can take. So, mid spin, around the moment the corner needs to pass the seat belt pillar, the other corner, swings out into your living space. The minimum it will cut into your living space is about 35cm and the max is about 45cm (depending on what rotation you pick)
      - the corner that swings out, is about 48cm from the seat belt pillar (so about half way across the passenger base box)
      2. The seat doesn't go out the door and you can swivel it with the door closed, although it is sometimes easier to stand outside and turn for better leverage.
      Also, the plate does scratch either the seat belt pillar plastic or the hand brake, so we cut a slit in the plastic to let it spin freely and protect the hand break. :D
