At long last of all the heartbreaks, let downs, and disappointments, Pitt football has brought pride back to the City of Pittsburgh. ACC Champs, regardless of what happens in whatever bowl Pitt goes to, this team should be proud of what they accomplished this year. Game ball for me goes to the Pitt defense and Randy Bates. They could not stop Wake's offense in the first quarter, but they adjusted shut their offense down the rest of the game. That defense played outstanding after struggling in the first quarter.
It is so awesome for once to say we are Pitt football fans, if only this team pulled it off vs Western Michigan (embarrassing) and that safety was called vs Miami we'd be in the playoff
@@rhshady1 Yeah you look back now and those two losses sting, but 11-2 record and an ACC Championship is pretty good considering all Pitt has gone through over the last few years. No question, the best season Pitt has had in quite a few years. We've all been waiting for this.
Ironically enough today is the 12 year anniversary of that gut wrenching 45-44 loss to Cincinnati that cost Pitt the Big East Title and BCS Bowl Berth in 2009, and this win last night exorcised all those past demons of let down and disappointment. It's nice to just soak it all in. Pitt fans have waited for this moment for too long.
When I was at Pitt from 1977 through 1981, 10 and 11 game winning seasons were something normal. We were spoiled. Those southeastern teams were a joke to us. It was so cool walking up a street on campus and seeing this big huge wall of yellow right in the middle of all these buildings and it was Pitt stadium what a sight.Great being at the games.
There were 3 big games then that I remember: Notre Dame, WVU and the game around Thanksgiving vs Penn State. They rarely played teams from the South unless it was a bowl game. I remember the 1975 game at Pitt Stadium vs Notre Dame when TD ran for 200+ yards. In those days Jackie Sherill, when he was Johnny Majors’ assistant, used to take game film to a room somewhere up in the Cathedral and anybody could watch it with him. That was on a Monday around noon, following a game. He would comment on the game. Any student could watch it and ask questions. It was pretty cool and it would last for about 45 minutes to an hour. One semester I took a filler class, public speaking at the old YMHA building. The grad student teacher was flabbergasted when Tony Dorsett walked in the first day. Then the TA said to the class, “Does everyone here know Tony Dorsett?” Who? Never heard of him…

One of the most exciting games I've ever seen. Gotta put it right up there with Boston College Miami, and Boise State Oklahoma. And Michigan beating Alabama.
While the fake slide was pretty cool, it's not really fair for the defensive player. As soon as they see the QB start the motion to slide, they will ease off because they don't want to hit him on his way down to the ground which will result in a penalty.
The amount of “injuries” y’all had though. It was really funny to see them go down, the refs would stop the clock, then they’d get up and walk away like nothing happened. No class.
I'll tell you what: I didn't appreciate the WF QB's little fake slide. Almost felt like karma that he couldn't do much by way of evasion after that. Frankly, a fake slide should be unsportsmanlike conduct, because the defenders ease off for fear of a penalty or injuring the QB. To take off again is BS.
@@SGobuck It is a rule and was a failure on the officials to not call the play dead. Sliding offers a way, especially a QB, to make a play dead by showing intent they don't want to advance so they don't suffer any unnecessary hits especially to the head and deters the defense from hitting them in the process. Its going to get remembered now he wants to fake and take advantage of the rule, but he won't like it when he does slide next time, a defender nose dives right into his skull.
What was up with WF qb trying to ride the running back all the way to the LOS in those rpo's before pulling? Got lucky to get the first one off, then got sacked 3 times while trying it afterwards 😅. Bad tendency of his or bad coaching?
I agree, when he begins the motion it means he is automatically giving himself up on the play. The defense knows the motion when it is beginning. If the defensive players tackle him while he is beginning the sliding motion, they're going to get a 15 yard penalty or worse. This is why they let up when they were in position to tackle him. I think that a no call sets a bad precedent and I'm curious if other players will try it to see if the refs will call it differently.
Feel bad for the kid, he had an amazing first half but it really went off the rails after his second int. Credit to PITT D for realizing the QB was fragile and dialing up the pressure.
Love that fake by Kenny but dunno how the heck they think a defender can pull up if QBs start doin this on the regular. It’s ruff wen yur goin full tilt.
Omg every QB gonna be out here fake sliding and there’s gonna be so many penalties now for hitting a sliding player cuz defense gonna be on edge about this kinda thing 🙄😂😂
And this is why QBs shouldn't be protected. Touchdown was given up because defensive player forced to pull up due to slide. Either let defenders kill em, or force QB to not fake slide.
You shouldn’t be allowed to fake a slide as a quarter back if any hit on them while sliding is hitting a defenseless player. He gets free yards for forcing the defense to stop playing? (edit) For those commenting: The play in this game is totally legit and I’m not arguing that. I’m arguing that it is not ethical. A QB that slides and is tackled after initiating the slide is considered to be defenseless and then the defensive player will be ejected, but the QB now has an ability to bait this call by “fake” sliding. It’s just a move that allows more offensive yards because QBs have extra safety measures.
It was a brilliant move. Still, if the he defenseman wasn't napping, he could have at least tried to tackle him. As for whether it should be allowed, isn't it similar to someone 'faking' as if they're casually coasting out of bounds, then cutting back and fooling the defender? Besides, no one is going to be penalized for tacking the quarterback.
It’s commit to the tackle and get 15 yard penalty and a possible ejection or stay up and face the risk of the qb fake sliding and then getting a large sum of extra yards . It’s a lose lose situation for the defender. It’s taking advantage of the extra protection already given to qbs when compared to other ball carriers. And in current football you can definitely get penalized for tackling the qb. It’s just at the referees discretion
@@spsawyer22 No, if you continue to play against a real spike there's no penalty. If you continue to play against a real slide there is.
